Bug#801781: kate: Error in `kate': free(): invalid pointer

2015-10-18 Thread Ignacio R. Morelle
I also encountered this issue when opening any document that uses syntax
highlighting following today's KF5 updates in testing. Upgrading kate and
kate5-data from 15.08.1-1 to 15.08.2-1 from sid seems to have fixed it for me.

I understand your frustration but situation is more complex than it seems.

We've been working on Calligra and made some progress despite limited time on
our hands. It is a lot of work because (as you may know) Calligra is a
sophisticated package with over 20_000 files and upstream changes
installation layout a lot.

However the biggest problem is that latest released version of Calligra still
depends on QT4 while some dependencies, notably "marble" and "libkactivities"
were updated to QT5. Most of QT5 dependendencies for Calligra are already
available in "unstable", thanks to Maximiliano Curia, but Calligra itself is
not yet ready for QT5.

I've started working on draft packaging of Calligra "master" for QT5 but
there are so many change that it is going to take a while... I'll probably
push my early draft to "experimental" branch of the repository later this
week.

> it would be really nice, if this issue could be solved sooner or later...

Given the complexity it will probably be "later" rather than "sooner".
Mostly we depend on upstream developers so there is little we (maintainers)
can do.

Perhaps we could maintain Calligra 2.9.8 in "jessie-backports" if we get
approval for it...

There appears to be a transition going on with the libkdegames source
package which seems to require sourceful changes in the rdeps. A
substantial number of rdeps have transitioned but a substantial number have
not and no bug reports seem to have been filed on said rdeps, nor does
there seem to be a transition tracker.

The new package names (kf5 versions) don't clash with the old ones and the so
files have different lib names, so a transition is not really needed, at least
not in the way that the release team tracks them. It would have been better if
we had upload the new lib with a different source name.

Agreed.

Is there any other package affected by this?

Yes, quite a few.

I find it curious that there are more significantly more broken
build-depends than broken depends, maybe some of those build-depends are
bogus.

As a deriviative maintainer I'd like to know what the rough plans and
timescales are here so I can consider the best way to handle this
downstream.

Do you have a preferred solution in mind?

IMO if it is likely that some packages will take significant time to
migrate to the new kdegames kf5 then introducing a new

libkdegames-kde4 source package is probablly the way to go.
