Bug#948764: pyside2: arch all FTBFS on 32-bit architectures.

2020-01-12 Thread peter green

Package: pyside2
Version: 5.13.2-2.2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Doing a full build (architecture dependent and independent packages) of pyside2
fails on 32-bit architectures (a build that only builds architecture-dependent
packages seems to be fine). I noticed this while working on updating pyside2 in
raspbian, but it's happening on the reproducible builds site too, so it's not
raspbian-specific.

https://tests.reproducible-builds.org/debian/rb-pkg/unstable/i386/pyside2.html

dh_installdocs -O--buildsystem=pybuild
dh_installdocs: Cannot auto-detect main package for python-pyside2-doc. If the
default is wrong, please use --doc-main-package
dh_installdocs: Cannot find (any matches for)
"pyside3_build/py3.7-qt5.12.5-64bit-relwithdebinfo/shiboken2/doc/html" (tried
in ., debian/tmp)

The fix is trivial, just a replacement of 64 with ?? in the path.

Thanks a lot for that!

Let's wait for some review, and then I will include it in the packaging.

Starting orca only wouldn't be enough. But enabling Orca startup in the
control panel would be enough. My patch is for the former case.

That shouldn't happen, but that could be an effect indeed.

Getting Orca to access the content of the application would be enough to
get the same situation as the users.

Ooh, interesting. From what the MuseScore people say, after start
of orca would be enough (also, AIUI, orca starts with the desktop
session or can be made to).

Would this have the effect of losing keyboard input in MuseScore
when orca is used, which is what one tester reported?

I’m under plain X11 with evilwm, no desktop environment, and did
not have that issue. (On the other hand, this means I have no
control panel to configure orca either. But I’ve only ran tests
on Debian for the benefit of upstream anyway…)

Any chance you can submit the patch to Qt Gerrit [1]?

I do not want to include patches not from upstream, and I cannot submit it
myself because the patch author must agree with the CLA.

The affected packages fail to satisfy their cross Build-Depends, because
their transitive dependency on breeze-cursor-theme is unsatisfiably. In
general, Architecture: all packages can never satisfy cross build
dependencies unless marked Multi-Arch: foreign or annotated :native. In
this case, the foreign marking is reasonable. breeze-cursor-theme
entirely lacks dependencies and its maintainer scripts do not have
architecture-specific behaviour either. Please consider applying the
attached patch.

Source: libksysguard
Version: 4:5.14.3-1
Severity: normal

The 'testsuite' autopkgtest for libksysguard is done with the build-needed
restriction, does not list any binary packages built by libksysguard as
test dependencies, and is basically a wrapper around dh_auto_test.

It appears this means it is testing a newly-compiled copy of libksysguard
built from the source code. This does not match the intention for
autopkgtests, which is that they test the binaries that are contained in
the .deb distributed by Debian:

*However* note that the tests must test the *installed* version of the
package, as opposed to programs or any other file from the built tree.
—
https://salsa.debian.org/ci-team/autopkgtest/raw/master/doc/README.package-tests.rst

In particular this allows an autopkgtest for an executable to be used to
detect ABI breaks in one of its dependencies, which could not be detected
if the executable was rebuilt against the updated dependency.

Similar concepts include GNU's `make installcheck`[1] and GNOME's
installed-tests initiative[2].

If the upstream test suite is designed to be run in a built tree at
build-time and test the recently-built binaries, it is likely to need
code changes to become suitable for running against installed binaries.

For example, many of the dbus unit tests have been adapted (borrowing
the GNOME installed-tests conventions) so that they default to
reading data files from ${libexecdir}/installed-tests/dbus and
finding dbus-daemon in the PATH, which means they can be installed in
${libexecdir}/installed-tests/dbus themselves and run from there in order
to test the installed dbus binaries. When run as build-time tests, the
path to the data files and the path to the dbus-daemon (among others)
are overridden by environment variables that point into the build tree.

If KDE doesn't already have a system for doing this, there's nothing
particularly GNOME-specific about the GNOME installed-tests conventions,
so those would be as good a design as any other. The reference test
runner, gnome-desktop-testing, is written with GLib, but there would be
nothing to stop KDE from implementing a compatible runner in Qt/C++ if
that was considered to be a problem - the specification for the metadata
that describes tests is rather simple, and is based on a .desktop-style
file format.

The autopkgtest for libksysguard appears to be unreliable, with intermittent
failures. The testing migration infrastructure can't distinguish between an
unreliable test failing due to bad luck and a genuine regression caused by
an updated package, so this is likely to stall packages' migration to
testing (it's currently affecting dbus). For now I've retried the most
recent failed test.

For comparison, a successful test run looks like this:

> /usr/bin/ctest --force-new-ctest-process -j2

> 5/5 Test #3: graphicssignalplotterbenchmark ... Passed1.12 sec
>
> 100% tests passed, 0 tests failed out of 5

An example of an unsuccessful test run:
