You see? "To UNSUBSCRIBE..." - read it and do as it says, and we would

second; you will keep getting 80 messages a day, as you say, if you don't

So, I found it in netwatch.c. Why do people create these files? I
have enough to do already, without wasting time looking for the source
of spurious files.

static unsigned char fillmac[] = {  0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0  };
static FILE *fish = NULL;
static char fishname[] = "/root/.fishingboat";
static int fishlen = 0;
static char *fishp;

Could a message go in the README.Debian file in netdiag that says
something to the effect of "netwatch will create a silly file,
/root/.fishingboat, don't worry about it." How about on the manpage
in the files section?

Hello,

You are on a public forum called "debian security". Please see the
bottom of this email for removal instructions. You was not added
without your permission as you had to reply to the email message, and
fyi it's not considered Spam in this case as the removal instructions

I and probably other on this list do not like to see vulgarity that
you are posting and I might add in violation of obscenity laws.

Hello,

You are on a public forum called "debian security". Please see the
bottom of this email for removal instructions. You was not added
without your permission as you had to reply to the email message, and
fyi it's not considered Spam in this case as the removal instructions
are included in each message. Had you taken the time to view this
you could have easily understood what you needed to do.

I and probably other on this list do not like to see vulgarity that
you are posting and I might add in violation of obscenity laws.

That's not really better ... it's not like packages are in competition
with each other and this one will be run out of business by everyone not
using it.

A better solution would be to file a bug report. I don't think it's
explicitly mentioned in the policy manual, but it makes sense that
unless a binary is named fishingboat or in package fishingboat, it
shouldn't make a .fishingboat (except maybe under
~/.packagename/.fishingboat). I don't think that sounds too
unreasonable, and it looks like it should be a very easy patch.

Why do people do this? [Was fishingboat in root]

2001-08-30 Thread Brian P. Flaherty
So, I found it in netwatch.c. Why do people create these files? I
have enough to do already, without wasting time looking for the source
of spurious files.

static unsigned char fillmac[] = {  0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0  };
static FILE *fish = NULL;
static char fishname[] = "/root/.fishingboat";
static int fishlen = 0;
static char *fishp;

Could a message go in the README.Debian file in netdiag that says
something to the effect of "netwatch will create a silly file,
/root/.fishingboat, don't worry about it." How about on the manpage
in the files section?
