Both issues should be resolved now in my latest image:

The kernel packages are now preset on CD (as can also be seen
from the larger image size) and partman-ext3 has been replaced
with a patched version.

Bug#812542: libcurl3-gnutls: Still has libgnutls-deb0-28 hard-coded in its dependencies

2016-01-24 Thread John Paul Adrian Glaubitz
Package: curl
Version: 7.46.0-1+b1
Severity: serious
Justification: breaks other packages

Hello!

libcurl3-gnutls has a hard-coded dependency on libgnutls-deb0-28 [1] even
though src:gnutls28 no longer builds the libgnutls-deb0-28 binary package.

Please update the control file to reflect the changes in src:gnutls28.

Cheers,

debian-cd has a list of extra packages to include per architecture,
it was missing sparc64 naturally. Just created a new section, added
a patched version of partman-ext3 to the image and will send a patch
for debian-cd shortly.

Image is currently building and will be ready in around 10-15 minutes
when my little 500 MHz UltraSPARC is finished with it :).

Glad you tried 4.4.0-trunk first.
I have no idea why first try fails, and second succeeds.

Rod, it is mkfs stuck waiting for user console input (like yes/no), you
can do partitioning (select not to format) and run console before install,
and run mkfs by hand to create filesystem, then go ahead and select install
system.

Ok, you're right. I got the same message. On the other hand,
silo-installer at least seems to be detected by d-i, it's suggests
installing silo.

Let's see what the log file will say.

I re-ran this.

Deleted all partitions on drive.
Selected Guided use largest..
Changed root from ext4 to ext3.

I tried the easier way first with the 4.4.0-trunk kernel, it does not
complain on bootup:

[ 90.331435] sr 0:0:4:0: [sr0] scsi-1 drive
[ 90.383487] cdrom: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
[ 90.450622] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: disabled, read cache: enabled,
doesn't support DPO or FUA

And it can mount the CD, with a small hiccup:

Jan 24 19:51:45 ristkon kernel: [ 221.264074] ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A
Jan 24 19:51:45 ristkon systemd-udevd[443]: Process 'cdrom_id --lock-media
/dev/sr0' terminated by signal BUS.
Jan 24 19:51:46 ristkon systemd[1]: Unmounting /mnt...
Jan 24 19:51:46 ristkon systemd[1]: Unmounted /mnt.
Jan 24 19:52:46 ristkon kernel: [ 281.642516] ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A

Actually, it mounts the CD after the second try (19:52:46),

Yeah, that's the current one. This version should absolutely
install a kernel. Really odd.

Currently testing with qemu-sparc.

So, it did not get stuck while formatting ext3/4? That's odd since
partman-ext3 has not been patched yet to call mkfs with "-F".

That shouldn't happen at all. It definitely should install a kernel as
it also did on raverin. Remember, we checked whether a kernel was
actually installed and it was indeed installed. It might lack the
installation of SILO though.

Are you sure you used the right image? When you boot the image, it
should say "This image was built on 2016-01-22" or so.

I tried installing this on a different unused machine today.

I get the error about ext4. I continued to let it run that way to see
what would happen. Seems to work until it gets to "Install the Base
system" where it gives me the error "No installable kernel was found in
the defined APT sources."

I went back and tried this with ext3 and got the same results off the .iso

This machine is similar to ravirin...

Both floppy and sr0 complains about memory allocation issues.
So this looks like a more fundametal issue.

Do you have the possibility to post a log with an older kernel that
works and this never kernel that fails - then there may be a clue
in what differs.

Please test the 4.4 kernel from experimental and see if that makes any
difference. If not, file a bug in the kernel bug tracker at
