[RFR] templates://phonon/{phonon-backend-null.templates}
Please find, for review, the debconf templates and packages descriptions for the phonon source package. This review will last from Tuesday, March 22, 2011 to Friday, April 01, 2011. Please send reviews as unified diffs (diff -u) against the original files. Comments about your proposed changes will be appreciated. Your review should be sent as an answer to this mail. When appropriate, I will send intermediate requests for review, with [RFRn] (n=2) as a subject tag. When we will reach a consensus, I send a Last Chance For Comments mail with [LCFC] as a subject tag. Finally, the reviewed templates will be sent to the package maintainer as a bug report, and a mail will be sent to this list with [BTS] as a subject tag. Debconf will show a question of this type even if the priority is too high or the user has already seen it. The behaviour of this datatype clearly conflicts with my intentions and current scripts. (My patch goes along with the request to revert to Type: note.) Christian PERRIER wrote: +_Description: Missing backend for Phonon The spelling backend is developerese - the standard English spelling is back end (and it's not that dictionaries are lagging behind normal usage; see e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_end;). Typically, this is an undesirable configuration which you might have gotten to unintentionally. This use of -based is a potentially confusing shorthand - things like KTorrent aren't derivatives of Phonon, they just depend on it. Re: [RFR] templates://phonon/{phonon-backend-null.templates}
Quoting Modestas Vainius (mo...@debian.org): I disagree. Warning is not an error by definition. It is not wrong to have phonon-backend-null installed if you know what you are doing and you are doing this intentionally. As I made some changes to prefer phonon-backend-null whenever libphonon-dev is installed (for buildds), I added this warning to avoid *accidental* installations of this package on the user systems. This is a grey area. error datatype has the advantage of being displayed differently than simple notes (which users often tend to skip too quickly). But, anyway, I won't fight that much on this..:-) signature.asc Description: Digital signature
