Bug#520074: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2009-03-18 Thread Petr Salinger

Hi,

As suggested on my patch 77, I would prefer get rid of ucred declaration.
This piece of code is completely outdated and used on older glibc.

On GNU/kFreeBSD, it seems still an issue ?

For details, please take a look at kdesu/kdesud/secure.cpp.
There are three different implementation, only one of the
uses struct ucred. IMHO, in the clean way, the kdesu/kdesud/secure.h
should not use struct ucred at all, it should directly include

  pid_t pid;/* PID of sending process. */
  uid_t uid;/* UID of sending process. */
  gid_t gid;/* GID of sending process. */

and the implementation with struct ucred should copy these values.
The comment `struct ucred' is not defined in glibc 2.0. is not the
correct one.

I proposed a minimal patch, which should solve both linux and
GNU/kFreeBSD failure with pristine kdebase code.

afaics, the ftbfs isn't caused by ucred structure:
/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libjack.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libjack.la' is not a valid libtool archive

In fact, now it is. The kdelibs have been binNMUed to get rid of
libjack.la reference. See last build log from

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/build.php?pkg=kdebasearch=kfreebsd-i386ver=4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1
http://buildd.debian-ports.org/build.php?pkg=kdebasearch=kfreebsd-amd64ver=4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1
to get current failure reason.

Petr

If Freetype is built without subpixel rendering, we should use
the Qt 3 intrapixel filter instead of the bitmap convolution
when the Legacy LCD filter is chosen. (Closes: #448555)

It uses the old hinting mechanism and looks somewhat better, but subpixel
rendering is off. This is still worse than qt3.

(left - qt3, right - qt4)

It is even a bit worse here. The general appearence of the font is nice,
but the fringing is not. See
http://alioth.debian.org/~trigger-guest/color-fringing-with-qt4.5-2.png
and
http://alioth.debian.org/~trigger-guest/color-fringing2-with-qt4.5-2.png

Compared to what we have now I like blurred fonts we had with -1 much
better.

Greetings,
Armin

PS: No need to CC me. Just in case anyone wonders...

Are you sure that's related to this patch? Qt also added some patches in
4.5 to more closely respect the Fontconfig hinting settings. Could you
try switching between Slight, Medium, and Full hinting in your
Appearance settings? Previous to 4.5 Qt would always do full hinting if
subpixel antialiasing was enabled.

Samuel

Bug#448555: fixed in qt4-x11 4.5.0-2

I don't know what the patch should do and where the problem lies, but
on two Debian machines I tested the qt 4.5.0-2 packages effectivly
disable subpixel-rendering. This looks much better than the uglified
glyphs from 4.5.0-1 but still is not the desired result.

I'm assume there is (still) a bug in the patch, probably somewhere
around the call to convertRGBToARGB and the legacyFilter boolean.

Could you try manually reverting the patch to see if the problem still
exists? Alternatively you could comment out this line:

useLegacyLcdFilter = (lcdFilterType == FT_LCD_FILTER_LEGACY);

which should make the patch void as it should always use the old
convoluteBitmap() approach.

Assumption: perhaps we here have three different libraries trying to
work around FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING = false, namely
GTK/pango, kde3 and kde4, and in the past it worked because they all
did something similar.

Yes, it's a pity that each toolkit tries to do subpixel rendering in its
own way at the moment. Though even on Ubuntu (which enables
FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING by default) there are differences
between Qt and GTK's font rendering. I assume it's because of different
interpretations of the Fontconfig settings (GTK seems to switch legacy
LCD filtering off when full hinting is enabled).

Cheers,
Samuel

Bug#520240: Some KDE packages depend on an old kdebase-data

2009-03-18 Thread Michael Buesch
Subject: Some KDE packages depend on an old kdebase-data
Package: kdebase-data
Version: 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Some KDE packages like kcontrol, kdm or kicker (maybe more) depend on an old
version of kdebase-data on the PowerPC architecture. It looks like other arches
are affected, too. x86(64) doesn't seem to be affected.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  kcontrol: Depends: kdebase-data ( 4:3.5.9.dfsg.2) but 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1 is
installed
kdm: Depends: kdebase-data ( 4:3.5.9.dfsg.2) but 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1 is

  kicker: Depends: kdebase-data ( 4:3.5.9.dfsg.2) but 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1 is

This causes an apt-get dist-upgrade to render KDE unusable (won't start KDM
anymore). A temporary workaround it to install kcontrol, kdm, kicker, konqueror
and its dependencies manually with dpkg forced install.

Bug#520316: kopete: can't connect to google talk

2009-03-18 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
El Wednesday 18 March 2009 16:03:29 Nicolas escribió:
 Package: kopete
 Version: 4:4.2.1-1

[snip]

kopete can't connect to XMPP google talk servers. It hangs with the
status connecting. Sometimes (not always.. !?) it displays login
 failed for an unknown reason.

From terminal, I can see these last lines :

  JingleSessionManager::JingleSessionManager created.
 Creating the PushJingleSession task
 Object::connect: No such signal
 XMPP::JingleSessionManager::incomingSession()

May it be bound to jingle support ?

I have the same version of kopete, and have no problem connecting to Google's
Jabber. I do see the same as you in a console.

My connection config in kopete (though I suppose this is not the
 problem...) :
 [x] ssl
 [x] plain text auth
 [x] override default server :
   talk.google.com 5223

Checked with mine, no problem here. Perhaps a firewall is blocking you?

Regards, Lisandro.

kdelibs override disparity

2009-03-18 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

kdelibs-dbg_3.5.10.dfsg.1-2_amd64.deb: package says section is libdevel,
override says debug.
kdelibs-dbg_3.5.10.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb: package says section is libdevel,
override says debug.

Please note that a list of new sections were recently added to the
archive: cli-mono, database, debug, fonts, gnu-r, gnustep, haskell,
httpd, java, kernel, lisp, localization, ocaml, php, ruby, vcs, video,
xfce, zope. At this time a script was used to reclassify packages into
these sections. If this is the case, please only reply to this email if
the new section is inappropriate, otherwise please update your package
at the next upload.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.
Please INCLUDE the list of packages as seen above, or we won't be able
to deal with your mail due to missing information.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in
due course, but until then the installer will send these automated
mails; sorry.]

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It is due to recently added patch 77_fix_ftbfs_ucred_redefinition.diff,
in order to fix #517566.

Please, could you drop current 77_fix_ftbfs_ucred_redefinition.diff
and instead use patch bellow.

There is yet another problem, the current version needs hal even
for GNU/kFreeBSD. Hopefully, it have been partially ported.

Please could you stop excluding[!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64]
for libhal-dev and libhal-storage-dev.

Thanks in advance

Petr
