Bug#347946: Still a problem in 3.5.4-1+b1

2006-10-07 Thread Jan Berndt
Using Debian Testing, akregator have been upgraded to version 3.5.4-1+b1 and
shows the same behaviour as described above. It pops up the KDE-Crashmanager
saying: Das Program Akregator (akregator) ist abgestürzt und hat das Signal
11 (SIGSEGV) veranlasst. (in english words: Akregator crashed and send
signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Starting it from the Commandline gives the following error:
KCrash: Application 'akregator' crashing...
akregator: ERROR: Communication problem with akregator, it probably crashed.

The suggested solution to delete ~/.kde/share/apps/akregator or
~/.kde/share/apps/akregator/Archive didin't solve the problem. Akregator
still doesn't start.

Regards,
Jan

qt4-x11 override disparity

2006-10-07 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

qt4-designer_4.2.0-1_i386.deb: package says section is devel, override says kde.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in

 .
   * New upstream release
 - No longer includes CONFIG = ... debug in the mkspecs/qconfig.pri
   (Closes: #357136)
 - Fixes QFontDialog assert() failures (Closes: #380418)
 .

   * Enable Qt's new support for using the system's SQLite 3 library
 (Closes: #382238)

debug lib names. What was once *_debug.so.* is now *.debug. Ick.

   * debian/control: removed libqt4-debug-dev since now that the _debug

Hi,

first, the README says

Run the Qt Examples and Demos either by typing 'qtdemo' on the command line
or through the desktop's Start menu.

Since qtdemo is not part of the package either that part of the README
should be removed or else qtdemo should be included in the package.

Moreover, upstream's demos are missing as sources. Could you please
ship them at least as qt4-demos.tar.gz just as you do with the
examples?

Thanks,

Felix

Package: libqt4-dev
Version: 4.1.4-1.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

my package qbrew FTBFS on arm, it links against libqt4. The reason for the
build failure is a time out while running this command:
/usr/bin/uic-qt4 src/calcconfig.ui -o build/ui_calcconfig.h

I've talked to the arm porters on IRC, and they suggested that it might be
related to libqt4 not being compiled with -DQT_QLOCALE_USES_FCVT, which was
a needed fix for libqt3 on arm. From the changelog:

qt-x11-free (3:3.3.3-4.1) unstable; urgency=high
   * On arm-linux, configure using -DQT_QLOCALE_USES_FCVT. Seems to be a
known issue, mentioned in the 3.3.2 release notes, but nowhere in
the 3.3.3 sources. Great! Thanks to Paul Brook and Jan Niehusmann for
 the investigations. Closes: #270202.

The build log of my package qbrew can be found here:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=qbrewver=0.3.9-2arch=armstamp=1157506321file=logas=raw

Are you aware of this problem? Is anyone trying to compile qt4
with -DQT_QLOCALE_USES_FCVT on arm, to see if the problem can be solved?

Regards,
Tobias

Hello,

kwrite (and kate) suffer from upstream bug
  http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135045

When a file has its first line empty, as soon as one clicks on a
non-empty line without first modifying the file, kwrite crashes.

Workaround: downgrade, or delete empty line at top of the file.

Bug#391357: kwin: using focus follows mouse here

thanks

 Package: kwin

I can confirm that I use focus follows mouse here, and my
problem behavious with kwin 4:3.5.5-1 was consistent with
 what the other poster reported.

I have tried looking at the differnces between kwin3.5.4 and kde3.5.5. It is
the fix for kde-bug/feature http://bugs.kde.org/122425 that is the 'bad guy'
in this context.

Trying to revert most of it, I have now produced a working kwin. Patch
attached.

If anyone wants a working package, they can try
http://mirror.pusling.com/kwin_3.5.5-1_i386.deb

$ md5sum kwin_3.5.5-1_i386.deb
75ec07a6126721e7c97cd764d7056fad kwin_3.5.5-1_i386.deb

(if people wants to try on another arch, just drop this into debian/patches
and build)

KMail 1.9.1 seems to have a serious data loss bug with disconnected IMAP
accounts. It's been reported upstream at
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104956. I couldn't
find this mentioned in the Debian BTS already, so I thought I should file it so
Debian can track it as well, and prevent it from entering testing. Please
forgive me if
this isn't the proper thing to do. I tried to add
debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org to the Cc list, but it's not registered with the
KDE Bugzilla, so I can't.

This is pretty bad: korgac leaks memory so badly that its memory footprint grows
~30% every 5 hours. That means it grows to ~250 MB in about to days. This is a
new feature - I used to run korgac for months at a time without problems, but
I cannot tell exactly which version started to leak memory.

Or perhaps the leak comes from accessing a calendar on a webdav directory?
That's
another pretty recent change I've made (apart from updating, that is).

The current short description of konsolekalendar reads:

KDE konsole personal organizer

KonsoleKalendar is not really a personal organizer. You can only
access KDE calendars, but not e.g. address books. It is just a
calendar. Also konsole instead of console is wrong since this
program doesn't only work with KDE's Konsole. My suggestion would be
to use the first sentence of the konsolekalendar man-page:

KonsoleKalendar is a command line interface to KDE calendars.

Hi KDE-maintainers,

I've posted a grave bug against kmail a few weeks ago and now I've found
another one, which is similar but not quite the same. Again it's
dangerous-dimap and it's pretty easy to lose your mails when you move
folders.

I try to reconstruct it the best I can, maybe you create a dimap account
yourself with a few folders and fill them with some spam mails in order
to see the effect.

NOTE: I'm translating the german menu-entrys into english so maybe they
are not 100% correct, I hope you still get the idea.

Assume we have two folders A and B filled with a few mails

(1) Rightclick a folder A and choose move to.
(2) Now chose folder B where folder A should be moved to.
(3) Now you should see something like this:
   B (filled with mails)
   `-A (filled with mails)

The first problem: A is *not* moved into a at this stage -- allthough the
user thinks so, because he sees it. For the users point of view
everything seemed to work well. But:

(4) Now click Send Receive... A stupid panel pops up, asking what
kind of data is stored into this (which?!) folder: folders or messages.

Here are two problems:
(a) The user has absolutely no idea whats going on here, since
he thinks his folder has allready been succesfully moved.
(b) Under bad circumstances (happend to my today) you make more
than one move operation or even create a new subfolder and
then move some folder in the new created one -- now two of
those panels pop up -- one for the newly created subfolder
and one for the moved one. The problem is, that you cannot
see which one kmail means, because its not shown to which
folder the question is referring. If you choose messages
instead of folders for the first subdir all your mails in
this subdir are lost, but kmail still shows them! AGAIN:
kmail shows your mails are still there, but they are gone
because of the wrong decision.

(5) Now comes the funniest part. You've clicked Send Receive and think
all changes have been commited, but wrong -- you have to *restart* kmail
in order that the new mails are uploaded to the new folders. This is the
second time in one operation where kmails pretends to have done some
work but actually has not. Let's assume you forget to restart kmail and
just close it. After a while you start kmail on a different machine
(maybe laptop) but you are accessing the same dimap-account -- guess
what happens to your not-yet-uploaded mails...

I hope you where able to follow my steps please don't hesitate to ask if
I was unclear in certain points -- I know my english is not the best,
exspecially when I've lost some mails this day :)

Kind regards

Bastian

KMail 1.9.1 seems to have a serious data loss bug with disconnected IMAP
accounts. It's been reported upstream at
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104956. I couldn't
find this mentioned in the Debian BTS already, so I thought I should file it so
Debian can track it as well, and prevent it from entering testing. Please
forgive me if
this isn't the proper thing to do. I tried to add
debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org to the Cc list, but it's not registered with the
KDE Bugzilla, so I can't.

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.4.2-2
Severity: normal

Bastian

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.2-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Ok here comes some really nasty bug: I'm using two different
dimap-accounts and kmail seems to ramdomly delete some mails or even
a whole folder (this happened at least once).

I cannot (and don't really want ;) reproduce this bug but I think I have
some hints/observations for the case of loosing some mails:

When you move one ore more mails (esp. with attachments) from one folder
to another, kmails shows that the mails have been moved without actually
having them moved: When you now[1] close kmail and start another
instance of kmail on a different machine(!) you can see, that no mail
has been moved. When you now start your old instance of kmail then you
can see how kmail starts to commit the changes.

No problem so far, but what if the user thinks, that his mail has
already been moved (because kmail pretents to) and makes some other
changes on a different machine? I think this is acutualy the reason for
losing sometimes some mails (I've just yesterday lost 3 mails which I
moved from one folder to another).

Ad [1]: You can wait even loger, as far as I've seen, kmail only moves
the mails (at least when you move many or big mails at once) when you
close and restart kmail.

About the second bug, the lost of a whole dimap-folder, I cannot say
very much, it just happend and I think I don't have to mention, that
this (and the other bug of course) just *must not* happen.

Kind regards

Bastian

Bug#391672: quanta: Recommonds non-free and transitional phpdoc

2006-10-07 Thread Ben Burton
Package: quanta
Version: 4:3.5.4-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

I was cleaning out my system today and noticed that quanta recommends
phpdoc, which is a transitional package. Presumably this should be
changed to php-doc instead.

However: I then noticed that php-doc is in non-free, which is more of a
problem (and which is why I've marked this serious) -- policy states that
packages in main cannot recommend or depend on contrib/non-free packages.

I'm not sure what the correct solution is here; it's been some time
since I was working with quanta. IIRC, in the days when I looked after
it the recommends was to keep the documentation pane behaving itself.
What happens is that quanta ships with php.docrc, which provides the
index; thus the documentation pane gives you a full table of contents
that you can navigate around, whether the real docs are actually installed
or not.

I guess the easiest solution is downgrade this to a suggests, and leave
a note somewhere for the user to read explaining how to fix the file
not found errors in the documentation pane (solution: install php-doc).

Hmm. Actually -- having looked at this now, you get file not found even
if php-doc _is_ installed. This is because the
/usr/share/apps/quanta/doc/php symlink is broken (it points into the
old /usr/share/doc/phpdoc instead of the new /usr/share/doc/php-doc).
Thus even if the user does have php-doc installed, the documentation pane
will refuse to show it to them.

So.. apologies for the stream of consciousness here (and for what has
turned out to be two bug reports in one); I'm kind of rushed ATM. My
suggested solution is:

1. Change Recommends: phpdoc to Suggests: php-doc (note that both
   the relationship and the package name have changed);
2. Add a note to README.Debian explaining what to do if you get
file-not-found errors in your documentation pane (solution is to
   install the relevant doc package);
3. Fix the /usr/share/apps/quanta/doc/php symlink to point to
   /usr/share/doc/php-doc/html instead of /usr/share/doc/phpdoc/html .

Step (1) will be enough to fix the RC element of this bug, but steps
(2) and (3) are easily done at the same time.

Thanks - Ben.

Hi, more information is at:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135250

http://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=18055action=view

It appears that a change to implement a wish-list item caused the
problems I experienced.

Regards,

Arthur.
