Bug#883435: akonadi-backend-postgresql: akonadictl start fails with Postgresql 10 installed, likely needs a rebuild

2017-12-03 Thread Diederik de Haas
Package: akonadi-backend-postgresql
Version: 4:17.08.0-1
Severity: important

Now that qt does support Postgresql 10 (#876421) I upgraded my
Postgresql packages to 10 and migrated the cluster (from 9.6).
After that I did 'akonadictl start' and noticed it was still using
Postgresql 9.6. So I purged that (and rebooted) and after that, akonadi
didn't want to start anymore. For some reason it's explicitly trying to
use pg_ctl from 9.6, but it should use the 10 version.

Konsole output:

$ akonadictl start
Connecting to deprecated signal
QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: Could not start database server!
org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: executable: "/usr/lib/postgresql/9.6/bin/pg_ctl"
org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: arguments: ("start", "-w", "--timeout=10",
"--pgdata=/home/diederik/.local/share/akonadi/db_data", "-o
\"-k/tmp/akonadi-diederik.IOXa0T\" -h ''")
org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: process error: "execvp: No such file or directory"
org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: Failed to remove runtime connection config file
org.kde.pim.akonadicontrol: Application 'akonadiserver' exited normally...

So my guess is that akonadi-backend-postgresql needs to be rebuild so
that it gets linked to the current Postgresql version, which is 10 (in
both testing and sid).

(Even better would be if it would use the most recent version, but that
may be stretching it)

Cheers,
  Diederik

Hi,

after some time my kde session stops redrawing some windows. I see this
mostly in konsole and firefox (which are the majority of my long-running
open windows). Clicking and typing is still working, but updates causes
by this are only seen after forcing a redraw by e.g.
minimizing+unminimizing, switching to another tab and back in konsole,
...
Sometimes a firefox window also becomes completely black (but title and
border are still OK), which can be fixed by minimizing and unminimizing.

This time it took 4 days since the last reboot and X session start for
the problem to show up for the first time.

The workaround from the corresponding upstream bug is

KWIN_EXPLICIT_SYNC=0 kwin_x11 --replace &

This is working, but not a permanent fix, it may need to be repeated
after some days since the problem reappears from time to time (within
the same X session).

I haven't played with any compositing options since I upgraded to
stretch, not sure if I changed something in wheezy or jessie.

Bug#883428: dolphin: Please provide the option to drag and drop files/folders

2017-12-03 Thread annadane
Package: dolphin
Version: 4:17.08.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

As far as I can tell, there is no drag and drop option for folders/files in
Dolphin. There's a variety of sorting options, but nothing that allows you to
manually rearrange via the mouse. I would like this very much, thanks

[Snip Pino's reply]

No, it's not possible. As Pino said it's already a big headache to have to
ship official private headers. Adding even more would require us even more
work to properly track them. So the answer is no.

It ought to really work with what Qt ships, not trying to outsmart Qt
this way. Why does qt5dxcb-plugin need these headers? If it really
needs them (IMHO it should just use what Qt provides, even as private
headers), did you ask upstream Qt to provide them or the equivalent API
for what qt5dxcb-plugin wants to do?

Right, if you really need then then work with upstream to make it public
API, or at least official private one.

Please note that we will not add private headers to other qt submodules
except we the Debian Qt/KDE team really need them.

qtsvg-opensource-src fails to cross build from source, because it
doesn't pass any cross tools to qmake. Now debhelper learned how to do
that for qmake, so using dh_auto_configure should be sufficient. Indeed,
it does make the configure step (but not the build step succeed). Using
dh_auto_configure also ensures that build flags are passed down and that
stripping is deferred to dh_strip, so this seems like a general
improvement. Please consider applying the attached patch.

Qt 5.9 swiched from the original PCRE to the newer PCRE2, but the build
dependencies in qtbase-opensource-src were not adjusted. So now
qtbase-opensource-src has an unused build dependency on libpcre3-dev, and
builds with a bundled copy of PCRE2 instead.

The libpcre3-dev build dependency should be removed, and perhaps replaced
with libpcre2-dev to pick up the system PCRE2. Note that Debian’s pcre2
10.22 is the same version as that bundled with Qt 5.9, but older than
pcre2 10.30 bundled with Qt 5.10: https://bugs.debian.org/883224.

Dear Maintainer,

   * QT-5.9.[1,2] (and future QT-5.10?) in the upstram do not support
PostgreSQL 10.
   * Futire Debian release (at least the current SID) includes PostgreSQL 10.
   * Users who use QPSQLDriver in there applications (e.g. who use
akonadi-backend-postgresql) are not able to work completely.
   * I suppose that a basic support of PostgreSQL 10 in QPSQLDriver will
provide (at least temporal) solution until QT team support in the upstream.

Package: akonadi-backend-postgresql
Version: 4:16.04.3-6
Severity: important

Just got an upgrade of my postgres packages from 9.6 to 10 and upgraded
my (main) cluster containing my akonadi database.
While kmail does seem to work*, it looks like all my mails are now marked
as unread :-/
So did the 'standard' thing of 'akonadictl restart', 'akonadictl fsck',
'akonadictl vacuum' and another 'akonadictl restart'.
I then noticed in my Konsole the following message:
"This version of PostgreSQL is not supported and may not work."

So, it looks like the current Qt version doesn't support PostgreSql
10.

* It looks like it actually doesn't work.
First the sending from bugreport itself failed with the following message:
SMTP send failure: [SSL: VERSION_TOO_LOW] version too low (_ssl.c:719). Do you
want to retry (or else save the report and exit)? [Y|n|q|?]? n

Although this seems like a reportbug problem and/or Qt issue.
So I then copied the message (text) reportbug saved to file into a new email,
composed with KMail, but when I tried to send it, I got the following error
message:
"Sending Message Failed - Kontact
There were problems trying to queue the message for sending: Unable to append
item flags."

So now I'm sending this bug report from another machine where PostgreSql isn't
updated yet.
I haven't tried the packages from experimental yet, but may just do so as
KMail seems to be useless on the machine that has PostgreSql 10 ...

Package: libqt5opengl5-dev
Version: 5.9.2+dfsg-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Different from other architectures, on armel and armhf
Qt in Debian is configured to use OpenGL ES instead
of full OpenGL.

Some OpenGL-related functionality in Qt is not available
with OpenGL ES, and Qt also offers direct access to OpenGL.

This causes some packages to not build with libqt5opengl5-dev
on armel and armhf, and while making them build would obviously
be the best solution that is not feasible in cases where
upstream does not provide any way to disable this kind of
OpenGL usage or has alternative OpenGL ES codepaths.

A package that does FTBFS on armel+armhf buildds after every
upload is not ideal - it wastes buildd resources and makes
it harder to find bugs between the expected FTBFS.

The Architecture: field does not support negative ! syntax,
and maintaining a completely list of all architectures except
armel and armhf in every affected package is fragile.

Please apply the following patch:

Hi,

The latest version of cantor uploaded to unstable disables the scilab backend
due to #749833 and the request from the release team to avoid blocking serious
bugs with the meta-kde packages (meta-kde depends on cantor, so the removal
from testing of scilab would, at least, leave some uninstallable pacakges that
meta-kde depends upon).

I'm adding this bug a as reminder to re-enable the backend once the bug in
scilab is fixed.

Happy hacking,

Hi! As you might know we the Qt/KDE team are preparing to remove Qt4
as [announced] in:

[announced]

Currently Qt4 has been dead upstream and we are starting to have problems
maintaining it, like for example in the [OpenSSL 1.1 support] case.

[OpenSSL 1.1 support]

In order to make this move, all packages directly or indirectly depending on
the Qt4 libraries have to either get ported to Qt5 or eventually get
removed from the Debian repositories.

Therefore, please take the time and:
- contact your upstream (if existing) and ask about the state of a Qt5
port of your application
- if there are no activities regarding porting, investigate whether there are
suitable alternatives for your users
- if there is a Qt5 port that is not yet packaged, consider packaging it
- if both the Qt4 and the Qt5 versions already coexist in the Debian
archives, consider removing the Qt4 version

= Porting =

Some of us where involved in various Qt4 to Qt5 migrations [migration] and we
know for sure that porting stuff from Qt4 to Qt5 is much much easier and less
painful than it was from Qt3 to Qt4.

We also understand that there is still a lot of software still using Qt4.

Don't forget to take a look at the C++ API changes page [apichanges] whenever
you start porting your application.

[migration] http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/packagingqtbasedstuff.html
[apichanges] http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/sourcebreaks.html

For any questions and issues, do not hesitate to contact the Debian Qt/KDE
team at debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org

The removal is being tracked in

Lisandro,
on behalf of the Qt4 maintainers
--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message ---

The package in experimental already switched to Qt5.

qttools-opensource-src does not cross build from source, because it does
not pass cross tools to qmake. Using debhelper should fix that.
qttools-opensource-src added an override for dh_auto_configure to work
around https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-30735, but that bug is
fixed now. Thus removing the override seems logical. Doing so makes the
configure step (but not the build step) succeed. Please consider
applying the attached patch and close this bug when doing so.

As part of the removal of Qt4's WebKit it is planned to remove
libplasma3 from buster soon, which requires removal of the
obsolete pykde4.

To be honest, this makes no sense. Qt5 already ships two sets of
headers:
- public headers, available in qtbase5-dev
- private headers, available in qtbase5-private-dev
Tracking the private headers is already a non-trivial workload on the
team workflow (for example, it requires extra transitions).

Yet, qt5dxcb-plugin needs more private headers than the private headers?
It ought to really work with what Qt ships, not trying to outsmart Qt
this way. Why does qt5dxcb-plugin need these headers? If it really
needs them (IMHO it should just use what Qt provides, even as private
headers), did you ask upstream Qt to provide them or the equivalent API
for what qt5dxcb-plugin wants to do?

FWIW, there are already platform plugins in Debian (plasma-integration
and lxqt-qtplugin), so indeed a DDE one could just use the provided
API too, public or private.

Bug#883375: qtbase-opensource-src: Please add private headers in /src/plugins/platforms/xcb/

2017-12-03 Thread Boyuan Yang
Source: qtbase-opensource-src
Version: 5.9.2+dfsg-4
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: pkg-deepin-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org

Dear Qt maintainers,

I'm working inside pkg-deepin team [1] to push Deepin applications into
Debian. Deepin use Qt and Golang heavily in their applications.

There's a special dependency for Deepin applications: package "qt5dxcb-plugin"
uses some really private Qt headers. Currently they bundle the header files
inside src repository [2] but that is apparently not optimal approach for Debian
packaging. Those header files come from /src/plugins/platforms/xcb/
directory in qtbase-opensource-src source tree.

Deepin applications (alongside Deepin Desktop Environment, DDE) need it to work
properly. In other distributions like Arch Linux and Fedora, package maintainers
already included them, either in a separate package ([4], in package
qt5-xcb-private-headers) or together in the qt5 private devel package ([5], in
package qt5-qtbase-private-devel).

My question is, is it possible for us to include (copy) those header files and
distribute them inside package "qtbase5-private-dev" so that package
"qt5dxcb-plugin" could build-dep on qtbase5-private-dev instead of bundling
them inside repository (like what Fedora did)?

Thanks,
Boyuan Yang
