Bug#239944: KDE applications uses lynx as browser instead konqueror
Package: konqueror Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: grave Tags: sid Justification: renders package unusable After updating to 3.2, some KDE applications, like knewsticker and kmail, that give the ability to open an address in a browser, open an xterm with lynx instead a konqueror window. However, my understanding of the BTS is that it exists because the Debian developers probably have better karma with the upstream developers and know how to communicate effectively with them. This is wrong, "ls -l /home/user/dir" works fine, so entering that directory as a directory for file attachments should also work. -- System Information Debian Release: 3.0 Kernel Version: Linux lyta 2.4.18 #1 Sat Jul 6 15:35:52 EDT 2002 i686 unknown Versions of the packages kmail depends on: ii kdelibs3 2.2.2-13 KDE core libraries (runtime files) ii libc6 2.2.5-7GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone ii libfam02.6.6.1-4 client library to control the FAM daemon ii libjpeg62 6b-6 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG runtime li ii libkdenetwork1 2.2.2-14 Common libraries needed for KDE network appl ii libmimelib12.2.2-14 mime libraries needed for some KDE applicati ii libpng21.0.12-3 PNG library - runtime ii libqt2 2.3.1-22 Qt GUI Library (runtime version). ii libstdc++2.10- 2.95.4-9 The GNU stdc++ library ii procmail 3.22-4 Versatile e-mail processor. ii xlibs 4.1.0-17 X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g 1.1.4-1compression library - runtime --- Received: (at 152491-done) by bugs.debian.org; 24 Mar 2004 22:26:00 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Mar 24 14:26:00 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 66-194-152-191.gen.twtelecom.net (pico.surpasshosting.com) [66.194.152.191] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B6Goy-0007L7-00; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 14:26:00 -0800 Received: from conr-adsl-cheney.txucom.net ([207.70.165.48] helo=calc) by pico.surpasshosting.com with esmtp (TLSv1:RC4-SHA:128) (Exim 4.24) id 1B6Gp3-0005FH-79 for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 17:26:05 -0500 Received: from ccheney by calc with local (Exim 4.30) id 1B6Gog-Zn-7k for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 16:25:42 -0600 Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2004 16:25:42 -0600 From: Chris Cheney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: kmail: problem with mode 711 directories owned by other users Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="i7KxW38SoMauyveo" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.5.1+cvs20040105i X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - pico.surpasshosting.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - bugs.debian.org X-AntiAbuse: Originator/Caller UID/GID - [47 12] / [47 12] X-AntiAbuse: Sender Address Domain - cheney.cx Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-2.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00 autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 X-Spam-Level: --i7KxW38SoMauyveo Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Co

The cycle time of the flashes was extremely rapid, probably at least 10/second. I presume this was caused by the fact that I have an icon for mozilla on launch panel at the botoom of the screen, and my mouse was over this icon. The icon itself is red; it's a non-KDE application. Aside from being a cosmetic annoyance, it might conceivably cause some screen burn-in if it kept up long enough. -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux wheat 2.4.19 #1 Mon Sep 2 14:25:19 PDT 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US Versions of packages kscreensaver depends on: ii kdelibs3 4:2.2.2-13.woody.2 KDE core libraries (runtime files) ii libc6 2.2.5-11.1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0 2.6.8-3client library to control the FAM ii libjpeg62 6b-6 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpng2 1.0.12-4 PNG library - runtime ii libqt23:2.3.1-22 Qt GUI Library (runtime version). ii libstdc++2.10-glibc2. 1:2.95.4-11The GNU stdc++ library ii xlibmesa3 [libgl1]4.1.0-17 XFree86 version of Mesa 3D graphic ii xlibs 4.1.0-17 X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g1:1.1.4-3 compression library - runtime --- Received: (at 160382-done) by bugs.debian.org; 24 Mar 2004 22:13:26 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Mar 24 14:13:26 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 66-194-152-191.gen.twtelecom.net (pico.surpasshosting.com) [66.194.152.191] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B6Gco-0006Kw-00; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 14:13:26 -0800 Received: from conr-adsl-cheney.txucom.net ([207.70.165.48] helo=calc) by pico.surpasshosting.com with esmtp (TLSv1:RC4-SHA:128) (Exim 4.24) id 1B6Gcs-0004TI-W6 for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 17:13:31 -0500 Received: from ccheney by calc with local (Exim 4.30) id 1B6GcW-KG-1z for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 16:13:08 -0600 Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2004 16:13:08 -0600 From: Chris Cheney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: kscreensaver: flashing icon shows through screen saver Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="Cqq5NadOW2RfLMJ/" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.5.1+cvs20040105i X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - pico.surpasshosting.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - bugs.debian.org X-AntiAbuse: Originator/Caller UID/GID - [47 12] / [47 12] X-AntiAbuse: Sender Address Domain - cheney.cx Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debi

It is placed under /usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-mswinurl.desktop but has a MimeType of text/x-mswinurl. Well, it's arguable which one is correct, but I'd set it together with html under text, though you need a specific application to understand it, and there can be any kind of data at the end. I've written a small script that parses such a file and calls mozilla on the URL, so I'd see it more under text, but I don't really care. 2. The encoding is written "ncoding=UTF-8" instead of "Encoding=UTF-8" (that's my patch ;-). I discovered the problem in .xsession-errors: kio (KService*): WARNING: The service/mime type config file text/x-mswinurl.desktop does not contain a ServiceType=... or MimeType=... entry Cheers, Eric -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux nsmobelx 2.4.24-1deb2 #1 Fri Jan 23 15:09:17 CET 2004 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C -- no debconf information --- Received: (at 233847-done) by bugs.debian.org; 24 Mar 2004 16:28:39 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Mar 24 08:28:39 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 66-194-152-191.gen.twtelecom.net (pico.surpasshosting.com) [66.194.152.191] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B6BF9-0002UK-00; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 08:28:39 -0800 Received: from [207.70.165.48] (helo=calc) by pico.surpasshosting.com with esmtp (TLSv1:RC4-SHA:128) (Exim 4.24) id 1B636j-0008PT-NF for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 02:47:26 -0500 Received: from ccheney by calc with local (Exim 4.30) id 1B636J-0003sU-Np for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wed, 24 Mar 2004 01:46:59 -0600 Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2004 01:46:59 -0600 From: Chris Cheney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: kdelibs-data: File x-mswinurl.desktop location and mimetype mismatch, Encoding incorrect. Well, this means Gnome in sarge will not be able to use the menu generated by those menu-methods and so they must only be run when KDE is installed, so they belong to the KDE packages. After the testing I renamed the (newly created) .kde directory and wanted to move my old .kde back as .kde. At this time, konqueror (the only KDE app I regularly use) did not run (I explicitly quit it and waited for a moment). Nevertheless, the .kde-directory was always silently recreated. Finally I killed dcop and then I was able to rename my old .kde directory back. It is very annoying if, after an application has been quit, its config directory is still silently managed (recreated). It looks to me like the windows "If the user is so stupid to delete this important file, I put it back myself" "feature". This is ok, if the application in question (here: konqueror) is restarted, but if I quit it I want to be able to do system maintenance without fighting with a program about it! And now, I was using plain window maker, so no other KDE application where started (at least to my knowledge, I started only konqueror from the menu entry). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: alpha Kernel: Linux sixtyfor 2.4.21-pre1 #1 Don Okt 2 18:27:25 CEST 2003 alpha Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Versions of packages kdelibs-bin depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.1.4-3 KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.8-1The Gnome 2 canvas widget - ru= ntim ii libarts1 1.1.4-3aRts Sound system ii libasound20.9.8-2Advanced Linux Sound Architect= ure=20 ii libaudio2 1.6b-1 The Network Audio System (NAS)= . Any idea why it failed the first time? It compiled fine on every other arch but hppa, it failed on hppa the first time due to that odd bash bug I told you about. Also -v and -a should not affect it in a considerable way, it just tells it to enable "verbose" and "arch" checking in debhelper. So for it to pass fine the second time it is run seems to indicate that the buildd itself is at fault. Chris signature.asc Description: Digital signature
