Thanks,

KDE 3.5 backport

2005-12-12 Thread Manfred Paul
Hi,

mea from debian-desktop finish backporting KDE 3.5 to etch (ppc) and sarge
(x86). But the sarge packages still have some bugs.
The qt libs are named libqt3-mt in sid and etch, while they are names
libqt3c102-mt in sarge.

That`s why my question. Should the qt package be renamed, or is it possible to
add an provides statement into the control file?

Here is an example:

Package: libqt3-mt
Version: 3:3.3.5-1mea1
Section: libs
Priority: optional
Architecture: i386
Depends: libaudio2, libc6 (>= 2.3.2.ds1-21), libfontconfig1 (>= 2.3.0),
libfreetype6 (>= 2.1.5-1), libgcc1 (>= 1:3.4.1-3), libice6 | xlibs (>>
4.1.0), libjpeg62, libmng1 (>= 1.0.3-1), libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.8rel), libsm6 |
xlibs (>> 4.1.0), libstdc++5 (>= 1:3.3.4-1), libx11-6 | xlibs (>> 4.1.0),
libxcursor1 (>> 1.1.2), libxext6 | xlibs (>> 4.1.0), libxft2 (>> 2.1.1),
libxi6 | xlibs (>> 4.1.0), libxinerama1, libxrandr2 | xlibs (>> 4.3.0),
libxrender1, libxt6 | xlibs (>> 4.1.0), zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.1), fontconfig
Suggests: libqt3-mt-psql, libqt3-mt-mysql, libqt3-mt-odbc
Conflicts: libqui1-emb, libqt3c-mt
Replaces: qt3-tools (<< 2:3.0.2-20020306-1), libqt3-helper, libqt3
Provides: libqt3c102-mt

Is this ok? Of course it can`t, because a can`t install these packages :-(

Is anybody familiar with backporting?

thx

manne

Bug#343127: qt-x11-free: Will need to be rebuilt for IA64 with updated binutils

2005-12-12 Thread Ian Wienand
Package: qt-x11-free
Severity: important

Hi,

As noted in

http://lists.debian.org/debian-ia64/2005/12/msg6.html

kdevelop3 crashes the linker when it builds.

It turns out this is due to the linker bug (actually a bug from 'strip
-g')

http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1991

and a fix to the linker has been applied in

http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2008

However, this patch will cause the the linker to bail out, rather than
crash, so the package still won't build.

A rebuild of these libraries will be required when an updated binutils
is available, I have asked the binutils people about this in #342777

Bug#324958: Letter from Russia

2005-12-12 Thread Valentin

Dear Friends,

Please excuse me for any inconvice caused by this message.

My name is Valentin. I am student and I live with my mother in small city
Kaluga, in Russia. My mother is invalid. She cannot see and she receive pension
from the government very rare which is not enough even for medications.

I work very hard every day to be able to buy the necessities and medications
for my mother, but my salary is very small, because my studies still not
finished.

Due to the deep crisis, authorities stoped gas in our district and we cannot
heat our home anymore. I do not know what to do, because the weather is very
cold here already and I'm very afraid that if the temperature will be lower
than 0 degree in our sleeping room, we will not be able to survive.

I applied to local Red Cross and they explained me that many people ask them
for help every day and they cannot help to each family who are in such a bad
situation. They adviced me to search help from individuals.

Thanks to free public Internet access in our local library, I was able to find
several addresses, including yours and I decided to appeal to you with a prayer
in my heart for a small help. If you have any old used sleeping bag, warm
blanket, warm clothes in size L or XL, portable heater, canned food, vitamins,
water boiler, medicines against cold weather, any hygiene products, I will be
very grateful you if you could send it to our home address:

Valentin Mikhailin,
Rileewa 6-45,
Kaluga 248030
Russia.

If you think that it would be better or easier for you to help with some money,
please writes me back to me and I will provide you with details how to send it
safely, if you agree. This way to help is very good, because in this case I
will be able to buy a portable stove and heat our home during the winter.

I hope to hear from you very soon and I pray that you can help us. I also hope
very much that this hard situation will become better in our country very soon.

>From all my heart I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2006.
>Please excuse me, once more, for any inconvience I could cause you with this
>message.

Valentin,
Kaluga. Russia.

In the code? No, not by me. I don't see any reason why that lock would
be taken indefinitely anyway.

Package: libwv2-dev
Version: 0.2.2-4
Severity: important

The output of "wv2-config --libs" includes a number of libraries which are
only needed when building static binaries; this causes unnecessary direct
library dependencies in Debian packages like "kword" whose sources rely on
wv2-config output, which is undesirable; see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00016.html

Please introduce a "--static" option to provide options suitable for static
linking and have "--libs" output just "-lwv2".

Hello,

The current version of wv2 fails to build on
GNU/kFreeBSD, because of outdated libtool.

The version of libtool in wv2 is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD. libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

Here is how to update the libtool in your package (Make sure you
are using libtool 1.5.2-1 or later:
  libtoolize -c -f
aclocal (-Im4 might be needed if there's an "m4" template dir)
  autoconf

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
in their next release.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Bug#343055: qt3-dev-tools: segfault after prelink

2005-12-12 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: qt3-dev-tools
Version: 3:3.3.5-3
Severity: normal

Hi. This bug is the same than #330330 but no one seems to
care. Here, on my vanilla unstable, every Qt app segfaults after
prelink where every other app on my system still runs fine. This is
not very annoying to me as the only Qt software i use is xxdiff, but
it may make KDE totally broken for other people.
I tried to rebuild xxdiff with debug symbols, i then apt-get
sourced it and edited some files as DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip with Qt
project files. Build failed as uic[1] was also segfaulting on startup
after prelink. That's why i reportbug to this package as i may get
more help than on xxidff.
I hope somebody is going to help me on this bug and tell me
how to rebuild any Qt packaged with debug symbols.

Thanks.
