Re: Netboot E250 -- tftp problem
Hero_xbd!.RRR napsal(a): Hi, everybody! I am trying to install a debian-sparc system on an old Enterprise 250(E250) in our lab. The CD-ROM on E250 is broken, so I need to do netboot and installation. The problem is when netboot, there are problem with tftp downloading. What I have done: 1. Setup a netboot server(Debian Sid i386), with rarpd and tftpd-hpa. 1.1. Edit /etc/ether and start rarpd. 1.2. Start tftpd-hpa(standalone, without inetd) with "-l -s /tftpboot -r blksize" option(edited in /etc/default/tftpd-hpa). 1.3. Getting a file from tftp server at another workstation works. 2. Turn on E250(in the same LAN as netboot server), Press Stop-A to get the OPENBOOT prompt, issue"boot net", it reads that: Boot device:/[EMAIL PROTECTED],4000/[EMAIL PROTECTED],1 File and Args: Time out waiting for ARP/RARP packet 4200 Data Access Error and throw me to the "ok" prompt again. 3.1 To solve the problem, I did "net-watch-all" in E250's OPENBOOT prompt, it returned no error. 3.2 I used Wireshark(aka. ethereal) to sniffer network packets, It shows that E250 has issued a RARP query, and netboot server has respond one then E250 has got an IP address(But when I ping from netboot server to E250, it gives no response). Then E250 has queried an image file named according to its newly received IP address(hexadecimal, I can also see in tftp's log this request), but when netboot server respond with the tftp packet, wireshark shows the udp packet encapsuring tftp data has "udp checksum error" 4. The hardware of netboot server is: CPU: Intel Cereron 1.7 Ghz Chipset: Intel i845G NIC: Realtek 8139 I don't know what to do now, I have tried everything I know and everything I can find on the net, but still stack with this problem. Please give me some suggestions. Thanks in advance! I don't know if my advice help you, but I use netboot on E250 and E450 and Ultra 20 and Ultra 5 many times without problem. But first thing that I do is upgrading OPB to latest version and switch to DHCP :-) I download OPB firmware from sunsolve put it on tftp server and boot it to upgrade OPB it works great and I use it. Re: Messy screen with ATI Mach64 on UltraIIi
Hernest napsal(a): Hi, I am trying to upgrade an UltraIIi from an old Aurora Linux (kernel 2.4.20) to Debian Etch (2.6.18), but I cannot get a workable framebuffer using the PCI video card on the system (an ATI Mach64 GT, see logs below). I am booting with the Debian netinst CD, but at all resolutions I tried, I always get a black verical stripe in the middle of the screen and sometimes the right half of the screen remains black. The thing is barely usable as I cannot see most of the comman line. With 2.4.20 everything is OK. If I disable the framebuffer (with video=atyfb:off fb boot option) the screen does not get messy, but the Debian menu is unusable, so I have to find a way to make the fb to work. I have not overwritten anything so far, so I could compare the video timings under 2.4.20 (when the screen is OK) and under 2.6.18 (when I get the mess). Incredibly they are exactly the same. Any idea to have a decent fb like it used to be in 2.4.20? Hi, I start testing daily build of netboot install and want economize usage of my Internet line but installation doesn't work. I mean that problem is in installation script that use wget and not apt ( because apt is not still installed). My result is that apt-cacher or apt-proxy is not usable for installation and I must use some mirror tool. Am I right ? Re: poweroff jumps to OBP instead of powering off
Daniel J. Priem napsal(a): Hi, if i type poweroff on the console, the systems shutdown and then jumps into the OPB instead of powering off. It's Netra t1 105. this happens with recent kernels in etch. I think its related to [1] if (auxio_power_register && !serial_console) in arch/sparc/kernel/process.c if (!serial_console) in arch/sparc64/kernel/power.c. Any hints? Is there already a sysctl option from kernel.org implemented? Or should we patch the kernel in debian? Any comments? Regards Daniel [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2004/03/msg00134.html I have oposite problem my E450 poweroff but not jumps to OBP as I want. I edit /etc/defaults/halt and now it woks as I want. Re: sparc32 etch status
Robert Reif napsal(a): I'm trying to install etch on all my sun4m machines. My first attempt using a netinst CD didn't work because of the esp CD problem. Installing stable and then upgrading didn't work because I couldn't configure apt because of gpg errors. I set up an LX running woody to netboot from and was able to get an ss20 working without problems. However I was unable to get a ss670mp and an ss5 working. The ss670mp wasn't able to download from the internet. I tried the onboard le, an sbus le and an sbus hme with the same results. It just couldn't connect to a server. The ss5 would connect to the server but would hang when probing the esp. I could try installing the driver manually like on stable but that wasn't necessary on the ss20. I'm trying to install on an LX and it connects to the server and probes the drive successfully but requires a low memory install. I also have an ss10 and a Classic X to try. I'm willing to test software or give more details if it would help. I have SS5 and install stable over netboot without problem with esp. I have only small problem with partitioning disk because auto mode does'nt work and with net install I cannot spawn shell to correct problem. Re: [sun]install
Eric Rapilly napsal(a): hello, all of you. I got through the net an image to install the debian by the net. I'm new on debian and new on sun systems , but I'm rather old. Thus, I need help to either , go into the bios and tell to the machine to boot on the CD where is this image, or mount the cdrom and execute the shell. Thanks !! You can boot machine over net this is way that I prefer. To OK prompt type boot net prepare RARP and tftp server and download image from ftp://ftp.debian.cz/pub/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-sparc/current/images/sparc64/netboot/2.6/boot.img If you have Sparc64. So is testing kernels before or just after they are uploaded and maybe checking that X.Org runs correctly. Yes testig kernel is my hobby. Now I compile on all machines latest kernels to see if works OK. Now > 2.6.18 don't work on e450 :-( Note that testing becomes an awful lot more useful if you can also invest some time in tracing any issues that you might discover. At the moment testing the daily builds [1] of the installer would be very useful. Please file an installation report [1] for each type of machine. Yes I can do this but I prefer install over net. Because this image is small and thi machines are conected to the net over 512Kb line.
