Yes, it's libkcddb4 and kscd.

I don't think upstream are likely to accept these patches. My understanding is
that the version we're talking about is considered stable by upstream and so
they won't accept further changes. Their focus is on the next release (which
has moved away from the monolithic packaging). However I am not very familiar
with KDE upstream, and perhaps they would consider the patches after all. The
turn-around to get them accepted upstream would rule this out for wheezy,
though.

The patches themselves, when I write them, are backports from the git
repositories for kcddb and kscd. The reworking I need to do is mostly fixing
the paths to files in the diffs (since they've moved about). Most of the changes
are simple substitutions (mb4_* to mb5_*, etc.).

4:4.8.4-1 is now in unstable. I will most likely work on the patch on Tuesday.
There are presently three packages relying on mb3 still: kdemultimedia, goobox
and gnome-mplayer. The goobox patch is written, I just need to convince the
maintainer. Gnome-mplayer is yet to be patched so I'll be working on that on
Tuesday too. There's a slim chance we can get the migration to musicbrainz5
done in time for wheezy.

Thanks!

Bug#677252: would you accept a backported patch for musicbrainz5 in kdemultimedia, for wheezy?

2012-06-19 Thread Jon Dowland
Hi folks,

I filed #677252 against kdemultimedia as part of a larger effort to transition
all Debian packages away from earlier libmusicbrainz versions, and I've been
hoping to achieve this in time for wheezy.

All versions prior to mb4 (which was never packaged for Debian) use an older,
deprecated musicbrainz API which has a number of problems, not least with
multi-disc releases. So all double-albums are messed up for example.

(You can see the progress of my bugs/patches etc. at
)

I've looked at kdemultimedia and it looks like I need to adapt two backported
patches from upstream, which is mostly straightforward but will require a bit
of time from me to get familiar with KDE and KDE packaging, etc.

I'd really like to see this done for wheezy but it's not worth me embarking on
it unless there's a chance you'd accept the patch.

So, would you?  Please let me know ☺  It's 99% a sed-job (mb_* to mb5_*);
there are a small number of deprecated functions that need replacing but
I don't think kdemultimedia makes heavy use of them.

Many thanks!

Bug#513382: bug against mysql package for a non-autostarting mysqld

2009-10-17 Thread Jon Dowland
It has been stated several times in this bug that the mysql
maintainers have been approached about providing a package
containing mysqld that does not auto-start a global mysqld
instance.

However I can find no such bug in the BTS filed against
src:mysql-dfsg-5.1, archived or otherwise.

If such a big exists then this one should be set to be
blocked by the other; otherwise, such a bug should have
been filed ages ago.

Hello - with a fresh install of lenny's kde metapackage and
dependencies on a new amd64 system I cannot reproduce this.
I do not have access to the machine which originally had
the problem anymore.

Thank you,

Bug#469046: kcontrol: completely blank (nothing to configure)

2008-03-02 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-7
Severity: important

On a sid system, I have just performed

* aptitude install kde
* log in with KDE as the session (via gdm)

When I launch kcontrol, it is totally blank (as per
attached picture).

There is no console output for the invocation.

This reminds me a little of #244547. Looking at the
solution there,

un kdebase-libs(no description available)

However, if it wasn't pulled in by "kde", surely I
shouldn't need it for using kcontrol...

Bug#274363: still occurs

Just a ping on this bug to confirm that the behaviour still occurs and
the solution proposed by bug filer still works:

ii konqueror 3.2.2-1

I second the original reporter, the default association should be
changed.

Bug#252822: not sure this is a bug

2004-10-25 Thread Jon Dowland
I was stung by this 'change of behaviour' too, but I'm not sure it is a
bug. I think your workaround is in fact the correct thing to do in order
to get the desired result. You simply have to manually save your
configuration changes for them to last longer than the session.

Bug#264814: kcontrol, konqueror, kfind spawn crash handler on close (every time)

2004-08-10 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.2.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The packages kfind, kcontrol and konqueror (the only k-programs I have
installed) all throw a SIGSEGV on close, which is reported by the KDE Crash
Handler.

This is mildly annoying. The application works fine whilst it is open.

Of course the Backtrace tab provides no useful information for these packages
- if you think a backtrace is needed to solve this problem please mail me the
URL to the page which describes getting the packages with debugging symbols.

I imagine that this bug belongs on a different package e.g. kdebase or
something rather than kcontrol but I am unsure as to which. Since kcontrol
exhibits this behaviour I thought it would be a good place to start.

Today I purged all kde config files - previously I had only purged my own and

kcontrol). The above 4 bugs no longer plague me.

Thanks to the kde/debian team(s) - keep up the good work.

Bug#244547: further work

2004-05-07 Thread Jon Dowland
Hi,

In a further attempt to solve this problem I have purged all kde
packages and their configuration files; removed all local configuration
files; ensured my package lists were up-to-date ind re-installed only
konqueror (bringing with it kcontrol as a dependency).

The problem remains - there are no options for configuration.

This renders all kde web applications unusable, as I cannot configure a
proxy; and all kde apps in general ugly, as I cannot configure a style
:-)

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated as konqueror was my primary
web browser.

Bug#244547: additional information- full kcontrol output

2004-04-19 Thread Jon Dowland
Hi,

Sorry I don't appear to be on top bug-reporting form today.

I have realised that the second set of output was much smaller because I
had not removed ~/.kde/ the second time around.

Attached is /another/ set of output, this time when ~/.kde/, ~/.kderc,
and /tmp/kde-jon have been removed prior to starting kcontrol.

Hope this helps!

Apologies. Attached.

I must note that the output I received from the prior invocation of
kcontrol (where I forgot to attach the message) was more complete, alas
I have not kept a copy (I saved it to /tmp..)

Bug#244547: kcontrol provides no options for configuration

2004-04-18 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: grave
Tags: sid
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

kcontrol provides no options for configuration.

I have just updated the package, ensured no k* processes are running,
and removed ~/.kde/ and ~/.kderc.

The left hand pane contains names of categories, but no options appear
on the right hand when they are selected.

Attached is the output of running and closing kcontrol from a console.

Please advise whether you would like more diagnosis - I'd be happy to
experiment.

Bug#232898: more information

2004-04-16 Thread Jon Dowland
Hi,

I can provide more information on this problem.

If I right-click on my friend's name, I am offered a context menu
containing 'Rename Contact'.

If I right click on the same line, but in the little protocol icon, I
get a subtly different context menu containing 'Change Alias'.

The behaviour I have reported exists with 'Change Alias', but not
'Rename Contact'.

I would suggest that having two different options that claim to do much
the same thing as each other, is bad UI. It is not clear what the
difference is, why one works and the other doesn't, etc.

The context menu that is brought up by right-clicking on the protocol
icon is accessible via a sub-menu of the context menu that appears when
right-clicking anywhere else on the line.

I would suggest removing the context-menu that appears from the icon,
and making right-click actions on this area behave in the same way as
the rest of the line.

Yours,

Bug#233064: new bug, or rename?

2004-03-13 Thread Jon Dowland
Hi,

I think the xmms plugin should be split into a seperate package or
dropped altogether, and the dependencies altered accordingly.

I was planning on renaming this bug accordingly in light of your reply,
but I've been a bit busy...

Should I proceed or file a new one?

Bug#237113: kopete doesn't auto-scroll my chat windows down with a new message

2004-03-09 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: kopete
Version: 4:3.2.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: sid

Hi,

When chatting to a friend, kopete does not scroll the window down to the
bottom when I submit a message.

However, it does when he/she submits a message.

The previous behaviour was to have it auto-scroll to the bottom, for
incoming or outgoing messages.

I believe the old behaviour is more desirable.

Bug#237067: konqueror: buttons remain depressed after being clicked

2004-03-09 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.2.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: sid

When I click on a button on the konqueror toolbars, for example the 'back'
button, the button sinks, then raises up and remains raised after the click.

The other buttons are not raised by default and so the raised button
seems out of place.

This behaviour has only started to occur with the last package update.

Bug#237065: kcontrol crashes when trying to change a file association application

2004-03-09 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.1.5-2
Severity: normal
Tags: sid

When I attempt to make a change to the preferred application for
handling a file type, kcontrol crashes. Here is the console output from
a session where I attempt to set the default application to 'ggv' for
PDF files:

~$ kcontrol
kcontrol: WARNING: No K menu group with X-KDE-BaseGroup=settings found !
Defaulting to Settings/
~$ ASSERT: "pService" in ../../../kcontrol/filetypes/kservicelistwidget.cpp (29)
KCrash: Application 'kcontrol' crashing...

~$

This occurs only when I use the 'Add..' button to add a new
application. Shuffling the existing applications (currently, kghostview
and gv in this case) works ok.

Bug#234435: resolution

2004-03-09 Thread Jon Dowland
I had this problem. I think it is/was a dependency mistake- I issued an
apt-get install konqueror command and various kept-back packages were
installed which fixed this issue for me. (YMMV)

Bug#237062: konqueror embeds pdf/ps viewers despite my settings to the contrary

2004-03-09 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.2.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: sid

When clicking on a .ps or .pdf file from konqueror, I am asked a
question: 'Open ...ps? Type: PostScript Document'

My kcontrol settings are that such files should be displayed in a
seperate viewer, and that the viewer should be KGhostView.

However, konqueror opens the file in an embedded viewer in the same
window.

If I change my application preference to (say) gv, kghostview is still
chosen and embedded.
