Bug#276758: Doesn't show rss feeds content for one configured feed
Package: knewsticker Version: 4:3.3.0-2 Severity: normal Hi, I've configured knewsticker to show me two rss-feeds from the Guardian Website. One feed is for the Guardian frontpage (http://www.guardian.co.uk/rssfeed/0,15065,1,00.xml) and the second one for the WorldLatest news (http://www.guardian.co.uk/rssfeed/0,15065,12,00.xml). But whenever I now look at the available news. I will only see new articles shown for the second feed. The first feed will never show me any articles at all. Bug#276607: Handling kde upgrades: was: #276607
On Fri, Oct 15, 2004 at 03:51:51AM +0200, Adeodato Simó wrote: $ dpkg -x libmimelib1_3.2.3-1_i386.deb before $ dpkg -x libmimelib1_3.3.0-1_i386.deb after $ objdump -TC before/usr/lib/libmimelib.so.1.0.1 | grep AllFieldBodiesAsString 0001cf60 gDF .text 00be Base DwHeaders::AllFieldBodiesAsString(DwString const) $ objdump -TC after/usr/lib/libmimelib.so.1.0.1 | grep AllFieldBodiesAsString $ this obviously leads to broken installations if one upgrades mimelib without upgrading, e.g., kmail. It's an upstream issue. SONAME should be changed on each incompatible change. However, as it appears that kde isn't going to respect that... this would be achieved via conflicts or similar methods, and of course only for binary packages from a same source package. for example, one could have the kdepim-base (empty) packge on which all kdepim binary packages would depend on (with = X.Y.Z-d, and kdepim-base itself would conflict all other kdepim packages X.Y.Z *and* X.Y.Z. if the above is regarded as to cause more grief than it would solve, reconsider after s/X.Y.Z/X.Y/ in the last line of the above paragraph. At kde maintainanence, we have traditionally avoided using versioned conflicts, as the apt maintainer is claiming that they should only used in extreme cases, and that kde's current wide use of versioned conflicts is making (for example) apt-get dist-upgrade from woody to sarge (see #183702 and #183985 for example). However, we may need to make our package interdepencies more strict. Every time any new kde packages are uploaded to sid or migrate to sarge, we get a bunch of Unresolved symbol Z4FooBar or I dist-upgraded and nothing works anymore bug reports. After all of the kde upload bunch is migrated, the problems disappear, which ofcourse is sign that our depencies are not strict enough. However, is just enforcing same version within the source package isn't enough? For example, as far as I can know, in kde some symbol could be dropped in kdelibs 3.4, and if kdepim uses that symbol, it won't work anymore after the new kdelibs is installed. To properly enforce it, we would need a more brutal approach: Package: kde-version Version: 3.3.0 Conflicts: kdelibs4 ( 3.2.99 ), kdelibs4 ( 3.3.0.99 ) Package: kdelibs4 Version: 3.2.3-3 Depends: kde-version ( = 3.2.3 ) Package: kdelibs4 Version: 3.3.0-1 Depends: kde-version ( = 3.3.0 ) Now, since most kde packages depend on kdelibs4, we don't need to explictly conflict with all kde packagess. However, the change would make life for sid users a real pain in the ass. Instead of kde being _unusable_ when a new kdelibs-kdebase-kdepim etc chain is in progress of being uploaded (ie most of the time), kde would be _uninstallable_. So the bug reports would be Can't install kde in sid and Apt-get dist-upgrade is holding kde packages instead of the ones in the earlier paragraph. Your idea (per-source base packages) improves the situation, for some reason especially kmail users seem to mix different versions of the supporting libraries provided by kmail, and end up with a broken kmail. I'm not sure what would be the proper way to solve all cases, as symbols seem to appear and disappear even between minor releases.

It's still as responsive to scrolling/clicking as before, but having it draw attention like that is annoying. Running dcop 'kicker kicker restart' fixes it in a very brute-force fashion; I believe this may be related to another bug where the entire kicker - along with applets - starts acting extremely slowly, although CPU usage remains low. In other news, a way to examine it while it's running would be nice - is that possible without haveing the kicker get in the way? Obviously I can't attach gdb to it; is there another debugging interface? -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux flash.brage.info 2.4.20-ac2-preempt-bttv #5 man mar 3 20:45:17 CET 2003 i686 Locale: LANG=no_NO, LC_CTYPE=no_NO Versions of packages knewsticker depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.1.1-1 KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.12-1Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc62.3.1-17GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0c102 2.6.9-4 client library to control the FAM ii libgcc1 1:3.3-0pre9 GCC support library ii libpng12-0 1.2.5-10PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt3:3.1.1-7 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++5 1:3.3-0pre9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii xlibs4.2.1-6 X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g 1:1.1.4-11 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information --- Received: (at 193218-done) by bugs.debian.org; 16 Oct 2004 13:40:25 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 16 06:40:25 2004 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from uittosatama.fi [217.30.179.138] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1CIonJ-0004L2-00; Sat, 16 Oct 2004 06:40:25 -0700 Received: by uittosatama.fi (Postfix, from userid 573) id 7C505EE8105; Sat, 16 Oct 2004 16:39:54 +0300 (EEST) Date: Sat, 16 Oct 2004 16:39:54 +0300 From: Riku Voipio [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Fixed upstream Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline X-message-flag: Warning: message not sent with a DRM-Certified client User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6+20040907i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-3.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00 autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: Upstream has fixed this one long since.

I came across it when I was debugging why the hell freshmeat.net news wasn't displaying correctly. It turned out that freshmeat.net server understands Accept-Encoding: deflate, gzip, blah, blah KNewsTicker is sending and gzips the data prior to sending it. However KNewsTicker overlooks Content-Encoding: gzip, thinks it got some garbage from the server and shows No articles available 2) It does not correctly react to HTTP Moved permanently message. This one was generated by jabber.org server using the standard URL that came with KNewsTicker. I think it should pop up some dialogbox asking Do you want to update the URL in preferences? or just silently update it. -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux master 2.4.8 #1 Thu Aug 16 00:07:51 CEST 2001 i686 Locale: LANG=pl_PL, LC_CTYPE=pl_PL Versions of packages knewsticker depends on: ii kdebase 4:2.2.0.20010822-1 KDE core applications ii kdelibs3 4:2.2.0-final-3KDE core libraries (runtime files) ii libc6 2.2.4-1GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libjpeg62 6b-1.3 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libkdenetwork14:2.2.0-final-1Common libraries needed for KDE ne ii libpng2 1.0.12-2 PNG library - runtime ii libqt22:2.3.1-8 Qt GUI Library (runtime version). ii libstdc++2.10-glibc2. 1:2.95.4-0.010825 The GNU stdc++ library ii xlibs 4.1.0-2X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g1:1.1.3-15 compression library - runtime --- Received: (at 110176-done) by bugs.debian.org; 16 Oct 2004 14:00:04 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 16 07:00:04 2004 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from uittosatama.fi [217.30.179.138] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1CIp6J-0006lk-00; Sat, 16 Oct 2004 07:00:04 -0700 Received: by uittosatama.fi (Postfix, from userid 573) id 27C71EE8105; Sat, 16 Oct 2004 16:59:33 +0300 (EEST) Date: Sat, 16 Oct 2004 16:59:33 +0300 From: Riku Voipio [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Closed by upstream Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline X-message-flag: Warning: message not sent with a DRM-Certified client User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6+20040907i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-2.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_01 autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: Hi, http KIO slave now supports properly content-encoding and redirections, so knewsticker should work fine for you.

By adding a sleep 10 to startkde we would just be working around the bug that artsd running on realtime priority deadlocks the system if killed while playing back?
