Bug#348418: kdebase: kde*-3.5.0-4 Packages Break Device Icons on Desktop
Package: kdebase Version: 4:3.5.0-4 Severity: important Hi! I just upgraded to the kde*-3.5.0-4 packages from unstable. Previously I was using the kde*-3.5.0-1 packages from Alioth. With the 3.5.0-1 packages, the device icons on the desktop work as expected: No icons are displayed when nothing is connected to the system, and when I either insert a CD or attach a USB drive I get the corresponding icon and a dialog which prompts me whether I want to open a file browser for the newly attached device, etc. This is the expected behaviour. With the 3.5.0-4 packages, I'm seeing the following behaviour: I have a CD icon on my desktop, even when no CD is in the drive. What is worse, I get no new icons when attaching a USB drive, and thus am unable to access the data (becoming root and mounting the drive manually does work). In neither case do I get the dialog asking what to do with the newly detected medium. As the changelog mentions several changes related to dbus, hal and USB, I assume that one of the changes breaks the device icons. Thanks for looking into this, Georg -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (300, 'unstable'), (200, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-gw Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages kdebase depends on: ii kappfinder4:3.5.0-4 non-KDE application finder for KDE ii kate 4:3.5.0-4 advanced text editor for KDE ii kcontrol 4:3.5.0-4 control center for KDE ii kdebase-bin 4:3.5.0-4 core binaries for the KDE base mod ii kdebase-data 4:3.5.0-4 shared data files for the KDE base ii kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.5.0-4 core I/O slaves for KDE ii kdepasswd 4:3.5.0-4 password changer for KDE ii kdeprint 4:3.5.0-4 print system for KDE ii kdesktop 4:3.5.0-4 miscellaneous binaries and files f ii kfind 4:3.5.0-4 file-find utility for KDE ii khelpcenter 4:3.5.0-4 help center for KDE ii kicker4:3.5.0-4 desktop panel for KDE ii klipper 4:3.5.0-4 clipboard utility for KDE ii kmenuedit 4:3.5.0-4 menu editor for KDE ii konqueror 4:3.5.0-4 KDE's advanced file manager, web b ii konqueror-nsplugins 4:3.5.0-4 Netscape plugin support for Konque ii konsole 4:3.5.0-4 X terminal emulator for KDE ii kpager4:3.5.0-4 desktop pager for KDE ii kpersonalizer 4:3.5.0-4 installation personalizer for KDE ii ksmserver 4:3.5.0-4 session manager for KDE ii ksplash 4:3.5.0-4 the KDE splash screen ii ksysguard 4:3.5.0-4 system guard for KDE ii ktip 4:3.5.0-4 useful tips for KDE ii kwin 4:3.5.0-4 the KDE window manager ii libkonq4 4:3.5.0-4 core libraries for Konqueror Versions of packages kdebase recommends: ii kdm 4:3.5.0-4 X display manager for KDE -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#348428: kate: Regression: Document selector always opens, even when Kate was closed with it closed
Package: kate Version: 4:3.5.0-4 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 In Kate from 3.4.3, if I left the document selector closed when I closed Kate, it would stay closed the next time I ran Kate. Now with Kate from 3.5.0, it opens *every time* I run Kate. This is very annoying. If I have one file open, I don't need the document selector open taking up screen space. In fact, I never used it at all in the old Kate, I used the (now missing) document selector buttons I could put in the toolbar. - -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (650, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15adp Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages kate depends on: ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.0-3 core libraries for all KDE applica ii libacl1 2.2.34-1Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr1 2.4.25-1Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio21.7-3 The Network Audio System (NAS). Bug#348437: kdm auto-login causes keyboard failure
Package: kdm Version: 3.4.3-3 This is already reported by a few hundred people on google. Problem: Box is set to autologin with KDM, after I am logged in, the keyboard either does not work or does weird things like auto-repeats etc. Using GDM fixes the problem as GDM does not appear to have the same bug. This occurs on two separate machines reported by users on google/mailing lists/etc-- many people have the issue, it appears it has not been fixed in Debian Etch yet :( Using: Debian Etch I am using Linux box 2.6.15.1 #2 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jan 16 17:43:05 EST 2006 i686 GNU/Linux and libc-2.3.5 Thanks!
