Bug#391883: kontact: System often hangs (!) after opening 'New Mail' window

2006-10-09 Thread Thomas Uttenthaler
Package: kontact
Version: 4:3.5.4-1+b1
Severity: important

This happens not every time, but often. A few seconds after opening a
'New Mail' or 'Forward Mail' window (after having typed some letters),
the system hangs completely. The magic sysreq keys don't respond
anymore. This happens since one of the last upgrades of multiple packages.
The problem appears in all tested kernel-versions (2.6.15-18)

This is a resubmission of bug #388377 because of premature closure of
the former bugreport.

any help would be very much appreciated, regards
tom

2006-09-27 Thread Thomas Uttenthaler
Unfortunateley I had another crash today, so the upgrade didn't solve the
problem. Can you please reopen the bug?

Can I provide anymore information? I didn't succeed trying to get useful
information from a debugger, any hints?

best regards,
tom

Bug#327599: Fwd: Bug#327599: korganizer: alarm daemon causes periodic disk spin up in laptop mode

Maybe I file another bugreport about this tomorrow.

 Let's take a look.

  [1]
  korganizer alarm daemon only:
  yellow:/home/tom# dmesg -c
  korgac(4258): dirtied inode 3212122 (korgacrc.lockYIgbjb.tmp) on hda1
  korgac(4258): dirtied inode 3212159 (korgacrccWoWkb.new) on hda1

An aside: Do you mount /tmp as tmpfs? That might help if these are files
 in /tmp.

Aaa. I just removed this some days ago because I couldn't remember
what this was good for ...

it works much better now, although kmail still dirties inodes in
~/.kde/share/... . it seems, this behaviour only appears for cached imap
accounts (aka disconnected imap).

korganizer does sync a file outside of /tmp, it stops doing this when alarms
are deactivated.

best whishes many thx,
tom

Bug#327593: kmail: no fixed width message display

2005-09-11 Thread Thomas Uttenthaler
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.2-3
Severity: normal

kmail doesn't display the message content in a fixed width font, when
the appropriate option (View-fixed width, key: X) is selected. This has
been working with previous versions of kmail. KDE has set 'courier 12' as
global fixed width font.

Bug#327599: korganizer: alarm daemon causes periodic disk spin up in laptop mode

2005-09-11 Thread Thomas Uttenthaler
Package: korganizer
Version: 4:3.3.2-3
Severity: normal

I discovered, that the korganizer alarm daemon [1] causes a disk spin-up in
laptop-mode about every 60 seconds. this is not only annoying but also
lifetime limiting to the disk. the default value for idle timeout is 5
seconds (see package laptop-mode-utils). so there will be a spin down/up
cycle every minute. if this can't be avoided, it should be documented to make
users aware of.

tom

Bug#254220: kcontrol: kde-resources: looses read-only setting of LDAP resource

2004-06-13 Thread Thomas Uttenthaler
Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: normal

When setting up a LDAP resource, the read only field is checked by
default. When unchecking it, kcontrol looses this setting, the
next time I edit the resource, the field is checked again.

This causes, that an LDAP resource cannot be selected as standard
resource for contacts, because therefore it must not be 'read-only'.

best regards,
tom
