Firefox deals with many such situations nicely nowadays. When you
click the Back button, it displays a dialog box:
% This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you
have entered may not be saved.

Perhaps Lynx could offer a similar prompt.
Data you have entered may be lost. L)eave page, or S)tay on page?
