Re: Dnsrecon packaging bug (usage of helper-script in packages)

2022-10-09 Thread Jay

Hi Samuel,

Thanks for sorting it, I would say if things can be changed to a
symlink for most things would be the best option and then keep it the
old way where explicitly needed would be the best approach.

Thanks,
Jay

Thank you for reporting this back to us, Jay.

I have uploaded a fix for this as "1.1.3-2", we have a few Kali folks
in this list and so they can decide whether they are gonna import that
sooner or wait for the automated import to kick in.

I think we might have more packages suffering from bugs like this, as
I know it's a pattern we have in a few other packages (the helper
script that "cd && exec").

We need to have a look at these other packages and see if it makes
sense to keep it or if we should change it to a symlink.
There could be cases where we need to keep it if the software expects
the working directory to be the same as the binary (if that can't be
patched).

For any replies: I suggest we drop the tracker email address and stick
to the team's list for now on this thread.

The tracker email address (team+pkg-secur...@tracker.debian.org
) is

usually only used for automated systems, but I got lucky in seeing the
message in my inbox.
I'll tweak my inbox rules to make sure I don't miss emails from this
address too.

Thank you,

FTR I agree, I think the symlink is a better approach due to it being
more straightforward.
