Bug#561779: Markers for range selections not updated as necessary
package: kmail version: 4:4.3.2-1 severity: critical After several operations on a folder the marker for the currently selected message is not updated correctly. It seems that there are actually two markers, one for the GUI, which is handled correctly, and one for internal uses, which isn't. The latter one seems to be an index which isn't updated in several cases. Example: * Select the first mail in a folder. * Now change the sorting order. * The previously selected message is still highlighted by the GUI, let's assume that it now is at position 6 in the list of messages. * Hold the shift key and click on the message at position 3 in the list. At this point now, I would expect that messages at the position 3, 4, 5, 6 are highlighted. Instead, messages at position 1, 2, 3 are highlighted, while the highlight on position 6 is removed. Similarly, when deleting mails the first following mail is highlighted by the GUI while the internal index isn't. Concerning the severity and why this is not just an annoyance, the reason is that it is not always obvious what is going on when the start of the selection range isn't visible. I was just cleaning up some old mails and there was one from a source which I don't care for any more. I selected that, changed the selection to sort by author, scrolled down the list, shift-selected the last of them and deleted them. Since the start of the selection remained close to the beginning of the whole folder, far out of view, this just cost me a few hundred mails. Firstly if I type date +%z on the command line, I get + as the
response showing I am in the GMT timezone
If I create a web page with the following text in it

I get different results in different browsers
In Konqueror and Iceweasel I get hours = 1 time offset = -60
In Epiphany and Chrome under Linux I get hours = 0 time offset = 0
In IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari running Windows XP in a VirtualBox
on the smae machine I get hours = 0 time offset = 0
I believe the second results are correct, the Konqueror and Iceweasel
times are wrong. (I have submitted the same bug under Iceweasel)

Bug#561831: dolphin: Open Containing Folder doesn't open file browser but Okular

After Downloading a file in Iceweasel under KDE and right-clicking on the filename in the download manager, you can choose the popup menu entry Open Containing Folder. This should open a filebrowser for the directory this file was saved in. Instead it starts Okular, KDE's general document viewer, which fails with an error message, because it can't handle URL which point to a directory. After searching around I found a solution to the problem which is described in bug #490665. * install xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support * changed MimeType entry in /usr/share/applications/kde4/dolphin.desktop to MimeType=inode/directory;x-directory/normal; * rebuild mimeinfo.cache (which is used by Iceweasel) by calling 'update-desktop-database' Note: it may be possible other applications are assigned to the MimeType x-directory/normal (in my case 'kde4-kid3.desktop'). Iceweasel will pick the application in order provided in the mimeinfo.cache.
