Bug#374731: knotes: KNotes does not apply the text color selected in the settings dialog to the body of notes

2006-06-20 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: knotes
Version: 4:3.5.2-1+b2
Severity: minor

KNotes does not apply the text color selected in the settings dialog to
the body of notes. Create a new note. Enter some text into it's body.
Open the settings dialog of the note, then select dark blue background
and yellow text. The title will appear in yellow on dark blue, but the
text will be black on dark blue that is not so readable.

Bug#367365: quanta: Italics is inverted after upgrading in editor font settings

2006-05-15 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: quanta
Version: 4:3.5.2-2
Severity: minor

Italics is inverted in editor font settings after upgrading Quanta.
All italics fonts changed to normal and normal fonts became italics
in the editor window. I've opened the editor setting. Fonts are not
selected to be italics but the preview was italics and vice-versa.
I had to invert italics flag two times to restore the correct behaviour.
This is only a minor mistake and probably affects only users upgrading
Quanta but will not affect new users. May be related to a change in the
storage format / representation of font setting.

Viewing the message source of an opened message by pressing V in the message
viewer's window always succeed without crashing KMail.

The bug could possibly be related to underlaying libraries according the the
symbols in the crash dump above.

Bug#364881: kompare: Kompare displays wrong line numbers in target file after applying a change

2006-04-26 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kompare
Version: 4:3.5.2-1
Severity: normal

Create two example files to reproduce the bug:

a.txt:

1a
2a
- new line inserted here -
- new line inserted here -
- new line inserted here -
- new line inserted here -
3a
4a
5a - modified -
6a - modified -
7a - modified -
8a

b.txt:

1a
2a
3a
4a
5a
6a
7a
8a

Then compare them: kompare a.txt b.txt
Apply the first difference (inserted lines).
Line numbers will be wrong in the target file.
Apply the second difference (modified lines).
Line numbers of modified lines will be copied
from the source file (a.txt). This behaviour
causes very strange line numbering in the target
file.

This bug is usually harmless, but causes problems
when you try to remember positions by target line
numbers to be able to do changes later. You will
easily write down wrong line numbers and will not
be able to locate these positions in the merged
target file in the source code editor later.
This is especially flustrating when merging fixes
between code bases of similar applications.

In my opinion, kompare should renumber target lines
after applying each difference from the source file
and ensure that line numbers are continuous as usual.
The difference graphics will show the source of such
lines, so copying source line numbers is rather a
wrong idea than a feature.

Bug#362998: quanta: Quanta eats all of CPU and it's GUI freezes when creating new file in a WebDAV based project

2006-04-16 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: quanta
Version: 4:3.5.2-1
Severity: important

Create an empty, WebDAV enabled folder on a WEB server.
The folder is accessed via webdavs on port 1443 and
works fine with konqueror (webdavs://server.domain:1443)

Open Quanta on the client and create a new project.
Select WebDAV and configure the secure WebDAV access
on port 1443 as usual. The project should be created
successfully (but a bit slowly varying on your network
speed to the server).

Create a new index.php file in your project by right
clicking the root node in the project tree and selecting
new file. Enter index.php as the file name.

The index.php file will be created in the WEB folder,
but quanta will eat 100% CPU with a frozen GUI on the
client. It remains frozen after 30 minutes and must be
killed.

I reproduced this bug three times with identical result.
The bug occours when adding files to the project from
the WEB folder.

Bug#360291: Freezes on startup after indexing maildir, before displaying main window - narrowed down to kmailrc

2006-03-31 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.1-1
Severity: important

KMail crashed when clearing several thousand messages from the local Trash
maildir folder. I haven't able to start KMail since the crash, since it
freezes and eats 100% CPU on startup. I narrowed down this in time: KMail
indexes maildir folders (index files are regenerated if deleted), then eats
100% CPU before displaying it's main window. No disk activity during the
freeze. The kmail process can be killed with normal SIGTERM: killall kmail

I narrowed down this further. I've backed up my maildir folder and ~/.kde,
then deleted the contents of my mailbox. KMail regenerated the default maildir
structure, then freezed up. Then the maildir is restored and the
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail folder is deleted. KMail freezes again regardless of
the deleted configuration files. After deleting ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc
it did not freeze again, just started to reconfigure itself and asked the
usual user-specific post-installation questions.

I guess kmail is freezing due to an unusal value/syntax in it's kmailrc.
I'm going to attach my kmailrc to this bug as additional information after
submiting this report.

Thanks for your help, Viktor

Bug#358415: kompare: Kompare cannot parse diff output

2006-03-22 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kompare
Version: 4:3.5.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Kompare displays "Could not parse diff output" error dialog and displays
empty difference. The bug seems to be independent of the startup method
used. Starting Kompare with two files from a sheel or using it from
Krusader directory synchronization gives the same result.

Note: I use Hungarian locale, the above error message is translated back to
English. The bug seems to be unrelated to i18n issues, so I think it's not a
problem.

Bug#357396: quanta: Quanta crashes when typing source code

2006-03-16 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: quanta
Version: 4:3.5.1-1
Severity: important

Quanta crashes very often when typing source code. Machine instability has
been ruled out using several tests (memory, CPU, power, etc.).

CPU: Pentium 4 3.0GHz with HT support enabled
Kernel: 2.6.14-686-SMP

Other applications seems to work properly and does not crash, so overall
system stability is OK.

This bug could be related to parsing activity when typing new text.
Quanta crashes more frequently when typing block structures near the end
of the document before closing the block, statement or other syntactical
unit.

Several other WEB developers reported crashes with similar behaviour.
Changes made since the last save are lost when Quanta crashes,
so it is very annoying.

Typical crash dump:

Bug#354594: quanta: Unnecessary dialog box when inserting an already-existing file into a project

2006-02-27 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: quanta
Version: 4:3.5.1-1
Severity: minor

Copy a new file into your project directory or otherwise crate one.
Try to add the file to the project using the Files pane. Quanta will
ask you to confirm overwriting the file with itself. This is unneccessary,
since the file is already in place. The dialog should ot appear, since the
file can be safely added to the project.

Bug#353762: kmail: KMail freezes it's GUI when sending/receiving mail

2006-02-20 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.1-1
Severity: important

KMail freezes it's GUI when sending mails or receiving new mails.
This bug is especially flustrating when KMail filters mails through
SpamAssassing, SpamBayes or ClamAV, since each mail takes secons to
complete.

Try to write a new mail to someone and check for new mails with SPAM
and Virus filtering set up. Ensure you have some new mails to download.
The mail editor will suspend for seconds (depending on the speed of your
machine).

This problem exists for years and remains unsolved. The bug is increasingly
flustrating, since filtering time increases faster than available CPU speed.

Is it possible to move the time consuming processes out of the GUI thread?

Using a separate process or a dedicated KDE service could be a better
solution than freezing the whole application. Filtering should run with a
lower priority (around 10-15) to prevent unnecessary system hog when
checking for new mail.

See comments here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41514

YES, this is a duplicate bug-report. But I think re-reporting this bug is
essential, since usability of KMail suffers badly.

Bug#352279: kmail: "Mark as read" toolbar button does not work when selecting multiple mails

2006-02-10 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.1-1

The "mark as read" toolbar button does not work when multimple messages
are selected. This did work in pervious version (before apt-get upgrade).
The button turns to gray. This affects all toolbar buttons that mark
messages, like the red flag, mark as unread, etc...

Bug#351749: quanta: Quanta crashes immediately after saving document with Ctrl-S

2006-02-06 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: quanta
Version: 4:3.5.1-1
Severity: important

Quanta crashes immediately after saving the current document by pressing
Ctrl-S. The document is saved properly, the crash occours after the save
operation. A crash occours about once an hour during normal PHP development.

My hardware is stable, not overclocked nicely cooled. RAM is tested and
free of errors. My CPU is an Intel P4 @ 3GHz with HT enabled. I use a
misc 2.6.15 kernel with SMP support. Other applications seems to work as
expected.

This bug first appeared after an apt-get update on 2006-02-06. Traceback:

Bug#347485: kde-core: dcopserver process does not stop and prevents logout

2006-01-10 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kde-core
Version: 5:45
Severity: important

After using some applications a dcopserver process remains
active and prevents logging out from KDE. If the dcopserver
process is explicitely killed from a text console, then
the logout process continues and the normal login screen
appears.

Example: Start a KDE session. Start VLC (VideoLAN Client),
open an AVI file, play, switch to full screen, switch back
then close VLC. A dcopserver process sould remain running.
Try to logout from your KDE session. It won't be completed.

Switch to a text console (Alt-Ctrl-F2), then kill all
dcopserver processes with killall -9 dcopserver (assuming
other users are not connected at the same time). Logout
will continue.

If you try to shutdown your computer instead of logging out,
then the unkillable dcopserver renders filesystems unmontable
and can cause a long fsck on next startup. RAID arrays cannot
be stopped correctly, since they remain used. Poweroff cannot
be issued and the machine must be turn off manually.

The bug is induced only by a few applications. I can preproduce
the problem only with VLC for now, but this could be a more
general problem with dcopserver.

Bug#342457: kicker: Kicker usually crashes on shutdown and logout

2005-12-07 Thread Ferenczi Viktor

the one using kdelibs4c2 (without the "a" suffix). The bug
appears also on Debian Sarge with the same frequency.

Bug#341921: kmail: KMail is not installable, because it depends on the now conflicting kdelibs4c2

2005-12-03 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: kmail

KMail is not installable. Package manager removed when migrating my system
from kdelibs4c2 to kdelibs4c2a, then did not installed it again. I lost
the ability to send/receive mail in the usual way. Many other packages are
also affected, such as KMix and Quanta. The unstable repository seems to be
seriously broken, at least for me.

Bug#339386: SIGSEGV in many KDE applications, possibly related to libqt3-mt

2005-11-15 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: libqt3-mt
Version: 3:3.3.5-1
Severity: important

Starting KlineakConfig crashes.
Turning off VisualBoyAdvance plugin in KDevelop3 crashes.
Konqueror can crash after any operation.
Other KDE apps based on Qt crashes frequently.

I tested Debian stable and unstable.
I installed the whole Debian system two times.
I've tried multiple kernels and libc versions.

My findings:

The bug always causes SIGSEGV in libc, when libc function called
from a Qt3 class handling linked lists or similar dynamically sized data
structures. For example: QGList, array of QStrings, QValueList, etc.

Many other bug reports relates to this very annoying bug.
Affects virtually all GUI based KDE applications.

The bug is not affected by choosing between normal and SMP kernel.
The bug is not affected by choosing normal i386 or i686 optimized libc.
The bug occours on Debian stable and unstable distributions.

Typical traceback:

Bug#337789: libqt3-mt: Bug reproduced in KDevelop's documentation browser

2005-11-06 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: libqt3-mt
Version: 3:3.3.5-1
Followup-For: Bug #337789

I searched the documentations for xreadlines in KDevelop's
integrated manual browser (using htdig), then double
clicked Contents in the search results pane. KDevelop
crashed with SIGSEGV. Traceback is very similar and
related to QGList. The Qt3 library in Debian unstable
could crash the application when a virtual method called
on a (possibly empty) QGList object. Traceback:

Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1".

`system-supplied DSO at 0xe000' has disappeared; keeping its symbols.

Bug#337789: libqt3-mt: Crash in libc6 free() caused by a vtable function of QGList that kills KDevelop and others

2005-11-06 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: libqt3-mt
Version: 3:3.3.5-1
Severity: important

Several operations in KDevelop induces crashes with similar tracebacks.
Theses bugs are reported to bugs.kde.org, but they may have a common
root in the libqt3-mt package used in Debian unstable.
Common part (last lines) of these tracebacks:

 ...
 #47 0xb688895c in QEventLoop::processEvents () from /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3
 #48 0xb68fdea2 in QEventLoop::enterLoop () from /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3
 #49 0xb68fddcb in QEventLoop::exec () from /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3
 #50 0xb68e4305 in QApplication::exec () from /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3
 #51 0x0804e3c8 in ?? ()
 #52 0xbfa9b424 in ?? ()
 #53 0x08051c42 in vtable for QGList ()
 #54 0xbfa9b5e8 in ?? ()
 #55 0x0804e37c in ?? ()
 #56 0xb61ca134 in free () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6
 #57 0xb6177ec0 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6
 #58 0x0804d991 in ?? ()

Something in QGList crashes KDevelop and possibly other apps in some cases.
You could reproduce the bug under Debian unstable:

Open KDevelop and create a new project. Go to the Project / Project options
dialog. Select the "Extension modules" pane and deselect visualboyadvance,
then press Ok to save changes. KDevelop crashes for me at this point with
SIGSEGV. It does not crash if you press Cancel. For full traceback see:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115757

Please drop me a mail it the bug cannot be reproduced and this issue is
related to my system only. I use a custom SMP kernel with Intel P4 CPU
with HyperThreading support. I can send .config, do tests of everything
you need to track down this thing.
