 Hi,

Attempting to run kde3 applications that have kicker applets fails in the
 plasma toolbar. For
example, attempting to start knetworkmanager ends up with it running
 somewhere, but there's no
gui to control the applicaition. Previous builds of the kde4 packages had
 kicker gui/applets
appearing in the toolbar and working perfectly.

Attempting to start knetwork manager via command line returns no special
 errors.
The incatation used to start it is kinit knetworkmanager

So when you start a application, the tray bar icon appears randomly on your
desktop?
could you check you have a System Tray plamoid?

Bug#494427: plasma: emptying trash from the trash plasmoid does not notify about trash changes

 Steps to reproduce:
 1) Have an empty trash
 2) delete something from dolphin
 3) go to trash in dolphin
 4) click to empty trash from the trash plasmoid.
You will notice that the trash plasmoid still says that there are items in
 trash
and dolphin still shows those items. If you press f5 to reload dolphin, the
 items
will disappear but the trash plasmoid will remain like this forever.

The problem relies in the fact that dolphin calls directly ktrash to empty
 the trash
and ktrash in turn uses dbus to notify other processes about the changes.
However, in debian, ktrash from kde4 is renamed to ktrash4 and as a result,
 the kde3
version of ktrash is called. This sends the signal over dcop and kde4
 processes never
 get informed.

This patch should solve the issue:

After I installed the koffice-doc package from experimental I wanted to
rebuild the index. I started khelpcenter via kmail - Help - KMail Handbook
and in the Help Center I chose Settings - Build Search Index. A popup
 appears
and I'm marking Application Manuals in the search scope column. When I
click on Build Index the Help Center crashes.

A patch from kde3 needs to be ported to kde4 too to get this working. We
forgot about it until now, so thank you!
khelpcenter does its main job, so this is a important but not grave bug. I
will fix this in 4.1.1, but not planning to push it into kde 4.1.0 in unstable
(unless we get another fix for an important bug in this version). We are
barely providing docs in the kde 4.1.0 packages in lenny/unstable after all.

Btw, you want koffice-doc-html no koffice-doc, that is currently an empty
package :D

I think you completely missed the point here. Upstream, it works fine. It's
debian's patches that rename ktrash to ktrash4 and create the necessity to
also apply this patch! See patch 03_ktrash4.diff in kdebase-runtime.

Thanks,

I think you completely missed the point here. Upstream, it works fine. It's
debian's patches that rename ktrash to ktrash4 and create the necessity to
also apply this patch! See patch 03_ktrash4.diff in kdebase-runtime.

Yeah, sorry, I did read your bug report too quickly.

I think what we should do to solve this problem is to rename ktrash4 back to
ktrash as soon as kdebase 3.5 vanished from unstable.
Or do we want to support people staying with KDE 3.5, while updating
kdebase-runtime?

/Armin

Turns out the problem really is using the 'media' ioslave. Using just
 plain 'file' it works fine.

(I discovered this while reading another bug report covering a whole
range of issues related to this.)

Yeah, a lot of stuff does not work when using media://, so better closing this

Hi,

the current version does exclude java related package
from Build-depends on GNU/kFreeBSD.

Both GNU/kFreeBSD architectures (kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386) support gcj/gij.
Please enable java bindings by attached patch.

Thanks in advance

Severity: normal

Using kde desktop' extract contextual menu to decompress tbz2 files take
roughly twice as long as the equivalent tar xjf command. Top reports three
related running processes: ark, using roughly 50% CPU; bunzip2 also around 50%
and tar around 2%.
Noticed on a P3-850.
I know that the GUI animation comes with a cost, but 50% CPU seems abusive.

This has improved in KDE 4.1, still is slower (and it will always be), though.

i'm running superkaramba quite some time now but since about 3 or 4 days
superkaramba freezes quite often. i think the problem arised when i purged
the package python2.5 because nothing depends on it. freezing means the
desktop where superkaramba shows something doesn't redraw and the tray icon
is inivisible ( i can still see that there should be something because of the
gap, but it doesn't react on clicking).

Subject says all. I don't think it makes a lot of sense, to show the
kwallet config dialog in any DE other than KDE (it's weird if it e.g.
shows up in GNOME's settings menu).

Affected file: /usr/share/applications/kde/kwalletmanager.desktop
