Bug#350930: klipper fills with graphic selections from OOo -- workaround patch
Package: klipper Version: 4:3.5.1-1 Severity: normal When using OpenOffice.org Impress and Draw, or GNUPlot, Klipper is flooded with graphic selections. Lubos Lunak points out this happens because their clipboard implementations lack the required TIMESTAMP target (ICCCM, section 2.6.2 at the end), so that Klipper cannot determine when the clipboard contents change. Lubos has provided a workaround while these applications fix their clipboard implementations (cf. http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=61402). I request this patch be included in Debian's next release of Klipper. The patch is available at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101087 or KDEbase SVN commit 504109. Bug#254287: kscd: doesn't use the working sound device
Package: kscd Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: normal Tags: sid For some reason kscd and cdplay report working -- no error report, the display shows tracks being played -- but no sound is produced. Playing the CD with xine and xmms works fine. I realize this may be a stupid bug report, as it looks like a configuration issue rather than an application issue. But configuration where? I tried using kcontrol, but everything is just working -- I don't see where the problem originates. It would be nice if kscd gave some clue as to how to solve this -- I read the manual and man pages, but they don't provide information about how to deal with a silent (but otherwise working) player. Bug#241731: kmix: Missing recording option for master
Package: kmix Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: normal Tags: sid When using xvidcap to make screen recordings, my ALI5451 sound card needs to have recording set to the right channel. In aumix-gtk, that channel is "Vol". In kmix, I believe it is "Master". However, when I use kmix, it does not give me a Master recording option. This may be sound card specific; card details below. I've tried all the recording options given in kmix, and none of them is the right one. I have to use aumix to set the recording channel. When the right recording channel is turned on, xvidcap will record the sounds generated by the computer, typically by the program it is making a screen recording of. In other situations, you may want to add sound to your screen recording using the microphone, so you need to be able to switch between these recording channels. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.24 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages kmix depends on: ii kdelibs44:3.2.1-1KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-22.3.16-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libasound2 1.0.2-1 Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0c102 2.7.0-5 client library to control the FAM ii libgcc1 1:3.3.3-1GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0-5 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpng12-0 1.2.5.0-5PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.2.3-2Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 4.3.0-5 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.3-1The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-64.3.0-5 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext64.3.0-5 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxine11-rc3b-1 the xine video/media player librar ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7 X Rendering Extension client libra ii xlibs 4.3.0-5 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g 1:1.2.1-5compression library - runtime -- no debconf information lspci -v :00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: ALi Corporation M5451 PCI AC-Link Controller Audio Device (rev 02) Subsystem: QUANTA Computer Inc: Unknown device 2201 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11 I/O ports at 1000 Memory at e800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2
Bug#214514: klipper freezes, but can be unfrozen by pressing Alt
Package: klipper Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: normal Followup-For: Bug #214514 I can confirm the report by [EMAIL PROTECTED] that klipper can typically be unfrozen by pressing the Alt key, and that the problem persists in 3.2. OpenOffice integration with the KDE clipboard is still poor. Here is how I reliably reproduce the frozen effect: 1. Open OOo Writer afresh and read in a document 2. Mark a few words by dragging the mouse over them 3. Press the copy button in oowriter's toolbar 4. Press the clipper icon in the systray You may get no response, in which case click again. In most cases, klipper will now freeze. If you're not getting the freeze, try marking a larger area of text, and repeat steps 3 and 4. The effect is most easily reproduced when you first start oowriter. After making some clips and reading them into klipper, the system seems to get unstuck. Try doing the same thing with a spreadsheet in OOo -- mark some cells, press copy, click klipper icon -- freeze. The freeze appears to be related to the interface between OOo and the klipper. Copy-and-paste behavior within OOo, if I'm recalling correctly, used to mimic Microsoft Windows behavior, in that text was not moved to the clipboard unless you pressed the copy icon. Now just marking text moves it to the clipboard, but there may be a remnant of the old behavior -- when you now click the copy button (even though you don't need to anymore), and then move to klipper, klipper freezes. Note that clicking on an item in klipper has the effect of removing all formatting from that text. OOo apps will conserve formatting during cutting and pasting, and so will klipper -- unless you select the item within the klipper menu. At that point, the formatting goes. In some ways, this is a bug, but I find it a very useful feature. If I want to strip text of formatting, which I often do as I go from OOo to html, I use this feature of klipper to get raw text. I therefore think that the current functionality is correct and useful, though it would be even better if there were an explicit option to keep or strip the formatting. In any case, something about this transition from OOo's old copy-and-paste behavior, and/or the half-way conversion feature in klipper, may be causing klipper to freeze when getting data from what OOo. Perhaps OOo is still keeping its own internal clipboard, and this is not properly synchronized with klipper. This additional detail to the original bug report is focused on OOo apps, and it may be that the problem is confined to those apps. I'll submit an update if I find it's triggered in conjunction with other applications. Integration with OOo is obviously a serious issue, as the OpenOffice.org suite is playing a major role in making the Linux desktop attractive to non-geeks. Bug#238094: kicker: Name not shown unless file has .desktop extension
Package: kicker Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: minor Icons copied to the kicker toolbar show a name or description on mouseover -- but only if the file has the .desktop extension. So for instance if you have mozilla firefox, mouseover will show the full pathname unless the file ~.kde/share/apps/kicker/Firefox has the .desktop extension. As normal usage is to populate kicker by dragging files from the desktop, and these desktop icons often don't have the .desktop extension, mouseover often ends up showing the full pathname. I don't see any reason to keep this behavior; files in ~.kde/share/apps/kicker are .desktop files by default and it would be nice to have the icons honor the name when the user enters a name in the Properties | Application menu. This is a good example of a bug that is completely opaque to a newbie, and makes the interface seem geeky -- why would an icon show the whole path? What would be useful is if the whole path could show inside the Properties dialogue -- that's where the user could learn how the system works. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.3 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages kicker depends on: ii kdebase-data4:3.2.1-1KDE Base (shared data) ii kdelibs44:3.2.1-1KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-22.3.16-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0c102 2.6.10-6 client library to control the FAM hi libgcc1 1:3.3.3-1GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0-5 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libkonq44:3.2.1-1Core libraries for KDE's file mana ii libpng12-0 1.2.5.0-4PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.2.3-2Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 4.3.0-5 X Window System Session Management hi libstdc++5 1:3.3.3-1The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-64.3.0-5 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext64.3.0-5 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxtst64.3.0-5 X Window System event recording an ii xlibs 4.3.0-5 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g 1:1.2.1-4compression library - runtime -- no debconf information

Bug#238082: konqueror: Bookmark edit "show in toolbar" fails on import
Package: konqueror Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: normal Tags: sid In konqueror 3.1.5, you can import bookmarks from mozilla / firefox and select which folders to show in the toolbar. This last step is broken in 3.2.1. When you select which folders to show in the toolbar, they get marked with a star, but they don't show up in the toolbar. By default, the top level entries get included in the address tool bar, but in the bookmark editing menu they don't get marked as having been included in the address tool bar (no star). Bug#238078: korganizer: Look and feel
Package: korganizer Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: minor Tags: sid Calendar in 3.1 had a 3D-looking appointment look that was very attractive. The current default colors are a vast improvement, but the flat look of the appointment entries (default light green) is a step backwards. In addition, text is now centered only in certain cases (when the dark time bar is present), otherwise it is adjusted left and I don't see a way to change it. Could we please get the great-looking 3D style back, and centered text in all cases? The day/week/month series of icons are clearly improved, but the printer and floppy icons are nicer in 3.1, and the subtle "go forward" and "go backward" icons have been replaced by garish ones ... I realize this is subjective, but there is a visual consistency to KDE apps that make them extremely attractive, and I think my suggestions and preferences go in the same direction: understated, effective blue graphics with a pseudo-3D feel... ;-) It would be great if we could skin our calendars -- though the only thing I'm really missing is the 3D look. The addressbook view is vastly improved. In the case of toolbar icons, could we get the option of selecting the icon, not just its size? As you KDE guys know, aesthetics really does matter! A lot of users will be attracted to free software because of your work. Incidentally, this KDE upgrade is absolutely incredible. Almost all the changes to the crystalsvg icons are great improvements (except konsole). I did a straight upgrade from 3.1 and haven't encountered a single hitch. Incredible bug checking -- this is really high quality work. You guys rock!! Package: lisa Version: 4:3.1.5-1 Severity: normal Thanks to Chris for fixing the pid file and init.d script problems! That's been a (minor) drag for ages. However, now lisa doesn't work at bootup. Bug#220378: kdelibs 3.1.4-3
Hi domi -- Sorry for the long delay; for some reason I didn't receive your reply. If the bug was not encountered by a lot of people, it may have been due to remnants of an unofficial 3.2. I've just reinstalled kdelibs kdelibs-bin kdelibs-data kdelibs4 4:3.1.4-3 without triggering the bug. Thank you for your help. I respond to your questions below but this is likely not worth pursuing and I suggest closing the bug. Perhaps the other person who reported the same effect could comment. Best, David 1 Have you done anything special to your installation like installing a(nother) version of Qt and/or KDE yourself or... ?
