Bug#735432: new upstream

2014-03-31 Thread Jerome Kieffer
Hi,

The new upstream version (0.14) will include a debian-friendly source
tree which includes test images (this makes the source package 100MB)
and exclude all auto-generated files like from cython, sphinx, pylint,
epydoc, ... to keep it compatible with debian rules.

Once upon a time I read upstream packages should not be tailored for
Debian ... but that was a long time ago.

Bug#743131: FTBFS if default-jdk is gcj-jdk

 This is apparently not allowed by Debian Java Policy, according to
 https://lists.debian.org/debian-bsd/2014/03/msg00129.html

It seems confirmed by:

https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/java-policy/x84.html

Therefore, would that be an acceptable course of action for you if I
restrict the architecture set of glpk-java to those were the default JDK
is openjdk, and then downgrade the present bug to severity important?

Bug#743177: libvtk6 should conflicts with libvtk5.8

2014-03-31 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Mathieu,

thanks for bugreport. We should probably discuss how to
proceed with this transition. From my point of view it is
better to do as quickly as possible. Declaring 5.8 and 6.0
version is possible, but during transition time we will get
tons of removed packages. What do you think?

Anton

2014-03-31 10:58 GMT+02:00 Mathieu Malaterre ma...@debian.org:
 Package: libvtk6

 Clearly there is something missing here. libvtk6 can be co-installed
 with libvtk5.8. VTK API (ABI too) is completely incompatible in
 between those two versions.

 Typical scenarios that should not happen is an app linked against
 vtkCommon and vtkCommonCore. This gets even worst with python

 $ python
 import vtkCommon
 import vtkCommonCore

 I guess the same is true for java + tcl binding.

 So IMHO libvtk5.8 and libvtk6 should conflicts.

Sorry, done.

 Why do you use dfsg-prefix?

Just to remove some metadata from git and travis. The upstream release
is shipping it (.travis, .gitignore). I added them to Excludes in
copyright, as suggested by Andreas.

A better way seems to be:
Build-Depends: default-jdk (= 2:1.6)

which is satisfied only by arches having openjdk-6 or openjdk-7 as
default currently.

That way, if kfreebsd (or any other architecture) switches to openjdk as
default in the future, your package can be built again without changes.
 (Although - I'm hoping kfreebsd, along with all release architectures,
might be able to use openjdk-7 for jessie, greatly simplifying things
and making this change unnecessary).

In the meantime, the outdated kfreebsd binaries could be removed by
ftpmaster if you'd like the package to migrate.

Thanks,

Hi,

A better way seems to be:
Build-Depends: default-jdk (= 2:1.6)

which is satisfied only by arches having openjdk-6 or openjdk-7 as
default currently.

That way, if kfreebsd (or any other architecture) switches to openjdk as
default in the future, your package can be built again without changes.

Steven, the kfreebsd port was backported from OpenJDK 8 by Damien. In the past
we had to wait for several months for updated kfreebsd patches to get the
openjdk-7 built again on these architectures, despite pinging the kfreebsd
porters. How did that change? How can you make sure that this won't repeat
again? I'm not in favour defaulting that again to openjdk-7 or openjdk-6.

Package: inventor
Version: 2.1.5-10-17
Severity: important
Tags: patch upstream
Justification: fails to build from source

inventor fails to build from source on s390x with the following error:

| SoType.c++: In static member function 'static SoType
SoType::fromName(SbName)':

The problem is that inventor uses an harcoded list of 64-bit
architectures, which doesn't includes s390x. The following patch fixes
the issue:

Hi Maintainer

When building inventor 2.1.5-10-17 on Ubuntu Saucy's builders, the build
was successful on amd64 and armhf, but failed with the following error
on i386 and powerpc.

/usr/bin/g++   -L/build/buildd/inventor-2.1.5-10/debian/tmp/usr/lib
-shared -Wl,--whole-archive -Wl,-z,defs-L/usr/X11R6/lib
Decal.o  -lGL -lInventor -lInventorXt -Wl,--no-whole-archive -o
Decal.so
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc_nonshared.a(stack_chk_fail_local.oS): In
function `__stack_chk_fail_local':

(.text+0x10): undefined reference to `__stack_chk_fail'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make[4]: *** [Decal.so] Error 1

I found similar bug reports [1,2] and my understanding is that Decal.so
is being linked against the static libc instead of the shared libc.

The attached patch explicitly links libc by appending -lc to Decal.c++'s
LLDLIBS.

Regards
Graham

These have the SOVERSION correctly set in the library, don't they? The 5.8
libraries do

steve@riemann{~}objdump -p /usr/lib/libvtkCommon.so.5.8.0|grep SON
  SONAME   libvtkCommon.so.5.8

and while I don't have 6.0 installed, the list of files shows the library names
all end with .so.6.0.

Any application will contain within it a list of the SONAMES required, so
there is no confusion if both libvtkCommon.so.5.8 and libvtkCommon.so.6.0 are
present on the system.

 This gets even worst with python

 $ python
 import vtkCommon
 import vtkCommonCore

Well, this is a problem in that the python scripts don't or can't declare
which version of VTK API they conform to. I presume the trouble is that
import vtkCommon brings in a different API on 5.8 v.s. 6.0. If so, that is a
still a problem even if the two packages conflict: I may write a script for the
5.8 API, then upgrade to VTK 6 (removing VTK 5.8) and the script is broken.
