The problem occured when I installed Gwenview, KPhotoAlbum and digiKam. At this point I was running a KDE 3.5.5 setup and I used apt-get install gwenview kphotoalbum digikam This caused several other KDE packages to be updated to 3.5.9, among them kdebase-bin, kdelibs4c2a, kdesktop etc. Next time I started X with startx I got a black screen with a mouse pointer, nothing else. Clicking and keystrokes didn't cause any reaction. I first updated kwin from 3.5.5 to 3.5.9 wich didn't have any effect. After updating ksmserver from 3.5.5 to 3.5.9 the KDE session starts again and everything runs as normal. I think that there is a dependency missing between ksmserver and some of the basic KDE packages so that if those are update ksmserver gets updated too. --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.18.2 Debian Release: testing/unstable 500 unstablemirrors.ecology.uni-kiel.de 500 unstableftp.nerim.net 500 unstableftp.at.debian.org 500 stable 192.35.244.50 --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed =-+-= kdelibs4c2a (= 4:3.5.9) | 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-4 kwin (= 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+b1) | 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+b1 OR x-window-manager | libc6 (= 2.7-1) | 2.7-5 libgcc1 | 1:4.2.1-6 libice6 (= 1:1.0.0) | 1:1.0.1-2 libqt3-mt (= 3:3.3.8b) | 3:3.3.8b-5 libsm6| 1:1.0.1-3 libstdc++6 (= 4.1.1-21) | 4.2.1-6 libx11-6 | 2:1.0.3-5 libxau6 | 1:1.0.1-2 ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Version: 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2+rm Hi, You filed the bug http://bugs.debian.org/481584 in the Debian BTS against the package ksmserver. The scripts expects a local Xserver, which is false in Xterminal configurations where the xserver is on a remote device. Kdesession startup is slow because the script does scary things (investigationg and configuring fonts and doing Xserver manipulations. Took us 3 days in a 20 user Xterminal situation to figure out, that a missing local xserver has caused breaks and login failures. Because libcvsservice0 depends on cvs, it must be installed as wel. But cvs is not actually used by libcvsservice0 until it is needed, and it will function perfectly (doing nothing) without it. In fact Quanta did complain during startup, but only it because cervesia wasn't installed (again, I don't need it), not because cvs wasn't. The situation where a library is depended upon which itself recommand the package it actually use happen many times within debian, and so can be relied upon to be accepted by all. One example is Kerberos, an other is mysql. Both have runtimes libs which are often installed because of some dependancy even though neither kerberos nor mysql is installed. please change dependancy for cvs to recommand instead of depend. thank you. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.19.1vmware Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages libcvsservice0 depends on: pn cvsnone(no description available) ii kdelibs4c2a4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-5 core libraries and binaries for al ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc11:4.1.1-19GCC support library ii libstdc++6 4.1.1-19 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 libcvsservice0 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Version: 4:3.5.9-2++rm Hi, You filed the bug http://bugs.debian.org/405033 in the Debian BTS against the package libcvsservice0. Bug#523183: kpilot: Dependency on akonadi-server does not create needed resource agents
Package: kpilot Version: 4:4.2.2-1 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Dear kpilot maintainers, when installingt kpilot with akonadi-kde uninstalled, I cannot use conduits, because of lacking resource agents. This is also the error message you get by clicking on the akonadi trouble link in the config window. Installing akonadi-kde solves this issue, since it contains /usr/share/akonadi/*. I assume, that kpilot should depend on akonadi-kde then, instead of the server only. If I am not mistaken, this is probably true for all dependencies of akonadi. At least for kpilot, the hard dependence could actually be dropped in favour of a suggestion or recommendation: The backup functionality of kpilot is available and working without akonadi. (Just tested that.)
