Re: Elite 3D color alteration.
Hi, I'm confused ... I should have RTFMed a lot more. I've discover that mplayer provide an option to swap Red and Blue. I'm going to ask the mplayer team if the option could be enabled by default for the elite 3d (is it reasonable ?) but by the way you can specify the option : mplayer -vf rgb2bgr=swap (I hope this hint can save time for other people facing this issue) I fear/'m pleased I have a lot more to learn concerning Linux and the Sun hardware ;) Thanks again. kind regards, Aurelien David S. Hi, thanks for you answers. indeed the colordepth doesn't matter (I tested from 8bits to 24bits) and it seems that red and blue are swapped with mplayer. with vlc colors are right but regarding the cpu load it seems that this player uses software rendering rather than my card. What should I do ? Is there something I can change to correct the rgb order ? (Is that the colormap I found in the web ?) hey Jon ! Are you using afbinit to load the AFB microcode at startup ? seems that not using that firmware makes the x server crashes. (screen not found reminds me something I encountered) you should apt-get afbinit, download afb.ucode from sun and copy it in /usr/lib don't forget to fix /etc/init.d/afbinit since it doesn't detect the card. in fact the script grep the dmesg to find Elite 3d but that's AFB that is mentionned. I've juste replaced the script with a standard afbinit command (I don't remember, so man afbinit). kind regards, Aurélien Ben Collins wrote: What color depth are you running at? Re: Elite 3D m6 support.
Hi, I hope I'm not posting a silly question ... I googlized several hours but wasn't able to find a proper answer. I've just bought an Ultra60 workstation equiped with an Elite 3D m6 graphic card. Debian runs almost flawlessly but I can't succeed in installing the graphic/video extensions. For instance I'm not able to find Xv extension or DRI. I've read that a partial support is already included in the afb microcode but I don't know what to do... (and if it's true) The afb microcode is successfully loaded at every boot on my computer thanks to afbinit (if not, no X at all). what else should I do ? shall I conclude that there's no support since the graphic card is a bit ... closed ? Thanks in advance. Aurélien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: No sound in Ultra 5 running Debian 3.1
Hello, afaik there are some issues using alsa friends. Maybe it's that kind of problem you're facing. (I don't understand what is the beep you mentionned) Sound works well on my U5 but only when I enable the sparcaudio drivers and with no soundcard support in the kernel. Moreover I use aumix and audioctl to control the mixer. And only few players do their job (hum .. xmms works only when I launch gqmpeg just before). I posted an answer few months ago for the same sound-on-u5 issue. I might be wrong and not up-to-date but I hope it will help you. For further hints ... as far as I remember I wrote some here: http://ginfo.egim-mrs.fr/article.php3?id_article=36 kind regards, Aurélien kwy wrote: Hi, I am a newbie to Debian Linux on Sparc. I cannot change the sound volume in Speaker icon at the top right hand side corner of the GNOME desktop. I do enable the sound server in GNOME desktop. When it starts up, I can hear the beep and it is not a hardware problem. Would somebody help me? Regards, kwy -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Low latency sparc64 kernels ?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm experiencing a weird behaviour of the kernel and since I'm new to Linux I'm not able to understand what happend. I'm running Debian unstable on an Ultra 5 workstation. I've been using a 2.4.30 kernel until last week but because of the lack of responsiveness I decided to compile a low-latency patched kernel (Andrew Morton's) so as to benefit from a kinda 2.6-like preemption. I succeed in booting the custom 2.4.29 patched kernel I've compiled but a weird behaviour can be observed. Although the responsiveness seems to have been strongly increased (user interface), the system is rather slow. Especially when high loads occur. For instance, when I start OpenOffice: the CPU load used to be at the highest level (over 95%) with the former kernel and it took only several seconds (about 30 sec) to launch the app. Now it takes about 2 minutes and the CPU load is oscillating between 50% and 95% during the process. I googlized and found that there used to be problems when running a low latency kernel with reiserfs partitions (troughtput drop) but I can't find if it's currently still an issue. I would like to know if anybody has experienced the same problem and if there is a technical explanation (concerning the way the schedulding is handled ?) since the logs don't show anything unusual.
