We have recieved the following bug report in the kde team. As we
kind of are out of sparc computers we are seeking help. You need:
a debian sparc running recent unsntable and a attached monitor.
Try to install kdm and log in. Report back if it works or not.

  i have a similar problem, with gdm not working on sparc running
  current unstable debian. similarly with Scott, after i've upgraded a
  bunch of packages, the X server did not start any more: gdm was
  starting, but X server flashes and immediately stops, leaving only
  gdm running.

Could you guys please check if these issues are related to #432256?

I've rebuilt xorg with the patch suggested there and I can't reproduce
the bugs you reported: both kdm and gdm are woking properly on my system.

As building xorg is quite time consuming, you may want to get the
packages I've built for myself from here:

So, the problem is reproducible on Blade 100/150 with a single (ati)

   int i;
   struct eth1394_priv *priv = netdev_priv(dev);
   struct hpsb_host *host = priv-host;
  -u64 guid = *((u64*)(host-csr.rom-bus_info_data[3]));
  +u64 guid = get_unaligned((host-csr.rom-bus_info_data[3]));
   u16 maxpayload = 1  (host-csr.max_rec + 1);
   int max_speed = IEEE1394_SPEED_MAX;

Actually upstream fixes other unaligned accesses in that very file.

Please apply the complete backport of upstream changes:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=412749;msg=5;filename=eth1394-unaligned.patch;att=1

Thanks!

Re: Pending sparc patches

  I'd appreciate if people with affected hardware would build the
  kernels with these patches included and report any problems or
  regressions. Let me know if some other essential bugfix is missing.

I've tested a kernel image built with a standard Debian config, some

Problems on my Sunblade 2000, the workaround to boot correctly is
passing video=atyfb:off to the kernel.

Here's a diff between two dmesgs (without and with atyfb:off):

Re: Blade 1000 - no hard disks detected

2007-03-03 Thread Emanuele Rocca
Hello Thomas,

* Thomas Amm [EMAIL PROTECTED], [2007-03-03 12:04 +0100]:
 I was trying to install Etch on my Sun Blade 1000 via netboot. Unlike the
 install, I tried about a year ago, the install menu was displayed fine and
 keyboard and network recognition were fast and correct - unfortunately no
 hard disks were detected. I also had no luck in trying to manually load
 the right driver.

That's because the installer is now using the qla2xxx module for the
Blade's controller, and that module doesn't work without a binary
firmware.

What you need to do is just switching to a console (alt+f2), wget the
qlogic firmware, install it, and re-load the qla2xxx module.

wget
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-qlogic_0.3_all.deb
udpkg -i firmware-qlogic_0.3_all.deb

modprobe -r qla2xxx
modprobe qla2xxx

ema

Re: 2.6.20 unaligned accesses

2007-02-26 Thread Emanuele Rocca
* David Miller [EMAIL PROTECTED], [2007-02-26 15:16 -0800]:
  From: Emanuele Rocca [EMAIL PROTECTED]

   On a Sun Blade 2000 I got this one every time I load eth1394:
   Kernel unaligned access at TPC[101880c8] ether1394_reset_priv+0x2c/0xb8
 [eth1394]

   I got rid of the message with the following patch:

  That is a different bug, and the current 2.6.x tree already has
  that fix applied so you shouldn't need to apply that patch to
  the vanilla tree.

Ah, nice. linux-source 2.6.18.dfsg.1-11 (Debian unstable) is affected by
the bug, so maybe we could add the patch?

Thanks.

   going through the whole installation just to realize that the machine
   won't boot, err, sucks.

  Please file a BR against silo-installer for that. A patch would be great
  too ;-)

Actually it's been already reported (and closed): #286265.

I'll try another installation, it seems that the check didn't work here.

Thanks,
