Package: libcw
Version: N/A; reported 2002-03-19
Severity: important

I usually type between 60 and 80 words per minute. As I use cooledit to edit my
LaTeX documents, I use it quite often. Sometimes, when I press a key in the
main text edit widget in cooledit, it prints the previously-entered character
(or, sometimes, the character before that) in place of the character which I
pressed. This occurs consistently, although not at every keypress. Also, the
problem happens most notably during inter-word spaces.

For example, the following is a sample of a quote which I typed in cooledit, and
the version on the following line(s) is what I actually typed:

``I try to learanas much as I canabecause I know nnthini cocpared totwwat I
need totknow.''

``I try to learn as much as I can because I know nothing compared to what I
need to know.''

As you can see, this is a very annoying problem, and manually fixing it after it
occurs can become very time-consuming (especially when a (^H + char) combination
inputs two ^H's).

In addition to the incorrect build-dependencies reported in #167067:

The versions of config.guess and config.sub in this source package are too old
to correctly support the Debian mips and mipsel architectures. A version is
needed from this year, which is available in the autotools-dev packages that
are in current woody, sarge, and sid.

DOC-Linux-zh-text

2002-11-02 Thread Siyan Li
Hi,
  I am currently interested in volunteering my time to help on
DOC-Linux-zh-text package. I am a Computer Science student at
University of Waterloo and I am bi-lingual(Chinese, English). I have been
doing translating jobs(both English->Chinese and Chinese->English) as a
part-time job and I am very confident with it and I have been using
Linux/Solaris/BSDs for a few years now and I guess that I will be able
help.

Please let me know if my offer will be accepted.

Bug#167511: New Policy for "cgi-bin" and "cgi-lib"

2002-11-02 Thread Brian White
Package: boa
Version: 0.94.8.3-1
Severity: important

There is new official Debian policy regarding the use of "cgi-bin" in web
servers. The basic issue is that many webmasters expect to have this
directory available for their own use and not have it taken over by the
system to be used by the various Debian packages. This new policy should be
in complete effect by the next release of Debian.

I've started the change by reporting bugs against the various web servers
and then later, after they've had a chance to address it, I'll report bugs
against those packages that still use the old location.

To address this, we are creating a new ScriptAlias "cgi-lib" that points to
/usr/lib/cgi-bin. All Debian packages should eventually use that new
"/cgi-lib/" path in their URLs instead of the older "/cgi-bin/". This
mechanism does allow for an easy upgrade path.

When updating a web server, the new "cgi-lib" needs to be added, but any
existing definition of "cgi-bin" should be left untouched. (New installs
should set "cgi-bin" to point to "/cgi-bin" for easy use by
webmasters.) Systems with upgraded web-servers will continue to work with
the older packages (since both "cgi-bin" and "cgi-lib" point to the same
place), thus providing a relatively transparent conversion.

For full background information, you can read bug #32263 at:

   http://bugs.debian.org/32263

The policy change is as follows:

===
--- policy.sgml.origFri Nov  3 00:02:17 2000
+++ policy.sgml Fri Nov  3 00:18:45 2000
@@ -2949,9 +2949,20 @@

and can be referred to as

- http://localhost/cgi-bin/;
-
+ http://localhost/cgi-lib/;
+

+ The purpose of using cgi-lib instead of
+ cgi-bin is that most webmasters are used to having
+ cgi-bin available for their own local use, much like
+ /usr/local.  Having packages use cgi-lib
+ means that no changes need to be made by the webmaster to both
+ keep what they are used to and still have access to Debian
+ packages.
+
+ Web servers should include /cgi-lib/ as a standard
+ ScriptAlias of /usr/lib/cgi-bin/.
