Just this one, the others are Qt5 and should be sorted out hopefully in Qt
5.10.

Because developers. Yes, the API will certainly complain, but one can not
assume that every developer will take that complain seriously.

It really depends on when the OpenSSL 1.0 removal will really take place. If
it's by january 2018 then we are fine because:

- Maintainers will be forced to move or remove packages, with enough time to
make their packages re enter the archive is possible.

- Users will still be able to use the needed apps through stable (even if they
use testing).

It is. The other qt-related bugs are:
#828522 [i| |♔] [src:qt4-x11] qt4-x11: FTBFS with openssl 1.1.0
#859671 [i| |♔] [qtbase-opensource-src] qtbase-opensource-src: Please migrate

why silently? I would assume that if the SSL class is not availble that
it won't compile or won't provide a connection at all (say khtml works
only http then).

That qgis looks interresting. Do you want me to look at it or do prefer
to use a) as motivation to get people to move to qt5?

silently use unencrypted connections sound REALLY bad.
Either do it very *loudly* or let apps fail.

Hi Gudjon! I barely missed the mail.

The naming scheme comes from upstream. But it is indeed based on
recommendations, as you need to keep a proper soname.

I quickly glanced over Rex Dieter's mails, and the suggestions seems sane
enough.

Qt5Qwt is not bad, but may be like stepping over Qt's upstream's toes.

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

I think this is due to this upstream bug:

Fortunately the developers at Trolltech came to their senses and removed the
ui.h hack.
Unfortunately some of the developers new to Qt3 used it instead of properly
subclassing the widget generated by uic.

Qt4's documentation explains how to treat uic generated classes now:

You no longer have to, you can now use easier methods.

Hmm, that might be a bug in the Debian packages.

I seem to recall Trolltech dropping compiled-in jpeg support late in the
Qt4 development cycle, but I might not have updated the packages to
include it as a plugin.

Did you try using the Qt4 packages with jpeg images? If you did and it
did not work, please file a bug.

As long as Qt3 doesn't use alternatives (see #306879), they can't be
installed in parallel...

Re: Qt4

2005-07-05 Thread Yann Dirson
I have just installed the currently-available qt4b2 packages, and have
a couple of remarks. Maybe those points have already been addressed
in the upcoming 4.0.0 packages, but who knows.

- libqt4-gui and qt4-dev-tools depend on libqt4-debug. It is strange
(and annoying, given the size of that package)

- running qmake (eg. on fbx-playlist[1]) fails with "Unable to find a
Qt configuration.", and strace reveals it is looking for qt.conf in
various places. Surely the packages should provide a default one in
/etc.

Ok, sounds great!

Are they replacing the Qt3 libraries or can they be easily and safely
run in parallel?

I have some debs of 4.0.0 built but I need to test them. I think
they're kinda broken because some stuff has moved around and changed
since beta2. Hopefully I'll have something usable and ready to upload
later on today.

Brian Nelson filed an ITP (bug #306694, CCed) for qt4 a while ago, and has
experimental packages up at http://people.debian.org/~pyro/experimental/ ,
but they seem to still be debs of beta2.

Any progress on the ITP now that qt4 has been released?
