Indeed, I was just thinking of this as well, when I responded to your report. If you don't mind, I'll retitle this report, and close it when we upload a kdebase with the appropriate NEWS entry explaining how to upgrade kdm. Sounds like a good case for a debconf note to warn that the previous customizations need to be merged manually. > If this doesn't fix things, let us know. OK, I purged and reinstalled kdm and modified the ServerArgsLocal setting to successfully get my 100 dpi resolution back. -- Society is never going to make any progress until we all learn to pretend to like each other. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". The kdm upgrade scripts will not remove Xservers if it detects local changes, however, to give admins a chance to merge their customizations into kdmrc (have a look at ServerArgsLocal - you'll probably need an updated kdmrc to see this and have it work). If this doesn't fix things, let us know. Unfortunately, kdm upgrades suck exceedingly, with plenty of random changes to go around. It would really be best for users to purge/reinstall kdm 3.4.2, then re-customize from there. Cheers, Christopher Martin pgpulApaOoTej.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#326542: kdm: kdm ignores/overrides -dpi 100 setting
Package: kdm Version: 4:3.4.2-2 Severity: normal I have the following line in my /etc/kde3/kdm/Xservers: :0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] /usr/X11R6/bin/X -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp vt7 However, since my recent upgrade to the 3.4.2 packages, X no longer starts with a dpi of 100--it either calculates the real monitor dpi and uses that (e.g. 112x112) or falls back to 75 dpi. For whatever reason, it seems that my setting of -dpi 100 is now being ignored or overridden. The only way I can figure out how to actually get X to start with 100 dpi is to exit kdm and run "startx -- -dpi 100" from the console. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12.2 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages kdm depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2. 1.4.58 Debian configuration management sy ii kdebase-bin 4:3.4.2-2core binaries for the KDE base mod ii kdebase-data4:3.4.2-2shared data files for the KDE base ii kdelibs4c2 4:3.4.2-3core libraries for all KDE applica ii libc6 2.3.5-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:4.0.1-6GCC support library ii libpam-runtime 0.76-23 Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g0.76-23 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libqt3-mt 4:3.3.4+catchmedia-8 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++6 4.0.1-6 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-66.8.2.dfsg.1-6 X Window System protocol client li ii libxau6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-6 X Authentication library ii libxdmcp6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-6 X Display Manager Control Protocol ii libxtst66.8.2.dfsg.1-6 X Window System event recording an ii xbase-clients 6.8.2.dfsg.1-6 miscellaneous X clients ii xlibs 6.8.2.dfsg.1-6 X Window System client libraries m Versions of packages kdm recommends: ii logrotate 3.7.1-2Log rotation utility -- debconf information: kdm/stop_running_server_with_children: false * shared/default-x-display-manager: kdm kdm/daemon_name: /usr/bin/kdm -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
