Bug#570759: kpilot: Sync with PALMIIIc doesn't work since Kpilot moved to KDE4
Package: kpilot Version: 4:4.3.4-2 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** Hi, since KPilot was moved to KDE4, I wasn't able to sync my PalmIIIc anymore. I tried it often and hoped for a solution in newer releases, but it is still broken. Currently I tried to install a backup on my Palm, because I lost all my data on it, but I is not possible. :-( My Pilot is connected via /dev/ircomm0. I started Kpilot, choose "Backup" and start sync on Palm. After message that on Palm is no name stored and the backup has a name (my name) the sync process will begin, but get stuck on "Conduit kpilot-conduit-calendar" and Palm will finish the connection after some seconds. Bug#570762: kmail: Automatic Spellchecking doesn't work for German enviroment
Package: kmail Version: 4:4.3.4-2 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Hi, if I configure KDE for English language environment, KMails feature "Automatic Spellchecking" on writing new mails will work fine. If I switch keyboard to "ru" layout and KDE dialog prompting password appears then for every character I type into password field two asteriks appear. To reproduce it, you can run Control Center and in any administration applet click appropriate button to switch into admin mode and when dialog prompting root password appears switch the layout to different language and try to type something. Another way to reproduce it is KDE lock screen: try to enter password there with switched layout. Plain Qt programs do not suffer from this bug. Checked on Psi. I'm using Adobe's non-free flash player (as installed by the flashplugin-nonfree package), wrapped by nspluginwrapper to be able to run it in my amd64 Debian system. Unfortunately, most of the time I can't click in places of the flash animations that are supposed to be clickeable when wiewing them in konqueror, while they are clickeable on Iceweasel. Take for example the "Videos Being Watched Right Now" animation embeeded in [http://www.youtube.com/], that you can also see by itself at [http://www.youtube.com/active_sharing.swf]. Supposedly, one can click over any of the movie thumbnails to start watching them, but nothing seems to happen if yo do click on them. As another example, the music plawer window of last.fm is partially clickeable. Try [http://www.lastfm.es/listen/artist/Bersuit+Vergarabat]: the large play/stop button on the top left corner does work, but the smaller four buttons on the top right corner (a tag(?), a heart, a "forbidden" sign and an envelope) do noting. Because the same flash player wrapped by the same nspluginviewer do work as expected when using Iceweasel, I belive this bug has to be filled against konqueror-nsplugins. And because by large the main use of the konqueror-nsplugins is to enable a properly working flash player (which cyrrently means the nonfree one), and that a large proportion of flash animations are interactive (clickeable), I think this bug is important because it "has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone". Thanks for your work and have a nice day. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages konqueror-nsplugins depends on: ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6 core libraries and binaries for al ii konqueror 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-5 KDE's advanced file manager, web b ii libc6 2.7-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.3.1-9GCC support library ii libglib2.0-02.16.5-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libqt3-mt 3:3.3.8b-5 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++6 4.3.1-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-62:1.1.4-2X11 client-side library ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3X11 toolkit intrinsics library konqueror-nsplugins recommends no packages. konqueror-nsplugins suggests no packages. -- no debconf information --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Version: 4:4.2.0-1 The bug you reported has been fixed in KDE SC 4.2 --- End Message ---

In former versions, it often displayed events on startup, that were due while the computer was off. So it could be, that the crash actually happens while it tries to display an event. Other strange things I remember: - It complained about a missing sound file, when it was still kind of working. - I use awesome as the WM, set by the KDEWM environment variable - Normally the events were shown fullscreen, as it is the normal behavior for windows in my setup. Bug#257984: marked as done (kdebase-bin: (KDE bug 84606) kxkb group switching using just the Right Win doesn't work (+ugly workaround HOWTO))

Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 257984: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=257984 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: kdebase-bin Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: normal Tags: l10n, upstream I'm posting this here as per the debian-kde FAQ, following my upstream bug report, available at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84606 I hope it's worthy for some other Debian user that wants a workaround to this problem. I am using several layouts on my computer, and manage the switching only via the KDE layer - because I really like the sticky switching and the flag it provides. Because I am used to mapping the rwin key to cause the group toggle from the way it is set up on the Linux console (where I switch using the console-cyrillic Debian package), I wanted to set up the same thing over in KDE. In my XF86config, I *do not* do any fancy layout mgmt: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "keyboard" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection The natural way (using the path of the least resistance through the KDE GUI) didn't work, but I nevertheless achieved the desired result using an ugly hack. Detailed description of both follows. In layouts, select several layouts (> 1). (I tested with 2-5 different layouts out of the set of US, US intl w/dead keys, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, French, Italian and German.) I also enabled the sticky switching. These things are common to both the working and the non-working solution. Now the intuitive thing that doesn't work: on the xkb options tab, select "enable xkb options", "reset old options", then, in the "group switching" subtree, select "Right Win-key changes group". Apply the things, and try the Right Win-key. It doesn't work, but this is probably just an instance of http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59442 So kill KDE and restart, and verify the options are there in the kxkb. Right Windows key still doesn't do it. Ouch. Now the ugly workaround comes. Disable back the "group switching" subtree selection, and in the "Third level choosers" subtree set the Right Win-key to choose the third level. Now, apply the changes. Go to the keyboard shortcuts via your control panel (`kcmshell keys' from the command line). There, in the Global Shortcuts tab, add to the "Keyboard/Switch to next keyboard layout" shortcut a custom shortcut - and press the rwin key recording it. You should see ISO_Level3_Shift now as the alternative combination. Apply the changes. That's not all. Unfortunately, until you log out and log back in (maybe it's possible to just restart smth inside KDE, but I didn't investigate this), at least on my machine, with the default modifiers scheme, pressing rwin raises the application menu. When you log back in, you finally get what you wanted - right win changes the group, you can verify it with the flag icon in the tray, and it actually changes the keyboard layout. Without the level3 thing, this won't work because then rwin will just stay a modifier key, and currently the shortcut recording doesn't allow for modifiers-only shortcuts. Overall, the internationalization UI is very counterintuitive right now. It's a pity that there is no way to learn about the group switching shortcut from within kxkb, and vice versa, about kxkb when configuring the keyboard shortcuts. Here, however, I am unable to provide constructive critics because I'm pretty dumb in the UI design. The bug is consistent, and doesn't depend on which language and primary locale (I didn't try UTF-8-based locales, though) the local user uses. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.25-1-686 Locale: LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.KOI8-R Versions of packages kdebase-bin depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.2.2-2 KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.16-5 Library of functions for 2

The machine is an 21164A. Even when artsd "sleeps" and frees the sound device, I have two artsd processes running. Only one of them hangs, perhaps there's only one process left, but I'm not sure about that. Not relevant output in .xsession-errors. No relevant output in /var/log/messages. That bug report has been closed because it was "requested by submitter". After doing some tests using the version of konqueror mentioned on the reply by THR4K I still found konqueror crashing. I've included the generated backtraces, of some tests I did. Attached files: konqueror-thumbs-new.log: This was my first test after noticing my bugreport was closed; this backtrace was generated after I renamed a somename.pdf to .somename.pdf It may not be very useful, but after that I installed libxft2-dbg (Notes: using icon view with "Show Hidden Files" option disabled) konqueror-thumbs-dir.log: This time I tried to rename a somedir to .somedir. (Notes: using icon view with "Show Hidden Files" option disabled, it was generated _before_ installing libxft2-dbg) konqueror-thumbs-bin.log: This backtrace is similar to the above one, only things changed are memory addresses, x,y,etc positions, and similar values. It was generated when trying to rename somebinary to .somebinary (Notes: using icon view with "Show Hidden Files" option disabled, it was generated _before_ installing libxft2-dbg). konqueror-thumbs-new-again.log: This backtrace is the reason why I included the first one, this is the same somename.pdf being renamed to .somename.pdf with libxft2-dbg installed. It is easy to notice that this backtrace is similar to the above one, what makes me wonder why the first crash was related to libxft2. konqueror-thumbs-new-back-from-tree-to-icon.log: This is the last backtrace, this time I wasn't expecting a crash, I was using the "Tree View" when I tried to rename .somename.pdf to somename.pdf; after doing this it _didn't_ crash, it was until I switched to "Icon View" when konqueror crashed. After doing all the above tests I concluded that there was no reason to close the bugreport #384827, why? using diff on the backtrace from my other bug report and one of the next three backtraces that I attached to this report can be noticed the fact that the only differences are the memory addresses, x,y positions and similar data. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages konqueror depends on: ii kcontrol 4:3.5.5a-2control center for KDE ii kdebase-kio-plugins4:3.5.5a-2core I/O slaves for KDE ii kdelibs4c2a4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-2 core libraries and binaries for al ii kdesktop 4:3.5.5a-2miscellaneous binaries and files f ii kfind 4:3.5.5a-2file-find utility for KDE ii libacl12.2.41-1 Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr1 2.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio2 1.8-2 The Network Audio System (NAS). To reproduce this bug I: open konqueror, open some directory wich contains at least one file (at least one because I need something to rename), the file to be renamed must be 'previewable' (binary files doesn't crash konqueror), right click the file, rename, prepend a . (dot) to the file name, click outside the edit zone, CRASH. Notes to get a successful crash: 1.- file must be 'previewable', even .psd files and directories work (of course they must be marked to be previewed in the konqueror settings), but not binary-like files (because they can't be previewed). 2.- The view menu option 'Show Hidden Files' must _not_ be checked (if checked, konqueror doesn't crash). 3.- Use the 'Icon view' view (only tested on icon view and list view modes) mode. Appended file is the backtrace generated by kcrash. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-a64 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages konqueror depends on: ii kcontrol4:3.5.4-2control center for KDE ii kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.5.4-2core I/O slaves for KDE ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.4-3core libraries and binaries for al ii kdesktop4:3.5.4-2miscellaneous binaries and files f ii kfind 4:3.5.4-2file-find utility for KDE ii libacl1 2.2.41-1 Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-22.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr12.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio2 1.8-2The Network Audio System (NAS). I can click on it to activate the input for defining a word, but *the text is not displayed as I type.* Once I finish typing the word and type enter, the window pops up with the correct dictionary entry. It seems the problem only occurs when the kdict is docked on the panel which is configured vertically on left or right side of the desktop. When the panel is placed at the top or the bottom of the desktop, the kdict icon doesn't show up but the input field is always shown in the panel. Since I'd like to place the panel vertically, I hope kdict works in that configuration without the tiny glitch as well. This causes a loss of umlauts in received messages that come without a declaration. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 560957: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=560957 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: kmail Version: 4:3.5.9-5 Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss Identical to bug 158978 in Launchpad, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdepim/+bug/158978 for additional information and reports from other users. The bug was also reported to affect Kmail 1.12.1 in KDE4.3.1!! I'm using dIMAP for a Gmail account. On first connect in the morning I got a cryptic message complaining about non-readable contents on the IMAP server. All folders but my inbox were synchronized and the inbox was displayed as empty. Irritated by this I pressed the button a second time and the inbox was readable this time, but kmail instantly deleted all mails on the server (as it notified in the status bar) and then just downloaded the new stuff that had come in since I had left work the previous evening. It basically deleted several hundred messages in a few seconds. None of the subfolders were affected, though this has happened previously on my private account using another machine (only a subset of the inbox contents was deleted then, same Kmail version and setup). It seems like the server error caused Kmail to update the local cache (deleting messages that were there previously) - which it should not do if there's been only a transmission error and no real modification on the server side. Then upon the next synchronisation it updates the server by actually deleting all remote messages as well. Update 12/2009: This has happened twice in the meantime. Luckily I can access a second mirror of the IMAP so the deleted messages could be recovered, but others might not be that lucky. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kmail depends on: ii kdebase-kio-plug 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6core I/O slaves for KDE ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-0lenny3 core libraries and binaries for al ii kdepim-kio-plugi 4:3.5.9-5 KDE pim I/O Slaves ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libaudio21.9.1-5 Network Audio System - shared libr ii libc62.7-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.7-2+lenny1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.3.2-1.1 GCC support library ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn11 1.8+20080606-1 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libjpeg626b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libkcal2b4:3.5.9-5 KDE calendaring library ii libkdepim1a 4:3.5.9-5 KDE PIM library ii libkleopatra14:3.5.9-5 KDE GnuPG interface libraries ii libkmime24:3.5.9-5 KDE MIME interface library ii libkpimidentitie 4:3.5.9-5 KDE PIM user identity information ii libksieve0 4:3.5.9-5 KDE mail/news message filtering li ii libmimelib1c2a 4:3.5.9-5 KDE mime library ii libpng12-0 1.2.27-2+lenny2 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3-mt3:3.3.8b-5+b1 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.3.2-1.1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.9-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.12-3FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxi6 2:1.1.4-1 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.3-1 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1

I guess for the icon issue you mean #561902? I don't see any problem with the search engine dropdown list without libgnomeui-0 installed under KDE. Can't tell about external handlers without knowing what exactly to try. I'm unlikely to encounter issues myself as I run Lenny on my desktop systems and as I'm only a very light user of iceweasel anyway (only for sites that konqueror does not handle correctly). > The only one that really isn't strictly required in the libdbus-glib > one. > > > As iceweasel is supposed to be desktop environment independent, I urge > > you to reconsider this change. While Iceweasel is supposed to be DE > independent, it really isn't. Sad reality, but still reality. That is indeed very sad. One would hope upstreams, especially ones for important software such as ice*, would have more clue. > Now, as I said, there are several things that will break if these > libraries are not installed (note you can still prove me wrong), but > there are things we can probably do to make things better: > > - As said above, libdbus-glib-1-2 is not strictly necessary. > - IIRC, in 1.9.2, upstream switched most gnomevfs uses to gio, which is > in glib. In that case I personally don't think we can maintain iceweasel's status as desktop independent browser for new installations and we'll have to consider removing it from the common desktop task in tasksel. Given that the default browsers for the various desktop environments have become much more mature since Sarge, I don't actually see that as a big problem. It may even help relieve some of the pressure for CD1. Possibly we should keep it as the default browser for XFCE and/or LXDE. Therefore cloning to tasksel for further discussion. I'm leaving the original report against xulrunner as I personally still do consider this whole issue a regression when compared to earlier Debian releases, but I appreciate that your hands are tied. I hope that things will improve. Thanks, FJP -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#560957: closed by Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Hi Lisandro, I disagree with closing this bug. As similar bug reports like https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdepim/+bug/158978 and https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140443 indicate, a rewrite of the dimap system in newer versions of kmail makes this bug in Kmail 1.9.9 unreproducible with KDE 4.2+. However the bug continues to exist in KDE 3.5.10 and makes Kmail unusable unless I have a second backup IMAP server to recover deleted messages. You switched the bug status to "more information" - what else do you need to know? Apart from this bug I'm a happy user of 3.5 and not to eager to switch to KDE4 prior to the next Debian stable release - actually I consider staying with 3.5 even when Debian 6 is out. Any chance that the improvements in newer Kmail versions are backported to Kmail 1.9.9? Sincerely, Florian Aldehoff Am Sonntag, 21.
