If I remember correctly the tftp boot images provided above don't
have a version of the tulip driver built in that supports the dmfe
cards built in. I think the drivers.tgz file contains a tulip module
which does work, but without working networking it's rather difficult
to get it onto the machine. (And if it did boot the network cable
would need to be swapped before containing since Linux numbers the
NIC's differently to the markings on the machine and the way Solaris
numbers them.)

I ended up removing the HDD and moving it to a PC, copying all of the
base installation files onto it, and then tftpbooted the image but
installed from HDD. (It wasn't quite that easy though since it took
me about 10 goes to get the correct stuff on the HDD and in the
correct place... plus I'd never used debian before - the installer is
pretty primitive, totally unforgiving and not very helpful when
things don't work...)

This is from the logs when I originally installed this machine (It's
now running 2.5):

I was using 4.2.3 up until 6 hours ago when I decided I wanted to play with
subversion. As for 4.3.x, it I looked at the debian-apache list from last
month and a 4.3 package should be coming down the line any time now.

 Oh yeah, I'm running sid.

I can't find .debs (cept for ipv6) and would _really_ like
to get to 4.3.X.

I said _gcc-3.2.3_ Nothing else will work for sparc64 and 2.6 kernels.
Install gcc and gcc-3.2 packages from unstable.

gcc-3.3.1 is on my system now and it gets a hang on boot too.

thanks for the quick response!

ok, i will test it now, "make image" works for both sparc32/64?

i try with both gcc-3.2.3 and gcc-2.95.4 on sparc32, on sparc64 only
gcc-2.95.4.

"make image" and then user arch/sparc64/boot/image to boot with instead
of vmlinux.

Also, what compiler are you using? It had better be gcc-3.2.3 (latest in
unstable).

sparc32/64 kernel 2.6.0-test1

2003-07-20 Thread Otto Solares
Hi ppl,

i managed to compile linux-2.6.0-test1-ac2 (linux-2.6.0-test1-mm* series
don't compile at all) but when trying to boot it gets an error about
image too long, indeed the image size is much longer than 2.{2,4} used
to be, is a kernel with the basics to boot and everything as modules,
so i try to strip vmlinux and now i get a "cannot find a loadable
segment in your ELF image" error when booting, any idea how to boot
this beast on sparc32 hardware? on sparc64 i get a freeze on boot...
i googled and find that osinvestor.com/sparc32 have patches for
sparc32 BUT is down :( i read too that sparc32 has no maintainer
at all :(sad because i got a lot of sparc32 boxes and i want
2.6 support on it (that's why i am testing)...

hardware: archproblem:
ss4 (sun4m) sparc32 image size too long
ultraE1 (sun4u) sparc64 freeze inmediately on boot
netrat1 (sun4u) sparc64 freeze inmediately on boot
ultra250(sun4u) sparc64 freeze inmediately on boot
classic (sun4c) sparc32 image size too long

all sparc32 boxes with sid and sparc64 with woody.

Any help?

hi!

does anybody know if a tftpboot.img with dmfe support (davicom) exists?

or, how does one build customized tftpboot.imgs?
