Bug#246310: kopete: An internal Kopete error occurred while parsing a message:
Ah, thanks Riku, missed that one. It's definitely the most relevant report. Quoting the third post of the KDE bug Riku linked to: "In Yahoo it is caused because the extended ASCII color information isn't all being stripped out when it should be. In Oscar it happens realted to the wrong codecs being chosen to decode messages. In IRC it happens for the same reason, but the wrong codecs are chosen based on different characteristics, since the server has no notion of codec. In the Crypto plugin it's related to the process of messages going through the process of encryption and decryption ... etc all very different." Wow, what a mess. Like KDE #75497, we should probably use this Debian bug as the "sink" for all related bug reports.

package kopete forwarded 246310 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75497 thanks Before filing bugs that are probably not caused by debian packaging, it is allways worth searching the kde bug tracking system, if the bug has already been filed and handled there. This looks a lot like KDE bug #67727 (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67727). You might want to read that report, since it contains possible workarounds involving setting locales (I myself can't reproduce it). The basic problem is that your friends' clients aren't sending encoding information, so Kopete is guessing, and doing so badly, for reasons themselves deeply rooted in the QT toolkit. If you do find a neat and easy workaround, please post it in this bug report, so others can make use of your wisdom. Hope this helps, Christopher Martin
