Bug#587824: kde-window-manager: After safe-upgrade all windows blank with OpenGL compositing turned on
Package: kde-window-manager Version: 4:4.4.4-1 Severity: normal I upgraded my box on Tuesday with whatever was due in safe-upgrade testing. Previously OpenGL compositing worked perfectly well with the AMD fglrx driver. Since the upgrade I can only run KDE4 with window compositing turned off, to xrender or with the radeonhd xorg driver. Other OpenGl applications seem to function correctly. I'm guessing it's an interaction between the OpenGL bits of the fglrx driver and KDW4's window manager that is causing the problem, but I'm not sure what. If I turn compsiting on with OpenGL the pop to confirm window is blank, so if you wait the 15 seconds it reverts back to xrender. Because xrender with fglrx and the radeonhd driver in any mode is too slow, I've turned compositing off at the moment. I can still run other OpenGL apps with out a problem under KDE4, glxgears is perfecly happy. fglrx details: ii fglrx-atieventsd 1:10-6-1 ii fglrx-control1:10-6-1 ii fglrx-driver 1:10-6-1 ii fglrx-glx1:10-6-1 ii fglrx-glx-ia32 1:10-6-1 ii fglrx-modules-dkms 1:10-6-1 xorg: ii xserver-xorg 1:7.5+6 ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.7-2 ii xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-6 ii xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.4.0-2 ii xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.5.0-2 ii xserver-xorg-video-dummy 1:0.3.3-2 ii xserver-xorg-video-fbdev 1:0.4.2-2 ii xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd 1.3.0-3 ii xserver-xorg-video-vesa 1:2.3.0-3 From my xorg.conf file: Section Device Identifier Sapphire HD3450 [ATI HD3450] Driver fglrx Option AccelMethodEXA Option MigrationHeuristic greedy Option AccelDFS true Option EnablePageFlip true Option EnableDepthMoves true BusID PCI:1:0:0 EndSection BTW, X crashes horribly without the BusID line. Bug#587824: kde-window-manager: After safe-upgrade all windows blank with OpenGL compositing turned on
reassign 587824 fglrx-glx 1:10-6-1 thanks Hello, On ketvirtadienis 01 Liepa 2010 23:41:37 Adam Trickett wrote: I upgraded my box on Tuesday with whatever was due in safe-upgrade testing. Previously OpenGL compositing worked perfectly well with the AMD fglrx driver. Since the upgrade I can only run KDE4 with window compositing turned off, to xrender or with the radeonhd xorg driver. Well, I don't know what you upgraded but there has not been a major KDE upgrade (be it squeeze or sid) for a week at least. On the other hand, new fglrx-glx has just migrated to testing. Other OpenGl applications seem to function correctly. I'm guessing it's an interaction between the OpenGL bits of the fglrx driver and KDW4's window manager that is causing the problem, but I'm not sure what. Due to the closed source nature of fglrx (and its long infamous track record of various bugs and poor quality), we cannot help you much here. But maybe fglrx maintainers will. If I turn compsiting on with OpenGL the pop to confirm window is blank, so if you wait the 15 seconds it reverts back to xrender. Because xrender with fglrx and the radeonhd driver in any mode is too slow, I've turned compositing off at the moment. I can still run other OpenGL apps with out a problem under KDE4, glxgears is perfecly happy. radeonhd is a dead project. Please try/use xserver-xorg-video-ati instead. -- Modestas Vainius modes...@vainius.eu signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
