2007-09-27 Thread Roman Czyborra
I now have the entire system running with LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 and it still
looks like crap: http://czyborra.com/yudit/rjabinushka.png

Bug#443865: kwin: UTF-8 is not supported in window titles

2007-09-27 Thread Roman Czyborra

Dear Sune:

How do I change my environment? dpkg-reconfigure locale?

Probably, yes. You might also want to want to look in kde control panel.

No, dpkg-reconfigure locale gives an error message and the kde control
panel can only set language and region but not character encoding.

- oh and you also need to install the correct fonts to get the glyphs
shown.

Why aren't they installed by default? Which packages do you recommend?

because they are not needed for most people?

Come on, we live in a global village now and hard disk space isn't scarce
any more. Debian should be user-friendly.

I have been told that the dejavu fonts might have the correct glyphs, where
bitstream vera only has latin.
ttf-bitstream-vera - The Bitstream Vera family of free TrueType fonts
ttf-dejavu - Vera font family derivate with additional characters

I had dejavu already installed and have added bitstream vera now but the
replacement glyphs for missing characters still show.

So the bug is still open.

Dear Sune:

Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15)

This doesn't look like utf8 at all. especially the iso-8859-15 part.
If you change your environment to utf8, I am quite sure that it will work.

Bug#443849: ksnapshot: Cyrillic pasted filenames gets turned into ?????????.png

2007-09-24 Thread Roman Czyborra
Package: ksnapshot
Version: 4:3.5.7-3
Severity: important

libqt3 can handle UTF-8 encoded Cyrillic just fine, but when I paste
a Cyrillic filename from Skype into KSnapshot it is pasted but
the file gets saved as ?.png which is corrupted.

Please turn on full UTF-8 support in KDE 4.
