This shows up only for the "Only when moving windows" desktop switching
mode. If you enable it desktop switching while dragging windows works
intermittently -

   - nearly always going up,
   - sometimes going left to right
   - hardly ever going right to left and going down

Enabling the full switching option works so most likely the cause of the
problem is that the desktop switching code does not recognise windows as
being moved.

An understandable mistake. With many (most, I suspect) packages, the
debian diffs are applied upon dpkg-source -x. For the KDE modules
they're not applied until you actually begin the build.

Sorry for filing this here, I am not acquainted with kde, so I don't
know the appropriate subpackage...

Anyhow, tagging this upstream...

Problem is when you configure automatic desktop icons for unmounted
CD-ROM etc. devices, clicking on the device mounts it automatically
with options noexec, nodev, nosuid -- this is *very* nice actually,
but at times it is a problem, when the user wants to legitimally run
an executable from a CD-ROM.

It would be nice to have a feature to allow the overriding of the
noexec option on a per-case basis.

Thanks,

It is not fixed in kdegraphics 3.3.1-1. I just downloaded the source
(apt-get source kdegraphics), and the kfax.cpp is the version dated July
12, 2004 which is in the tagged KDE_3_3_1_RELEASE. The fix was committed
to both KDE_3_3_BRANCH and KDE_3_2_BRANCH on October 16, 2004. The 3.2
branch was refixed on October 23.

The kfax in kdegraphics 3.3.1-1 deb is already fixed afaik, they removed
libtiff from kdegraphics source and use libtiff-tools instead.

Bug#280373: kfax libtiff vulnerabilities

2004-11-08 Thread Andreas Mueller
Package: kfax
Version: 4:3.3.1-1
Severity: normal

-- cut from the inoffical KDE Security Advisory --

kfax, a small utility for displaying fax files, contains
for historic reasons a private copy of libtiff.
Therefore it is vulnerable to these issues as well.

As a workaround, you can remove the kfax binary and the
kfax_multipage KPart from your system to be on the safe
side. A new package is now on ktown.

This issue is already sort-of public because Red Hat already announced
it as part of their kdegraphics update.

Cheers,
amu

kdeutils override disparity

2004-11-08 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

kgpg_3.3.1-1_i386.deb: package says section is utils, override says kde.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in
due course, but until then the installer will send these automated
mails; sorry.]

Package: kde
Version: last version for woody/unstable

I'm using the unstable version of woody. I did an upgrade of many packages
(using the program dselect). Afer rebooting the system, kde has stopped working.

I thought that it was a good idea to remove kde and reinstall it. So I removed
the package, but when I typed

apt-get install kde

the system said:

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kde: Depends: kde-core but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kde-amusements but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdeaddons but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdeadmin but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdeartwork but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdegraphics but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdemultimedia but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdenetwork but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdepim but it is not going to be installed
Depends: kdeutils but it is not going to be installed
Depends: quanta but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

I found that probably the problem is kdelibs4, that depends on libopenexr0,
which was removed by the mirrors (and substituted by libopenexr2).

Bug#280287: Mail on NFS

2004-11-08 Thread Helmut Toplitzer

So, after some more tries I suggest that
the problem is in file-handling of
files contained in the ~/Mail directory.

It looks like the copy process from the window
to the outbox or from outbox to the kio-slave
causes this problem.

Maybe this should be noted somewhere in
a README if not fixed before next upload.

Cheers
helmut

Bug#280287: kmail not nfs safe?

2004-11-08 Thread Helmut Toplitzer

Hi again!

After some testing I found out that the only
difference between the two systems is the
nfs-mounted homedir.

I tried a user with no nfs-homedir on the
same system and the problem is gone.
(Tried a newly created nfs-homedir user
resulting in the same problems)

So it look like kmail is not nfs-safe.

Maybe that helps.

Bug#280287: [kmail]: New sent messages contains content of messages sent before

2004-11-08 Thread Helmut Toplitzer

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.0-3
Severity: important
Tags: security

Writing and sending one big mail (with attach. etc.) and sending
another one small after this one will result in a mail with
mixed content of both.

The interesting thing about this is that only the first 4KB of
the old mail are used. Even stopping kmail and waiting for
the kio-slaves to stop and then sending a message again
takes the old content.

I've tested this on 2 machines but the problem was only
reproducible on one of them. Tried to delete all kmail-config
and doing the same again with the same results.

Tried different locale, tried moving Draft/outbox folder to
IMAP/to local folders. No change.

This also happens if used with Kontact/KOrganizer and sending
a meeting-mail. So more apps are effected by this problem.
Sometimes the "additional" content is not shown in the mail-view
but it's source contains it (view source).

Additional info: KDE-Profile is on an nfs-mount but sockets, tmps
etc. are linked by the kde-scripts to /tmp.

Thinking of the next debian-upload (3.3.1) in the next days i'm
reporting and doing some further tests.

If you need some more info like exact config, mail content or
you want me to test something please contact me.

Helmut

OpenPGP seems the old inline way, and in my kmail, is marked as obsolete.

Well, OpenPGP/MIME is not the same than just Openpgp :-)

Only signing and decrypting messages requires your private key, so is the only
moment you will be asked for a passphrase, IIRC.

Bug#280223: kmail: fatal error when deleting folder during download (IMAP offline)

2004-11-08 Thread Asmund Hjulstad
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.0-3
Severity: normal

My incoming mail server is configured as offline IMAP. One of my folders
contain spam filtered by some program on the server, and typically
contains lots of junk.

If I choose to delete the folder, choosing Delete from the context menu
of the folder in kmail, *while* downloading new messages from the
folder, kmail quits, showing a message dialog with:

KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now.

I can consistently reproduce this bug.

Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: important

I am using Juk as my music player since 4 months. For some reason it
won't start now. When I launch it, there's no crash. Two processes stay
alive, but the Juk window doesn't come up, neither does the systray
icon. So it's unusable. I have absolutely no idea why it doesn't start
NOW, the only thing I did in the last session is to play songs. If I
start juk at the command line, nothing is printed. I used Synaptic to
reinstall juk with no improvement. I am not sure what means reinstall
for Synaptic though, and I didn't purge it because huge packages depend
on it (kde, kdemultimedia).
