Bug#904027: plasma-nm: [regression] agent isn't available after resume

2018-07-18 Thread Paul Gevers
Package: plasma-nm
Version: 4:5.13.1-1

On 2018-07-15 at 15:03:20 UTC+02 I upgraded my buster system. Since then
I am having issues with NetworkManager not being able to connect to WiFi
because the agent isn't available after resuming from suspend. I think
(but have no way to confirm) that it also failed right after the upgrade.

'''
jul 18 15:35:12 testavoira NetworkManager[13003]:
[1531920912.6830] device (wlp2s0): No agents were available for this
request.
'''

I am told that that the desktop should be the one providing the service
in the desktop session (I hope I phrase this correctly). So I think that
should be provided by plasma-nm, no idea how all this works as plasma-nm
wasn't even upgraded in that run.

Since then I have been writing my network password via $(nmcli agent)
but that is rather annoying.

Please reassign this bug elsewhere if you know where the issue is.
Please contact me if you need more information or debugging effort from
my side.

No, that is still true. For source packages.

However because of the way testing migration works, we allow a source package
providing new binary packages to keep the old ones in testing if they still have
rdeps (and they are co-installable). E.g. see how libicu57 is still in testing,
or libcurl3. Once all the rdeps have been updated and migrated to testing, the
britney removes the old libs.

That should be the case here as well. ffmpeg builds and migrates to testing
(together with all the rdeps that are rebuilt against the new version). The few
remaining packages that still link against the old SONAMEs will remain in
testing together with the old libs, and then eventually those packages will get
fixed or removed from testing, and the ffmpeg old libs will be removed too.

That means ffmpeg can start the transition now and migrate to testing, with qt
still linking against the old library. Then once ffmpeg has migrated, we can
start the Qt transition and get that rdep fixed, so that we eventually get rid
of the old "cruft" ffmpeg binary packages from testing.

You may not know of this "smooth transitions" concept because Qt can't use it.
In Qt land, all packages need to migrate at the same time because you are not
renaming your shared library packages, you just provide foo-abi-*, which are
provided by two different versions of the same package, and you can't have two
versions of the same package installed at the same time, whereas you can have
libavcodec57 and libavcodec58 installed simultaneously.

Cheers,
Emilio

Ah, in this case we are good :)

Indeed, that's true.

Right, our problem are private API users. This case would be more like Qt 4
and 5 coexisting.

Perfectly clear.

Well, that's pretty nice to read then :-)

Sorry for the noise!

Any reason the new ffmpeg libs can't migrate to testing while keeping the old
libs there? That should allow ffmpeg to migrate now, and the Qt transition can
be done afterwards with a fix for qtwebengine.

Also your link has an offer to backport the fix, for which I didn't see a reply
(so I don't know if that can't be done because it's way too intrusive to
backport).

Emilio

Quoting https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=888366#17

I assure you there there will not be more than one FFmpeg version in the
  archive at once :)

Now if that can be relaxed then we definitely have a solution.

Normally changes between point releases (5.10 to 5.11 in this case) tend to be
huge. Add to that in order to build that beast, having a team member on VAC,
means that we need to go to a powerful porterbox or wait many hours before
each iteration (yes, owning almost 10 years old hardware doesn't helps).

So we do what we can to make it trough official releases. But if someone has
the time and build power to fix 5.10 (the patches seemed to apply to 5.11),
pretty please go ahead.

Cheers, Lisandro.

plasmashell was crashing for me as well, with a segfault in dmesg

As noted in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=888366#43 in
order to fix this we need a transition to have the bug fixed.
Removing qtwebengine from testing to let ffmpeg transition before starting
with the Qt transition is a non go, as it would break many user's setups, like
oauth authentication for KMail, just to give one example.

So I'm afraid I see no way around this except tangling the transitions.

Hi,

Your package FTBFS with the upcoming version 3.5 of FFmpeg. In FFmpeg 3.5,
there are a number of API changes which will cause many packages to FTBFS.
For this reason I have uploaded an early development snapshot to experimental
before the 3.5 release in an attempt to fix some of these a bit quicker.
While 3.5 has not been finalized and the ABI is not stable yet, there should
not be any significant API breakages before the release.

Incomplete list of changes (based on looking at common build failures):
- Some fields in AVCodecContext have been removed and replaced with private
options which can be set using the av_opt_set* APIs
- Most CODEC_* constants have been renamed to AV_CODEC_*
- The buffer constants FF_INPUT_BUFFER_PADDING_SIZE and FF_MIN_BUFFER_SIZE
have been renamed to AV_INPUT_BUFFER_PADDING_SIZE and
  AV_INPUT_BUFFER_MIN_SIZE.
- The old resampling API provided by libavcodec has been removed. Use
  libswresample instead.
- The libavfilter/avfiltergraph.h header has been removed, include
  libavfilter/avfilter.h instead.
- The AVFrac structure (representing mixed rational numbers) has been
  removed.
