I get a similar - although less critical - response on an IPX running 2.2.13 and frozen. The same happened also with the standard slink install. After a fresh reboot and "before" logging into X (i.e., at the xdm prompt) I can switch to console mode by CTRL+ALT+Fx without any problem. When I am logged into an X session, it is impossible to switch. To do that I must log out from the X session and restart X with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE. I feel that things have improved a little bit with respect to slink, because then, when I was at the console, the system itself randomly switched to the xdm prompt (however, CRTL+ALT+Fx allowed to restore the console mode). I have seen similar messages in the debian-sparc mailing list archive, but I have never read any response on how to fix this starge behavior. Compiling a kernel
Ok, I am getting there I have installed the OS and it is running fine but when I go to compile a 2.0.36 kernel I set ARCH=sparc but there is only 2 menu items, is this the correct way to do a sparc kernel. -- Thanks, Aaron Daniels Network Administrator Nornet/Dataheart Phone: +612 6621 3215 Fax:+612 6621 5356 If nothing sticks to Teflon, how do they stick Teflon to the pan?

I had the same problem last month while i installed slink. My CD-ROM is a sony (don't remenber the model). The solution was to add this to the SILO prompt: SILO: linux max_scsi_luns=1 I hope that this will be your solution too. Bye Christophe PLASSCHAERT
Booting the installation system
Hi all, I have since found a CD-ROM that runs at 512b/s and the cd will now boot here is my next problem. now when I get to the lilo prompt and hit enter, it starts up, goes through a few devices and then gets to the scsi disk. after it detects the disk it says this; esp0: resetting bus... esp0: disconnect, resetting bus esp0: SCSI bus reset interupt esp0: SCSI bus reset interupt and this just loops indefinately. anyone know what this is and how to get around it? my system is Sparc5, Internal hard disk, external cd-rom, 32mb ram. -- Thanks, Aaron Daniels Network Administrator Nornet/Dataheart Phone: +612 6621 3215 Fax:+612 6621 5356 If nothing sticks to Teflon, how do they stick Teflon to the pan?
CDROM Problems Sun CD+ CDU-561(& others?)512 vrs 2048 bytes
I forgot to add in my first post that this problem of switching modes does not occur in RedHat 6.1 for Sparc. I have not looked at the source but I expect that they have a mode select call after initial boot from the floppy just encase it is needed as I get a seamless install even on my old SparcStation1. Perhaps someone in the know could add the couple of lines of code needed to put a cdrom in the correct mode. For cdrom's that don't respond to the mode select call it should not cause any problems and just be ignored. Peter Myers

Re: Hardware compatibility...

I know RH says it's not supported > but I'm curious to know why and what exactly it it. The kernel supports 4/330, however the redhat/debian installers and silo do not as of yet. I installed to disk using another machine and now netboot it. Anton
