Bug#310873: A Prisonner of the dependency hell

On May 28, 2005 18:48, Steve Langasek wrote: > Did you install konqueror and libqt3 with aptitude, or with another tool? > If konqueror is installed with aptitude, allowing libqt3 to be pulled in > automatically, does aptitude do a better job of conflict resolution on > upgrade? Konqueror in Woody doesn't pull in libqt3 automatically, since KDE in Woody still used Qt2. > So, this works: > > aptitude markauto libqt3 > perl -pi -e's/stable/sarge/' /etc/apt/sources.list > apt-get update > aptitude dist-upgrade A libqt3 dummy package, without dependencies, also seems to suffice to keep Woody's aptitude from removing konqueror when performing a dist-upgrade. It does nothing for apt-get and dselect, though, so it's not of much help except to eliminate the need for aptitude users to ensure that libqt3 is marked auto. Further work needed... BTW, I'd like to thank Bill Allombert for all his help with this issue. Cheers, Christopher Martin pgpGqRNs6fTac.pgp Description: PGP signature

So, this works: aptitude markauto libqt3 perl -pi -e's/stable/sarge/' /etc/apt/sources.list apt-get update aptitude dist-upgrade But it doesn't give us a solution for users of archs where we don't have a working aptitude for woody. -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature

If konqueror is installed with aptitude, allowing libqt3 to be pulled in automatically, does aptitude do a better job of conflict resolution on upgrade? -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#311092: negative unread messages number
Package: knode Version: 4:3.3.2-3 Severity: normal I'm not sure why but I see negative number of unread messages after I've fetched newsgroups articles. After restarting Kontact the number is calculated correctly. Bug#307202: More detail
I wish to add that I am using an Nvidia graphics card (nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce MX 440 AGP 8x]) using the Nvidia drivers (built from nvidia-kernel-source 1.0.7174-3) and some unbranded generic monitor but has happened since I first started using the nVidia drivers. This happens on resolutions 1280x1024, 1280x960, 1024x760, 800x600 and downwards I presume. It doesn't seem to occur with the basic "nv" drivers at 1024x760 but I have never managed to put them on a resolution other than that. This also seems to happen on the Politics, Health, Business, Wales, Scotland, England, UK and World sections but not the Science and Nature, Education, Northern Ireland News front page and Entertainment which are fine.
