Believe me or not. Your call. I fully agree. You also have to be careful with the last block of the disk too. From memory the primary cause of these problems (when Raid or LVM are concerned anyway) is the "whole disk" partition. The autoprobing code finds this and in some circumstances decides to use the whole disk rather than your partition with disasterous consequences. However, what could i do to check hardware (i think that this kind of crash comes from memory, it isn't ?), so how to use openboot to check the hardware and to be sure ? Re: USB on Ultra 10
Hi, Worked without any problems on my U10. That includes USB2.0 :) Haven't tried firewire yet but I'm soon gonna. Modules load without problem. random crash
Hello, I have bought an U60 (with two 450Mhz CPUs and 2Gb of RAM) recently. I have put in this server my old HD (Debian GNU/Linux Sarge) from my U30 and installed Linux kernel 2.4.27 with SMP support. However, one week after the startup of the server, the box crashs with a odd error message and i must reboot it. I tested it with Linux kernel 2.6.8. I would like to know how i could identify what is causing a crash randomly. What should i do ? Should i use OpenBoot (and how ?) or is there linux specific tools to do that (i have only physical access to the box the weekend) ? The first few blocks of an ext2 or ext3 filesystem are unused, so putting one at the start of the disk doesn't matter - the SILO code and the disk label in block 0 of the disk are untouched. A partition that's part of an MD array will have data written to it from its first block, so if it starts on block 0 of the disk then SILO and the disk label be overwritten. > NOTE: This is true EVEN if the first partition isn't an MD!
