Hi. It looks like arts 1.3 is on the verge of moving into sarge,
whereas kde 3.3 will probably never make it.

This is unfortunate since arts 1.3 is part of kde 3.3, and I expect the
combination (arts 1.3 + kde 3.2) has not really been tested, either by
debian or kde upstream.

It thus seems prudent to keep arts out of sarge until we can verify
whether this combination actually works and is stable.

Ben.

Since there's been confirmation from at least one developer that arts
1.3 does work with kde 3.2, and no RC bug reports against the package
while it's been in unstable, I'm closing this bug now to allow the
updated arts into testing.

According to the comments on the bug it was only a problem starting
with kdelibs 3.3.0, which hasn't entered sarge. So I don't think it
will be a problem in sarge either, although I don't have the time to
set up a sarge pbuilder chroot to test it.

Yes, in my opinion too. Is strange, because Kate, which is more or less the
same than Kwrite (they are in the same package), shows the statusbar by
default.

The solution is to break the .desktop files out of

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.2.2-2
Severity: normal

This is the problem scenario:
- fetchmail running a fetching mail from several accounts
- procmail delivering it to different Maildir Folders
- courier-imap running on the same host (local)
- KMail, sometimes, especially when it is started with -check put
"Inbox" folder as some other folder child.
  Here is a screenshot: http://bulma.net/~pacoros/tmp/KMailBug.jpeg

Sometimes, when trying to read this "Inbox" folder and there is a new mail,
KMail
crashes. I can't reprodice this crash just now, if it happens, I'm going
to add debug info to this bug report.

This problem doesn't make KMail unusable, but makes KMail very unstable.
mutt and Mozilla Thunderbird does not unsort IMAP folders. Neither KMail
did, it's happening sice 2 weeks ago approximately.

AFAIK, some things will have to wait, because some software hasn't been
packaged in debian, at least, in unstable.

If you need SMIME, Adeodato Simó explained how to do it:

That was the problem. "Show statusbar" was indeed deactivated. In fact, I
had searched for a possibility to activate the statusbar before, but I had
been looking only in the "View" menu.

In my opinion, "Show statusbar" should be activated by default.

Hi.

This seems to be a 2nd version of the same bug. Procedure:
- Receive a mail. In my case, it has a text attachment. I can read it as
plain text in the body of the message.
- Save the message. Everything goes ok.
- Delete (not send to trash) the message.
- You have a crash.

I've tried this a couple of times, and it always crashes.

Last time I checked kdegames wasn't going to enter testing soon but
qt3.3 is probably tomorrow. So the package will FTBFS in testing, so
shouldn't this bug kept open tagged sarge as long there is no fixed
version in t-p-u?

Bug#272505: kmail: Mails in IMAP-folders are not displayed

2004-09-20 Thread Christian Frommeyer
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.0-2
Severity: important

Hi,

I just encountered Problems reading Mails in IMAP-Folders.
Sometimes if I select a Mail in the list (top-right hand side)
it would not show up in the message area (bottom right hand side).
selecting another Mail (which in some cases does not show up either)
and reselecting the previous one brings up the message.

I coukd reproduce this only for IMAP-folders but not always.

Greetings
Chris

Bug#272460: /var/tmp/kdecache- serves a different purpose than /tmp

2004-09-20 Thread Ismail Donmez
Hi,

/var/tmp/kdecache- used for caching web pages ( http dir ),
favourite icons ( favicons dir ) and some more directories for similar
purposes. So this directory shouldn't be auto-cleaned up. Hence it can't be
in /tmp.

Bug#272460: konqueror: /var/tmp/kdecache-login should be in /tmp

2004-09-20 Thread Fabrice LORRAIN
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.2.3-1.sarge.2
Severity: normal

Hello,

On an uptodate pre-sarge box, I just discover that konqueror (or some
other kde component) is using /var/tmp/kdecache-login :

$ konqueror
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
kbuildsycoca running...
Link points to "/var/tmp/kdecache-lorrain"

Could you please use /tmp for this as does some other kde component ?
/var/tmp is not cleaned on startup and using it for cache is subject of
scalability pb (we have ~11000 students here).

Fab

Bug#266760: kde: kde crashes X when quitting

2004-09-20 Thread Peder Chr . Nørgaard
Important information: this bug is known upstream! See

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88401
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86426

The problem seems to be not with X-windows but with arts; the work-around
described in the upstream bug reports works nicely around the problem.

On Sun, 19 Sep 2004, Riku Voipio wrote:

You are formally right, of course, but that is not very interesting as
long as we can't point out the place where X or kernel fails us. Or
artsd, which right now seems to be the case.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised myself. But you know how it is - a bug of
this kind, occurring along the interface between two complex systems, can
come and go for the most obscure reasons. The Xsession fix probably
changed some timing; it certainly didn't fix the bug directly.

That is not what I wrote: to get the work-around effect I had to use the
fix to the Xsession bug described in 266814.

-

Be that is it may, I must correct my posting as of August 25: fixing
the Xsession bug did not entirely work around the crashing bug. The bug
is still there, only now it only happens when I log out and shut down in
one operation (KDE Menu/Logout/Turn of computer). If I do it in two
operations (KDE Menu/Logout/End current Session, the shutdown system from
KDM "Menu" buttom, the system does not crash.

But: if I use the fix described in the upstream bug reports (Control
Center/Sound & Multimedia/Sound System/disable "run with highest possible
priority"), the crashing bug disappears for good.

Riku, you ask for more information. I am willing to help, bug I am no
expert in KDE/artsd interaction. If you can suggest specific things to do
that can provide you with useful information, I am more than willing to do
it. After all, the bug is quite simple to reproduce on several of
my systems - I just have the re-enable "run with highest possible
priority".

best regards
