Yes, but not Linux/SPARC.

If it were me, I wouldn't even try running Oracle through emulation. I'd
just sell the Sun box on ebay and get an Intel based machine to run
Linux on, where Oracle will run natively. Either that or run Solaris
(*gasp*) on that Sun box.

I'm running kernel 2.2.20-sun4u , I'll try 2.4.18-sun4u , to see if it
works, I saw that Eduardo Mendes was running this kernel.

OHCI compliant 1394 cards work. I use one on my Ultra30, with an 80gig
VST SBP-2 driver and a Dazzle Hollywood DV bridge.

You got lucky. Not only do I maintain Debian's sparc port, but I also
maintain the Linux 1394 tree :)

Works fine with my LAN of an Athlon PC, Sparc Classic, and Alpha
workstation. It uses an HTTP/web page interface for configuration, so
almost any browser will work well (not Lynx).

I don't use it as a DHCP server (I use my own), but I point my LAN's
DNS server at it for external names, and it forward-resolves them
through the servers it gets via the DHCP lease from ATTBI.

Routers

2002-08-23 Thread RAY Courtney
Hiya...

Does anyone have an opinion on a good router to allow me to connect both my
PC with W2K and my SPARCstation20 running Debian to my Cable internet
connection? I also want to set up a LAN connection between the PC and the
SS20.

In particular, has anyone used the Linksys 4-Port Cable/DSL Router? It
looks like a good deal on Amazon, but no mention of connecting non-PCs to
it.

Thanks...

RAY

FireWire/1394 cards

I guess this is more of a generic Sun hardware question than Linux or
Debian-specific, but are there any FireWire PCI cards that work on Sparc
hardware?

Also, if there's a better place to ask this question, let me know...

I hope your monitor is a big fat one that can handle the high refresh
rate the card is trying to push. I spent ages wondering why X wasnt
working, it would start and run fine etc. But then i tried the ueber fat

I haven't tested really recent boot disks but I have gotten the Netra X1
to work with Woody. The biggest problem is that the Ethernet devices are
discovered backwards in Linux than in Solaris.

>From what I remember:
eth0 in Linux is the one labeled 1 (on the back)
 and
eth1 in Linux is the one labeled 0 (on the back).

So if you do a net boot install off of the first (labeled 0) Ethernet
device, make sure you tell Linux that it is eth1 not eth0 like you'd
like to use to do the install off of.

Besides that they work like happy little Davicom DM9102A Ethernet cards
using the tulip driver.
