Bug#315392: Suggest closing or degrading

2006-02-20 Thread Adam Porter
May I suggest that this bug be closed, or at least degraded, since a) it's
most likely been fixed in later versions, and b) seems to happen when used
after a different version of KMail on the same config files? Doesn't seem
like an RC bug to me. (But what do I know, I'm just a user. :)

Bug#353814: kdelibs-bin: meinproc is relicensing my code

2006-02-20 Thread Ben Burton

Hi again,

Just to confirm:

> /usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/customization/kde-chunk.xsl.

If you comment out lines 90--100 (the xsl:template block that deals with
legalnotice), the GFDL link goes away and the correct notice is
displayed instead (in my example, it correctly states that the program is
licensed under the GPL).

This should give you a quick fix for the RC bug. However, this is a
rather serious issue -- meinproc should not be arbitrarily changing
authors' licenses, and for some licenses (such as GPL) it _cannot_
relicense under the GFDL.  This does therefore need to go upstream;
I would be most appreciative if whoever is best in touch with upstream
these days could do this.

Thanks - Ben.

Bug#353814: kdelibs-bin: meinproc is relicensing my code

2006-02-20 Thread Ben Burton
Package: kdelibs-bin
Version: 4:3.5.1-2
Severity: serious

Hi,

I have a KDE application whose documentation is licensed under the GPL.
In particular, its index.docbook contains the line:

&underGPL;

When I build the application and meinproc is run over the docbook files,
it generates an HTML index that looks like:

Title (large bold heading)

Author
Revision number
Copyright notice

Legal Notice

Abstract ...

In past versions of KDE, the legal notice was actually a short blurb
stating which license was used. Now it is simply a hyperlink with the
two words "Legal Notice".

So: To find out the license, you must click on the "Legal Notice"
hyperlink, and --- it sends you to help:/common/fdl-notice.html, which
states that the documentation is licensed under the GFDL version 1.1 or
later.

For the obvious reasons, I most certainly do _not_ want my documentation
licensed under the GFDL. It is GPLed, as stated in index.docbook, and
the documentation that appears in the help centre should not be telling
users something different.

I am marking this bug as serious, since meinproc is used to generate all
of the KDE help centre documentation, and so users are being presented
with license information that is incorrect.

As for the cause: I'm not too familiar with meinproc internals, but I
suspect the culprit is /usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/customization/kde-chunk.xsl.
Around lines 90--100 it does look rather like the fdl-notice is being
dropped into the documentation regardless of what actually appears inside
the tag.

Ben.

Bug#353762: kmail: KMail freezes it's GUI when sending/receiving mail

2006-02-20 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.1-1
Severity: important

KMail freezes it's GUI when sending mails or receiving new mails.
This bug is especially flustrating when KMail filters mails through
SpamAssassing, SpamBayes or ClamAV, since each mail takes secons to
complete.

Try to write a new mail to someone and check for new mails with SPAM
and Virus filtering set up. Ensure you have some new mails to download.
The mail editor will suspend for seconds (depending on the speed of your
machine).

This problem exists for years and remains unsolved. The bug is increasingly
flustrating, since filtering time increases faster than available CPU speed.

Is it possible to move the time consuming processes out of the GUI thread?

Using a separate process or a dedicated KDE service could be a better
solution than freezing the whole application. Filtering should run with a
lower priority (around 10-15) to prevent unnecessary system hog when
checking for new mail.

See comments here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41514

YES, this is a duplicate bug-report. But I think re-reporting this bug is
essential, since usability of KMail suffers badly.

Bug#353740: kdelibs-bin: kdeinit not starting

2006-02-20 Thread Andrew Maier
Package: kdelibs-bin
Version: 4:3.5.1-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

after an upgrade of kdelib-bin today I get the following warning when
starting a kde session:

startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation.

Looking into the .xsession-errors file, I find the following message:

kdeinit: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol:
FT_GlyphSlot_Embolden

This error is reproduceable (I rebooted the machine to be safe) and did
not go away by reinstalling either kdelibs-bin or libxft2.

Any help welcome.

Andrew

Bug#353722: kde 3.5.1 at login says: could not start kdeinit. check your installation

2006-02-20 Thread Frank Sauer

Package: KDE
Version: 3.5.1
Severity: important

KDE no longer starts up properly after an "apt-get dist-upgrade" yesterday.

Right after entering usrn/pwd at login screen, a window appears in the
upper left corner saying "could not start kdeinit. check your
installation". the KDE splash screen is then stuck at ("interprocess
communication setup" (in German, in my case, it says: Einrichtung
Interprozess Kommunikation) and the startup process stops at this point.
"ps" at that time says:

 /usr/bin/kdm
  \_ /usr/X11R6/bin/X -br -nolisten tcp :0 vt7 -auth
/var/run/xauth/A:0-wHJggl

  \_ -:0
  \_ /bin/sh /usr/bin/startkde
  \_ /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/startkde
\_ xmessage -geometry 500x100 Could not start kdeinit. Check
your installation.

when clicking "Okay" in the error message window, startup continues but
KDE then does not work properly: some key-binds are missing. programs
crash right at startup (e.g. licq, mozilla, firefox) or crash after a
few minutes (e.g. gftp). the problem appears for all users on the
machine, even when starting KDE without a ~/.kde directory (the
kpersonalizer "first session wizard" will then just crash at second
screen and the KDE splash and the error message will appear as described
above). nothing is logged in the syslog, kdm or Xorg logs.

the only clue i got so far is found in .xsession-errors and leads me
to believe that the trouble is somehow connected to libxft2.
.xsession-errors says:

startkde: Starting up...
kdeinit: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol:
FT_GlyphSlot_Embolden

Severity: normal

With the kernel 2.6.15-1-k7, I have this message in /var/log/kern.log

needed

I can't see impact on the sound system because it's work well with this
message.
With kernel 2.6.12-1-k7, artsd process use about 200M of memory after 3
hours!! But, it never crash or freeze anything.
