Re: No floppy drive in Debian-Sparc ???

2003-12-29 Thread Igor TAmara
It's for the SunBlade 100, you can see more about this on the list
archives. It's not linux developers fault, it's Sun's fault.

Greg I saw last nite while surfing the net on Debian and Linux on sparc that
Greg someone mentioned that installing Debian on a Sparc leaves the floppy
drive
Greg unusable. I know this is true in OpenBSD-sparc, is this true of
Greg Debian-sparc and in general of linux on sparcs ? I am using a SunBlade
100
Greg if that makes a difference.

Re: Memory issues E450

2003-06-03 Thread Igor TAmara
Hi, I'm having problems with an Enterprise 450, it shows the same error
discussed on this thread:

May 20 15:07:07 sirio kernel: CPU[1]: Correctable ECC Error AFSR[18810]
AFAR[0f551f50] UDBL[dd] UDBH[1c8]
May 20 15:07:07 sirio kernel: CPU[1]: UDBH Syndrome[3] Memory Module 190x

My kernel info
Linux sirio 2.4.18 #2 SMP Thu Dec 12 10:15:11 COT 2002 sparc64 unknown

I ran test-all from the obp, but wasn't able to run test /memory from
there.

The machine shows this message, but usually doesn't freezes.

Which other test would I run in order to get a clue?

Thanks in advance

Martin I don't know if there is a memtest for sparc, but the Sun hardware
monitors
Martin its memory all the time.
Martin IIRC test /memory from OpenBoot should do the trick.

Re: Need help with XFree86 on an Ultra 5

2002-11-25 Thread Igor TAmara
Hi, I'm using the default 2.4.18 with 4.x you can try this config file
http://ingenieria.sanmartin.edu.co//~itamara/debian/sparc/XF86Config-4

maybe running dpkg-reconfigure and choosing fb and this file can be
done.

Good Luck

Re: Stability of Ultra-10 (440Mhz Ultrasparc-IIi, 256M of ram, 9G disk)

2002-11-07 Thread Igor TAmara
Hi, I have an U10 300Mhz 128 MB, with apache,zope, mailman,exim, postgresql and
acting also as my dektop. The only thing I have to have is patience with
the X. I forgot, sometimes I have to burn CDs there also. I think it's
a kind of magic being able to have all those things, couldn't be done
those things without people that help in this list :)

It's been working a year, and the only problem I've had were problems
related to mailman due to a crash of a server that had problems and sent
a lot of email to my machine.

I used RedHat, but Debian definitely beated it.

32 Vs. 64 bits

2002-10-07 Thread Igor TAmara
Hi everyone, It's just that I want to know where can I find
documentation related to 64 bits on sparc and the applications running
on 32 bits, I've heard some gossipes saying that Debian builds
applications under 32 bits, what could be the gain in the 64 bits, would
it be possible to build on 64 bits, what type of applications would be
benefit from the 64 bits?

Someone in the place I work, says that Solaris uses the 64 bit support
but I've seen some info on ultralinux.org about some benchmarks on low
level opperations on the kernel that show linux is faster than Solaris.
Are there any other distribution on sparc architecture building
eveything on 64 bits?

Thanx in advance, I used RedHat before (A year or more ago), but Debian
definitively is the one.

You can try the kernel-image-2.4.18, I was using using
kernel-image-2.2.20 and the problem was the same. When you install it,
it just works.

Re: Creator 3D on Ultra10 447z monitor

2002-08-24 Thread Igor TAmara
Hi, I installed kernel 2.4.18 and it worked, a lot of thanks. On an
Ultra10 in order to Creator 3D to work you need to install in woody
kernel-image-2.4.18 , use sunffb and avoid dri. That's it.

Again thanks.

debian-sparc I'm running kernel 2.2.20-sun4u , I'll try 2.4.18-sun4u , to see
if it
debian-sparc works, I saw that Eduardo Mendes was running this kernel.
debian-sparc
debian-sparc I'll tell you about that.
debian-sparc
debian-sparc Thanx.
