This is Cricket. It is a configuration, polling, and data-display engine
wrapped around the RRD tool by Tobias Oetiker. There are three user-visible
pieces to Cricket: the collector, the grapher, and the config tree. The
collector runs from cron and fetches data from a number of devices
according to the info it finds in the config tree. The grapher is a CGI
application that allows users to traverse the config tree from a web
browser and see the data that the collector recorded.

django-authority is a powerful layer between Django's basic
 permission system (provided through django.contrib.auth)
 and your application.
 .
It gives you the ability to add permissions like Django's
generic permissions to any kind of model without having to add
them to the model's Meta class, and provides a very simple way
to create per-object (or row-level) permissions.

I can confirm that 3.4.1 does fix the build

Mirror space should not be a worry anymore (that was different in the 1990s),
I remember that something needed fixing when we had the first file > 2 GB
(some .orig.gz) in our archive a few years ago.

Regarding buildd time, you might never have heard about the acl2
package - except if you are looking at buildd.debian.org a lot since
this is a package that takes literally a week to build on some buildds.

Developer time is usually the most scarce resource in Debian.

I would be worried if a plugin does weird things by default if installed.

FFmpeg already pulls in jack libraries, Debian is not a distribution
that tries hard to reduce the number of unused libraries on a system.

Bug#532257: rpm: Please switch to libneon27-gnutls

2009-06-07 Thread Adrian Bunk
Package: rpm
Version: 4.4.2.3-3
Severity: wishlist

rpm uses libneon27, which is linked with OpenSSL.

Other applications mistakenly linked with libneon27 instead of
libneon27-gnutls are a constant source of GPL violations.

Getting libneon27 phased out in the long term would therefore be
a good thing, and having rpm moved would be one step of decreasing
it's usage.

Hi Steve,

it was nice if you wouldn't blindly tag bugs sid without doing some
minimal checking.

If this bug exists in sid, it obviously also exists in sarge.

If not, please explain why you disagree.

I do agree with Thomas:
- it's currently perfectly legal for a package to have an interactive
  install
- it's also allowed to build depend on a package with an interactive
  install

I do understand the problems for autobuilders and it should ideally be
fixed but IMHO it's not a RC bug in zope-zpatterns.

Hi,

the bugs #807010 (xl2tpd freezes all system) and #822801
(xl2tpd makes kernel soft lockup) look like bugs in the
kernel to me.

xl2tpd might also be buggy, but the worst part of these bugs is what
happens in the kernel.

The relevant part of the xl2tpd 1.3.6+dfsg-4 changelog is:
  * rules: Enable USE_KERNEL, like upstream now does (Closes: #542521)

what is the status of this work?

Currently Guacamole is not in testing, and therefore on course for not
being included in stretch.

If 0.9.9 is not ready for upload soon, can you make at least the minimum
changes for not having Guacamole dropped completely from stretch?

These would be:
- the trivial fix for #827300 (remove the -Werror from
  src/protocols/ssh/Makefile.am)
- a fix for #832846 (I have no clue about that one, but Emmanuel or Mike
  might be able to help)
- looking at the upstream changelog, a 0.8.3 -> 0.8.4 update seems to be
  a low hanging fruit
- when doing the uploads, please also change the maintainer field
  of the packages

The perfect solution would be 0.9.9 in stretch, but having 0.8.4 in
stretch would at least be better than not having Guacamole in stretch.

The Perl situation is different.

In Perl this is part of a larger clause in the Artistic licence.

The clause in the Artistic licence explicitely allows charging money for
a software distribution that includes perl, and that makes it DFSG-free.

This is a borderline case, and likely the DFSG are worded this way to
allow code under the Artistic licence in main.

unicon does not allow usage for commercial purpose, which is a clear
violation of DFSG clause 6.

Using Debian in your business, or selling a computer with Debian
installed, are pretty basic usecases that are not possible with
such licencing.

thanks for your report, this should actually be fixed in xml-core.

The dependency on xml-core is generated automatically by
dh_installxmlcatalogs.

Fixing it will include two parts:
1. fixed xml-core in unstable
2. rebuilding all affected packages with the fixed xml-core

Looking at the tracker page for premail [1] you seem to be right
regarding where the problem is:

premail already got removed from testing 4 times this year when
a mail-reader was removed, and always re-entered testing the

Bug#842098: Please revert the change to build static libraries with -fPIC

2016-10-25 Thread Adrian Bunk
Source: unicon
Version: 3.0.4-15
Severity: important

PIE by default in gcc was enabled in unstable a week ago.

There has recently been some confusion regarding the changes required
for using PIE by default.

Static libraries do not have to be compiled with -fPIC for this change,
-fPIE is sufficient and now the default when no flags are given.
Any upload (including binNMU) would have been enough to fix this.

Compiling static libraries with -fPIC is usually wrong (policy section 10.2).

Please revert the change to build static libraries with -fPIC.

Thanks for your report, this does actually look like a recent regression

The error message in the log is:

sendmail is orphaned, so there is no maintainer.

Andreas (Cc'ed) did some basic maintainance on sendmail recently,
but I doubt he would opposed to the LTS team taking care of this

commit 7b5b74efcca00f15c2aec1dc7175bfe34b6ec643
Author: Mike Frysinger
Date: Thu Nov 10 19:08:39 2016 -0500

Revert "include/uapi/linux/atm_zatm.h: include linux/time.h"

This reverts commit cf00713a655d ("include/uapi/linux/atm_zatm.h: include
linux/time.h").

This attempted to fix userspace breakage that no longer existed when
the patch was merged. Almost one year earlier, commit 70ba07b675b5
("atm: remove 'struct zatm_t_hist'") deleted the struct in question.

After this patch was merged, we now have to deal with people being
unable to include this header in conjunction with standard C library
headers like stdlib.h (which linux-atm does). Example breakage:
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../.. -I./../q2931
-I./../saal \
-I. -DCPPFLAGS_TEST -I../../src/include -O2 -march=native -pipe

Bug#845689: kcollectd must build-depend on collectd

collectd is currently not available on mips64el due to

collectd -> libvirt -> qemu

Work is ongoing on making qemu available on mips64el,
but for getting kcollectd back into testing in time

Where did I agree to that?

Reality in Debian is that a large amount of packages is not well
maintained, polygraph is actually orphaned.

> Do you expect this bug
> to be closed once it switches to libsl1.0-dev?

The thing I do care about is not the patch tag, the thing I do care
about is that we are not losing any packages in stretch due to the
whole OpenSSL situation.

A patch tag makes it visible that there is a solution for the RC issue
in stretch.

Who is going to do the uploads for the ~ 100 not well maintained
packages that need to be switched to 1.0.2?

Will you do these?
It should be your job for making dual 1.0.2/1.1 work.

Or will you at least sponsor me, if I send you a batch of 100 NMUs and
QA uploads switching packages to 1.0.2?

I definitely did not agree to no longer tagging the RC bugs.

Tagging makes it visible that there is a workaround for the RC issue.

The problem here is the schedule.

We are now 3 months after the release of 1.1.0, and the same point for
buster will be 2 years after the release of 1.1.0

For buster 1.1.0 support will for many packages just be present
automatically from upstream.

I did check every single binary package that did depend on libssl1.0.2
in unstable before libssl-dev was changed to 1.1.0, and that does not
depend on libssl1.0.2 or libssl1.1 now (and I'll run this regularly
in the future until the whole OpenSSL situation is sorted out).

polygraph was the only one I found so far (in addition to the ones Hilko
already reported) where the dependency was silently and unintentionally
dropped.

Many of the build-fixes for 1.1.0 you previously provided were AFAIK
only build-tested and won't get any runtime testing until binNMUs
will happen.

Please make a QA upload with your patch soon, having it in unstable is
the only realistic chance of getting bug reports in case polygraph does
for some reason not work properly with 1.1.0

I have no experience in OpenSSL programming, and I have no desire to
learn about it any time soon.

This is the actual root of the conflict between you and me.

There are ~ 100 packages in unstable that need a fix/workaround for
the OpenSSL RC bug, and this must be uploaded during the next 3 weeks
or the package will not be in stretch.

I am really not happy about the prospect that I might end up sending
100 separate "RFS: [NMU, RC]" in a few days for getting this done.

I know that you are mostly interested in 1.1.0, but with 1.1.0 as
default the part of the archive that is not ready for 1.1.0 must
be manually switched to use 1.0.2

I haven't been able to reproduce this, but I assume passing
--no-parallel to dh should be enough to workaround it.

A new HTTPS communications layer, replaces Pyro-3 Object RPC for all

Thanks for your report.

I can reproduce it, and there are two workarounds I found:
1. downgrade libx86-1 to 1.1+ds1-10 from stable, OR
2. recompile libx86-1 with -O1

This sounds like a bug in libx86-1 that got exposed by better
optimization in recent gcc.

That's mostly unrelated, and the error message is misleading.

What is needed to fix these test results is to have the library compiled
with PIE, and the rebuild triggered by my 0.25-2 QA upload will do the
job (even a binNMU would have been sufficient).

After that the library is again usable for linking into binaries.

This bug here is about compiling the static library with -fPIC for
making it suitable for inclusion in shared libraries.

Bug#862485: fwsnort mustn't set iptables rules when purged

2017-05-13 Thread Adrian Bunk
Package: fwsnort
Version: 1.6.5-3
Severity: critical
Tags: security

The #861999 fix adds the following on purging:
  grep -v FWSNORT /var/lib/fwsnort/fwsnort.save | iptables-restore

Imagine the following:
1. today I install fwsnort and try it
2. later today I uninstall it
3. 2 years later I purge all long-removed packages

This would in 2 years set the iptables rules to what they
were today before I shortly played with fwsnort.

A case could be made for "fwsnort --ipt-flush" in prerm.

Or considering that activating any fwsnort rules is not done
automatically and that the package should not interfere with
what the the admin has done.

When you remove (not purge) a package containing a webserver, do you
expect that the webserver is stopped or do you expect that the webserver
is still running after removing the package?

"Remove an installed package. This removes everything except conffiles"
This the dpkg (and similar in apt) description of what remove does.

A package that is removed but not purged is in the Config-Files states.
This means the old configuration is still present if the package gets
installed again.

Purging is supposed to remove the (at that point already unused)
configuration files of the package.

Purging is not supposed to do any reconfiguration of the system.

being able to push to collab-maint is not a requirement for submitting
a sponsorship-request.

luakit would only get removed from testing.

What actually matters is whether or not luakit is in testing in
autumn 2018 when the buster freeze begins - if it isn't in testing
at that point it won't be in buster.

If luakit is not in testing now for a month or a year,
any upload with the latest upstream code moving it to
WebKit 2 and GTK+ 3 will be sufficient for testing re-entry.
