Bug#362871: ark: "The utility is not in your PATH." when trying to open .deb

2006-04-15 Thread Filipus Klutiero
Package: ark
Version: 4:3.5.2-1
Severity: normal

Since 3.5.2 (downgrading to 3.5.1-2 fixes), ark fails to open .deb when
launched with $ ark foo.deb. However, it usually succeeds to open them
when launched with $ ark; and opening the deb archive. Sometimes,
though, the error appears even in this case (it was about 1 time in 5,
just to give an idea). When it fails, the error message
"The utility is not in your PATH.
Please install it or contact your system administrator."
appears. After "The utility", the name of a utility should show, but
there is none, so presumably ark is looking for something which doesn't
exist.
This looks like an upstream bug, but I'd like you to verify this before
forwarding. To give a clue about where the problem could be, this looks
like a regression that could have been introduced with the zip/unzip
fixes introduced in 3.5.2.

Thanks for the heads up. Notice of a merged patch is always nice, but
otherwise there is no real need to do anything unless upstream's patch
is different or better in some way, is security-related, etc.

When we package a KDE release that has the merged patch, we'll notice
(because the Debian patch won't apply anymore), check why, see that
it's merged, and simply drop it.

Cheers,
Christopher Martin

Yes, though supposedly the next release of KimDaba/KPhotoAlbum/whatever
will resolve the issue. It's the only app to seem to suffer from this,
and it has suffered from this bug on almost all the other distros
(since the rubberband patches are pretty much standard).

Since KimDaba upstream claims that a new release is imminent, I'm not
inclined to revert the patch just yet.

Thanks for the notice; I appreciate these reminders, since it's easy to
miss things.

That said, all the fixes that were added to the new immqt patch I'd
already added to Debian's Qt, so we're already covered this time
around.

The xfonts-konsole package no longer exists in the testing or unstable
archives. KDE 3.5 changed how konsole provides its bitmap fonts - they
are more or less deprecated, but there is still a way to use them.

If you're a konsole 3.5.x user and wish to continue to use the bitmap
fonts formerly supplied in the xfonts-konsole package, then fire up
konsole, and go to Settings --> Font --> Install Bitmap. Then restart
KDE and configure konsole to use the desired font. Note that the bitmap
fonts will only be available for the user who ran the above commands,
since they are installed to "$HOME/.fonts".

Hope this helps.

I receive e-mails with attachments. Then I click right mouse button on
attachment and choose "Open with ...". Then I have to wait about 30
seconds before getting window with programs to choose.

Expected behavior: no delay between choosing an option and showing up
the window.
Reproducible: always.
Observed: not sure. Possibly some months (but I am sure it didn't use to
happen before).

this quotation:

KMail/KAddressBook std.vcf locking & duplicating problems

2006-04-15 Thread Adam Porter
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I've been having some annoying and strange problems with my
~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf file that seem to be related to KMail and its
locking of this file.

Every now and then I'll notice that all of my contacts in the address book are
gone; the book is just empty. If I look in ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/ I'll see
something like this:

~/.kde/share/apps/kabc$ ll
total 256K
drwx-- 2 me me 4.0K 2006-04-12 05:11 lock
drwx-- 2 me me 4.0K 2005-12-19 18:58 logos
drwx-- 2 me me 4.0K 2005-12-19 18:58 photos
drwx-- 2 me me 4.0K 2005-12-19 18:58 sounds
- -rwx-- 1 me me 40K 2006-04-12 05:11 std.vcf
- -rwx-- 1 me me 40K 2006-04-12 05:11 std.vcf__0
- -rwx-- 1 me me 40K 2006-04-10 20:26 std.vcf_1
- -rwx-- 1 me me 40K 2006-04-12 00:14 std.vcf__1
- -rwx-- 1 me me 40K 2006-04-11 23:45 std.vcf__2
- -rwx-- 1 me me 40K 2006-04-11 23:45 std.vcfsynC8b.new

Notice all the duplicated files and the dates and times on them. Then if I
look in the lock directory I see this:

~/.kde/share/apps/kabc$ ll lock
total 4.0K
- -rw-r--r-- 1 me me 11 2006-04-11 23:45
_home_me_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcfTxpHagmt

~/.kde/share/apps/kabc$ cat lock/_home_me_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcfTxpHagmt
22936
kmail

$ ps -A | grep kmail
18373 ?00:00:53 kmail

On the dates of the std.vcf* files and the lock file listed, I don't recall any
KMail crashes. But it seems like something is causing the lock to not be
removed. Then something (not sure if it's KMail and/or KABC) is duplicating
the file under several names.

This particular time, all of them have data, but in the past I've seen one or
more of these duplicate files, especially std.vcf itself, at zero bytes. Then
I have to restore it from one of the duplicates that still has the data.

I'm not sure what to file this bug under. Advice would be appreciated.

Bug#362753: kdebase-kio-plugins: NFS kio mount working ony for last mounted drive

Package: kdebase-kio-plugins

Hi all!

First let me thank you for your great jog with those packages!

Then, since the very last KDE upgrade, I got a weird bug: I have two
NFS drives in my fstab that are shown in my desktop.

But while previously, I could mount them without trouble, now if I mount
drive A, and then drive B, ony drive B is shown correctly as mounted,
and I cannot browse drive A via system:/media/nfs while it is well
mounted and working in standard path on my file system.

Kopete committing Debian patch; what should I do?

2006-04-15 Thread Adam Porter
Kopete is committing a patch that used to be only in Debian. Should I post
against the old, closed Debian bug, open a new one, or just e-mail someone?
What's the standard procedure?
