the console from trying to figure out the current install state? Also any
ideahs on why it hangs?

Sorry. The mail system tags it on automaticly.
I'm running a sunBlade 150. I'm considering taking a sludge hammer to it
soon if I can't be helped. Is there a way to script everything or turn
off the feature that tries to figure out on what needs to be done next?

Which version of debian are you trying to install. Did you try the
latest d-i snapshot?
