I've had mixed experince with seagate drives, (some had high infant mortality) and none with that model. You may be able to use it in the upper slot with the cover off. You could use a case designed for narrow with a sca-50pin adapter, but they sometimes fall off and you need a little extra room in the case. RE: does anyone care about sparc CDs for sarge?
Hi, can you please CC the necessary changes to the list at well ? I'm downloading today's image right now, so I can make appropriate changes here and then give it a try right away. I just tried Herbert Kaminski's `workaround` (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=243122) - without any luck, adding 'rw' to the kernel options doesn't work with an image 2-3 weeks old. (If it happens to work with the current image, I'll let you know.) -Alex > -Original Message- > From: Ben Collins [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf > Of Ben Collins > Sent: Sunday, April 11, 2004 6:40 PM > To: Joey Hess > Cc: debian-sparc@lists.debian.org > Subject: Re: does anyone care about sparc CDs for sarge? > > On Sun, Apr 11, 2004 at 12:28:42PM -0400, Joey Hess wrote: > > Sparc CDs for sarge currently do not boot. help with getting sarge cds to boot
Hi! We need a little help with getting sarge cds to boot on sparc, we are receiving reports like this one: http://bugs.debian.org/243122 but the thing is that we seem to be using the right parameters on the cds, at least acording to this bugreports. This is the silo.conf we are using right now in the cds: partition=1 timeout=600 read-only message=/boot/debian.txt default=linux append="cdrom devfs=mount" initrd=/boot/initrd.gz root=/dev/rd/0 # Standard boot images image[sun4c,sun4d,sun4m]=/boot/sparc32 label=linux image[sun4u]=/boot/sparc64 label=linux # Rescue boots image[sun4c,sun4d,sun4m]=/boot/sparc32 label=rescue append="init=/bin/sh" image[sun4u]=/boot/sparc64 label=rescue append="init=/bin/sh" Can anybody see anything wrong here? Any sugestion will be welcome. Regards... -- Manty/BestiaTester -> http://manty.net

People break things without knowing, or just don't care to test changes? How about just adding "rw" to the appended options? Also, isofs.b doesn't need to be on the CD (as I've said before). And finally, I am getting sick of your attitude towards ports and developers. It's the main reason I wont work on the debian-installer. I'm pulling the cd image now, and I will try the fix. If that works, I'll tell you and you can make the change in your debian-installer repo. -- Debian - http://www.debian.org/ Linux 1394 - http://www.linux1394.org/ Subversion - http://subversion.tigris.org/ WatchGuard - http://www.watchguard.com/
RE: does anyone care about sparc CDs for sarge?
I'm willing to help with the testing - I have an Ultra60 here where I can test installers. However I'm new to the Silo/Sparc world. (familiar quite well with Debian on i386 though.) ... If that helps. best regards, Alex Bartok > -Original Message- > From: Joey Hess [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Sunday, April 11, 2004 6:29 PM > To: debian-sparc@lists.debian.org > Subject: does anyone care about sparc CDs for sarge? > > Sparc CDs for sarge currently do not boot. does anyone care about sparc CDs for sarge?
Sparc CDs for sarge currently do not boot. Bug #243122. I've seen a lot of workarounds, and zero effort to fix the problem. If this problem remains in 2 weeks, then we will not ship sparc CDs as part of beta 4 of the Debian installer. Which puts us quite close to not including sparc CDs as part of the sarge release. If someone cares about this, you need to get busy and fix it. (I am not subscribed to this mailing list.) -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature
