Same problem here, though I'm using dilinger's XOrg builds. Thanks, nVidia! :(

Bug#304726: kdebase-data: split off the wallpapers, please.

2005-04-14 Thread Zack Cerza
Package: kdebase-data
Version: 4:3.4.0-0pre3
Severity: wishlist

This is reported using KDE 3.4, but it is just as valid for any previous
version.

Please split the wallpapers in /usr/share/wallpapers to another package,
or just remove them. It's a hassle every time I go to change my
wallpaper, because I have to scroll through tens of unwanted (IMO ugly)
other ones.

Thanks,
Zack

Severity: grave
Tags: security patch
Justification: user security hole

Dear KDE maintainers,
the security fix for CAN-2005-0064 was derived from xpdf 3.00-12, which
in fact turned out to be incomplete wrt to a missing range check in XRef.cc.
Attached you can find a patch that adds the missing range verification, as
it has been done for xpdf 3.00-13.

Cheers,
Moritz

I must report two not-so-minor glitches:
1) if load xlogmaster xorg process takes 100% processor.
2) kwin does not whoe window list anymore on alt-tab, even if proper checkbox
is checked in kcontrol

I'm trying the composite features on nvidia board. I'll report on that

the thing is it breaks Xorg at each time for me.

You have to add the following line to the "Device" section of your nvidia
card:

Option "RenderAccel" "true"

[ Of course you must have the nvidia binary drivers installed. ]

Read more about this setting and the effect it'll have on your OpenGL
experience in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-glx/README.gz (check the
AllowGLXWithComposite option, too). You should believe what they say when
they tag those option as "experimental" because it'll break your X from time
to time. Mine crashes but it looks good :)

Bug#304679: i386 port should not compile code for i686

2005-04-14 Thread Alberto
Package: kdelibs
Version: 3.3.2-4.0.2
Tracing why kdebase does not compile for me on a k6-2:
 ] configure:28296: /usr/share/qt3/bin/uic -L
/usr/lib/kde3/plugins/designer -nounload -impl actest.h actest.ui >
 ] actest.cpp
 ] configure:28299: $? = 0
 ] configure:28313: result: no
] configure:28316: error: you need to install kdelibs first.

I got out this subtle error:
Conflict in /usr/lib/kde3/plugins/designer/kdewidgets.so:
Plugin uses incompatible Qt library!
expected build key "i586 Linux g++-3.* full-config", got "i686 Linux
g++-3.* full-config"

I inspected kdelibs source, found many i686 references. I changed them
to i586, recompiled kdelibs and all errors dissapeared now.

Re: xorg & kde-3.4.0 on Debian unstable (apt repository available)

2005-04-14 Thread Pierre Habouzit
well, I've tried it, maybe it was my nvidia card, but transludency was
slow as hell (yeah, *really hyper* slow).

still, xorg without those effects seems a bit faster than xfree, and may
worth the risk.

xorg & kde-3.4.0 on Debian unstable (apt repository available)

2005-04-14 Thread Mihai Maties
The same announcement from two different point of views:

>From MARKETING dept.

Are you tired of waiting for Sarge to be released in order to experiment with
X.org on your wonderful Debian system ? [1] You would like to be able to
amaze your friends with some really fancy translucent effects but you cannot
do it for the moment ? [2]

Then wait no more, put aside your frustration ! Just add the following lines
to your /etc/apt/sources.list file and install xorg on your favorite linux
distribution (may that be Debian unstable):

<--- cut here --->
# i386 binary packages (amd64 will be available soon)
deb http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg unstable main

# sources
deb-src http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg unstable main

Install xorg now and you will receive the latest kwin package for free
including kompmgr. Why would you need kompmgr you might wonder. The answer is
simple: because it integrates all those translucent effects nicely into
kde-3.4.0.

Get it while stock lasts !

>From TECH. dept.

I created an apt repository ( http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg/ ) that
contains the latest stable xorg packages and kdebase-3.4 with kompmgr support
added.

To put it in another way I just rebuilt the xorg ubuntu packages on Debian
unstable and modified the latest kdebase-3.4.0 package from pkg-kde.alioth to
include kompmgr (more info: http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg/changes/).

To install the kwin package you will need to add the pkg-kde repository in
order to satisfy dependencies (http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/docs/).

Feel free to try the packages and please report back if you have any
suggestions/problems.

konsole fixed font

2005-04-14 Thread Alexander K.
hi

I think this is a rather known problem but I seem to
be unable to fix it. I am runing testing on a i386
platform and during my last dist-upgrade
about 700 packages got installed. Everything worked
fine only one annoying thing happend: konsole and KDE
(3.3.2) in fact would not access the fixed fonts
anymore. I know they are there and I can see them with
xlsfonts and the xterm can uses them but KDE doesnt.
Any ideas ?

thanks
