Still experiencing this on KDE 4.3 / KDE 4.4?

Hi,

On Sonntag, 21. März 2010, Ralf Treinen wrote:

which is of course rubbish (and even syntactically wrong, as none is not
a legal version number allowed by policy).

Raising the severity as some tools just choke, ie kdebindings has the same
depends in sid currently, and this totally breaks piuparts.d.o, thus I have
disabled sid testing in piuparts for several weeks now.

cheers,
Holger

---BeginMessage---
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.8-1
Severity: normal

I select the last (lowermost) message in the message list pane and
press F5 to check the IMAP account for updates. Then the message list
goes hyperactive: First new messages are added (to the bottom of the
list in my case) causing the previous entries to scroll up. Then the
new messages are temporarily removed, and the list scrolls
back. Finally the new messages are re-added.

The resulting flashing, scrolling and updating is very
irritating. This happens even if there are no new messages. In that
case it scrolls back and forth a bit, and when it stops updating the
current message is no longer the one I had selected but the previous
one.

Repeatedly pressing F5 with no new messages causes the selection to
alternate between the last and next-to-last message. Clearly a mail
check should be a no-op from the user's perspective if there are no
changes.

I tried turning off threaded view, but it happens regardless of that.

Package: kde
Version: 3.5.10
Severity: important

KDE reports 3.5.10, but it seems it's a mix 3.5.9/3.5.10, as synaptic rather
reports 3.5.9. Here is the description:

Keyboard navigation with arrow keys into the KDE file selector follows a pretty
strange algorithm. Up and Down keys do sometimes select the Previous and
Next file in the list, but sometimes skip some of them and jumps directely
a few files before or after. This looks like bug #456933 reported for
konqueror.

The next/previous algorithm seems to be related to the length of the filenames.
Create a directory with the following files:
  a
  b1234
  c
  d123
  e
  f1
  g1234
  h12345678901
  i1234
  j12345678901
  z

then within kate invoke Open file, and navigate with keyboard into the file
list portion, starting with file a. If you press Down again and again,
you'll get:
  a c d e f g i j z
b and h are skipped, which are sensibly longer than a and g. But j is
not, suprisingly.

Once at z, press Up again and again, you'll get:
  z i g f e d c a
Here, j, h and b are skipped.

Note that changing the font to fixed/monospace does not change anything, though
I suspected it would.

Well, I'd be really interested in knowing the development process that lead
to such a strange behavior. That's really puzzling.

Yours for more information.

Bruno

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-4
Severity: normal

I have four cached IMAP accounts configured. All four accounts use
SSL/TLS, three with plaintext passwords and one with GSSAPI
authentication. The plaintext passwords are stored in the KDE wallet.

When KMail starts, it asks for the password to unlock the
wallet. When I enter the password, KMail shows an error dialog box
with the message that the process for the protocol imap://... has
died unexpectedly, referring to the IMAP server that uses
GSSAPI. After I press OK, KMail shows new messages fetched from the
other three accounts, but it apparently didn't succeed in connecting
to the one with GSSAPI. I have to refresh that account manually to
initiate a new connection and get the new mail.

The problem does not appear if I enter the password quickly, within a
few seconds after the dialog box appears. But if I wait more than
that (and I usually do, since this happens at login when many other
processes are starting), I consistently get this error message.

Something seems to time out while waiting for the wallet to be unlocked.

Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-2
Severity: normal

The multi-column mode of Konqueror (as file viewer) sometimes skips
over files when moving around with the arrow up and down keys. The
same files are skipped every time, but different sets of files are
skipped when using the down and up keys.

It seems files with longer names tend to be skipped.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a directory with three zero-length files names a, bbb and c.

2. View this directory in Konqueror.

3. Select multi-column mode.

4. Position to the first file a.

5. Press the down arrow once.

The selection will jump from a to c.

Bug#457436: marked as done (XDMCP stopped working)

Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I am running a system with an attached thin-client. Some weeks ago all logins
at the thin-client failed.
First I thought it is because I did not update the thin-client for ages (it
happend once before that terminals running older versions of X
became incompatible with the server, e.g. keyboard selection stopped
working, ...). Now I updated the thin-client system and noticed that logins
still fail.
I even tested locally with Xephyr and noticed that XDMCP really stopped
working. You can reproduce the bug as follows:
- enable XDMCP in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
- allow a login window for any host in /etc/kde3/kdm/Xaccess
- restart kdm and log in
- open a terminal window and call Xephyr :1 -ac -query localhost
- try logging in

On a Debian stable system this works instantly. On a Debian testing system I
see the login window and can type in the user name and password. When
pressing the login button the screen just goes blank for a moment and the
login window reappears.

PS: I tested the same procedure with GDM and there I even do not get the login
window anymore. So maybe the bug is somewhere deeper in the system than just
KDM...

Package: korganizer
Version: 4:3.5.9-5
Severity: minor

Hallo,

Every time I open KOrganizer it has an error in showing the names and numbers
of the day in the headers above the week days.
I have always a view where a ToDo list on the left of the window and the right
side of the window has the full week view. The headers of these week day are
displayed multiple times.
As soon as the window gets a refresh (changing the week or something else),
the headers are ok again.

It looks like that the headers are written, then the geometry of the window
changes which will trigger a rewrite of the headers again (wihtout clearing
the old headers).

As soon as I have the bug nummer of this bug, I will send a snapshot showing
the error.

Regards,
Vincent
