Bug#348025: Acknowledgement (kdelibs seem to broke MIME types for entire KDE!)
Update: this bug is not just grave, it is HORRIBLE - renders entire KDE unusable, after that upgrade almost no KDE application works (Ksnapshot can't save, krusader can't operate on files, konqueror dont load any page, amarok do not start, and so on) In addition to MIME, the applications complain about io_slave kio_slave Part of strace which I think my be relevant access(/usr/lib/kde3/plugins/imageformats/., F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) access(/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats/., F_OK) = 0 open(/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats, O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_LARGEFILE|O_DIRECTORY) = 12 lstat64(/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats/libqmng.so, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=21016, ...}) = 0 access(/usr/bin/imageformats/., F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) this are parts of strace when in example KSnapshot is about to show the error message about MIME types. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#348025: kdelibs seem to broke MIME types for entire KDE!
tags 348025 unreproducible severity 348025 important stop I suspect someone would have noticed by now if the latest kdelibs were simply hosing their entire desktop; there must be something else going on here. First of all, I'd do a dist-upgrade to the latest unstable. The latest libdjvulibre package no longer conflicts with kdelibs-data. A nice clean purge/reinstall of kdelibs might help, again. Be sure to apt-get clean, then re-download the packages, to make sure you're not using something corrupted. Also, you might want to move your ~/.kde directory aside (say, to ~/.kde-old) and then try again; that way you can eliminate the possibility that a problem with your user settings is at the root of the problem. Bug#348092: libqt4-gui: Built to not support gifs (as per build default)
Package: libqt4-gui Version: 4.0.1-5 Severity: important I understand that by default the Qt configure script disables gif support. It can be re-enabled in debian/rules by supplying -qt-gif as a parameter to ./configure. I have not tested this thoroughly, but I cannot find any mention of gif in the debian directory, so I assume this has not been changed. I have had a problem when a Qt4 application I compiled tried to load a gif, but due to the nature of the application it's hard to test whether there's a problem or not. I've supplied the option and am rebuilding the package. Meanwhile I have submitted this report. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14.3 Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages libqt4-gui depends on: ii fontconfig 2.3.2-1.1 generic font configuration library ii libaudio21.7-3 The Network Audio System (NAS). Bug#327392: kate restored on the wrong virtual desktop
Package: kate Version: 4:3.5.0-4 Followup-For: Bug #327392 Hi, The behaviour has changed in KDE 3.5, and is much more annoying. KDE logout + login restores the right virtual desktop even if I have Kate running. However, it seems that the Kate window is restored on the wrong virtual desktop. Bug#348092: libqt4-gui: Built to not support gifs (as per build default)
severity 348092 wishlist thanks Russell Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Package: libqt4-gui Version: 4.0.1-5 Severity: important Woah, hey now, don't you think that severity is a little over-inflated? I understand that by default the Qt configure script disables gif support. Hmm, well I don't any reason to not enable it, so I'll include it in the next upload. -- Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#348120: kdm does not list available window managers in menu list
Package: kdm Version: 4:3.5.0-4 Severity: normal kdm used to list twm, olwm, and other installed window managers a couple years ago when I first installed kdm, I do not remember which Debian release it was. I recently installed Sarge, and updated to Sid. olwm and twm have been installed the entire time, but never showed up in the menu in kdm. I put in a wish-list bug with olwm, that I had to create a file for olwm (and twm) by hand in /usr/share/xsessions, === When did olwm stop creating the file? It never did. As I said, olwm registers the x-window-manager alternative which can be used easily to generate a list of all installed window managers. I guess there is some application that did exactly that and now no longer does it. But I don't have the slightest idea about which one that could be. Martin === Maybe someone could forward this bug to whatever maintainer/package/committee it is that decides if it is a core X issue, a kdm issue, or the responsibility of the individual window manager to write a file into /usr/share/xsessions. Whatever it is, I think it would be greatly appreciated, if the comments I and others on the user list have made are any indication.
