pptpd encryption on SPARC
Hello, I am currently using 2.4.24 as my kernel and am trying to get a pptpd server running. It seems to work unencrypted on the stock kernel but that kernel does not have the mppe patch on it. I've tried and failed at building my own kernel. Does anyone have any ideas or a pre-built kernel with mppe? Shouldn't this kind of patch be in the stock kernel anyway? Thanks Eric

Kernel compile howto for sparc
Hello all I'm a long time linux user but all on x86. I recently started my foray into linux sparc when I loaded Debian unstable on my Ultra 5. I would like to compile my own kernel to stay on the bleeding edge. I've done this many, many times before on x86, I was just wondering if there are any gotchas for sparc. I know about lilo vs. silo, so booting the new kernel isn't that big of a deal. Do I 'make bzImage' like on x86? Is there a howto that covers this? Looks like it's working now. I'm *extremely* happy. Excellent! Thank you for following up. I suspect what should be done instead is: 1) The kernel, or hotplug, or some non-XFree86 package, should automatically run "afbinit /dev/fd0" at boot time. This issue I leave to debian-sparc to debate. 2) The XFree86 X server should be improved to: A) at best, detect that the firmware isn't loaded and issue an error message about this so there is something intelligible in the log other than the unresolved symbols garbage; or B) at worst, always warn all sunffb users about the fact that Elite3D, among possibly other Sun video hardware, needs to be initialized with afbinit first I can write a patch for the latter. I can't do the former without assistance. If someone could help me with a function call or two to ask the hardware if its firmware is loaded (if that is even possible), that would be most appreciated.
